EquallyJust··on Meta enables ADB on deprecated Portal devices [video]
For what it's worth, I just fired up my two portal gen 2 in the closet, updated them and the adb setting just worked. The adb UI is a little jank and doesn't appear to enable but it does actually work. Got them set up as Home Assistant dashboards

I'm a Meta employee so who knows if I'm in some magic gatekeeper but ADB definitely didn't work on these even as an employee before

EquallyJust··on Running Tesla Model 3's computer on my desk using parts from crashed cars
It's a mixed bag. This only applies to the infotainment system and not the autopilot computer.

They've also revoked certificates from researchers personal cars in the past

EquallyJust··on Lead contamination in hunted meat
Seems like there's plenty of non-lead bullet options though they're a bit more expensive.

Hashed hierarchical timing wheels is a cool very specialized data structure to make this efficient. The paper claims it's O(1) to start, stop and maintain timers which is much more efficient than O(log n).

Given there's n timers and O(1) operations I'm not sure where the O(n log n) fits in here. Possible in the minimum number of ticks?

have you tried torchscript w/ the C++ interface?
EquallyJust··on Firefox for Mobile now supports NoScript, PrivacyBadger, HTTPS Everywhere
It goes Stable -> Beta -> Nightly in terms of closeness to trunk. I believe Preview == Beta and Preview Nightly == Nightly now. The Preview apps are going away since the new interface is releasing soon
EquallyJust··on Wi-Fi over Coax
Some automated train systems already do this for control such as some of the Vancouver SkyTrain lines.

From the SelTrac wikipedia page:

"in newer versions of SelTrac, the control signal is transmitted inside the running rails at radio frequency using IEEE 802.11 (WiFi) access points. "

EquallyJust··on Empress trees absorb about 103 tons of carbon a year per acre
Don't know too much about this but I can speculate.

Bamboo is hollow so probably doesn't capture as much carbon compared to a solid tree. You can also use the wood from trees in a lot more places than bamboo.

Given his support for The Long Now and Blue Origin it doesn't surprise me much.

EquallyJust··on Facebook Expects to Be Fined Up to $5B by FTC Over Privacy Issues
5% of FB revenue (55B) is $2.75B which is less than the proposed FTC fine of 5B.

Making it be 5% of profit and not revenue would make it hurt even less.

EquallyJust··on What Data Does Facebook Collect When I’m Not Using Facebook, and Why?
You can opt out of FB ads without having an account via http://optout.aboutads.info.

Not sure why their site only sometimes shows this link :/.

EquallyJust··on Zuckerberg denies knowledge of Facebook shadow profiles
Both Google Analytics and Facebook's interest based ads/"shadow" profiles work similarly.

You can opt out of Google's interest based ads via https://adssettings.google.com and Facebook's interest based ads via https://www.facebook.com/ads/settings without having to have an account with either.

I don't believe either "shadow" profiles are every associated with an account or personal details even when you make an account on the associated service.

You can opt out of interest based ads/shadow profiles without having to be a Facebook user by visiting https://www.facebook.com/ads/settings.

It's just not very well publicized.
