Agree to that. I'm not a programmer, I can't design and write big applications, but I can do some hacking on existing code, I can write my own small scripts etc.

I understand that I don't have full expertise and I always listen to our devs, however it really helps me when I understand what they are talking about and I listen to them.

Also since I can quickly make some stuff from code I can google on the web, I'm much more productive than the average Joe when I got some repetitive task: make some excel function to deal with ugly data parsing, automate some data entry with auto-it or python+selenium, make some basic sql queries when I need a quick report...

On the other hand half of the people I work with can't write a simple vlookup formula or getting confused when it doesn't match a text to number, despite having excel in their CV.

When a person knows how computer magic works is only a benefit in my opinion and would be a strong bonus point for a job candidate.

I don't get actual spam in gmail, but I get occasional bounced messages when spammers try to send email with my address in from field. Even google groups would bounce back the email I never sent. I even got spf/dkim for domain, yet they still inform me they couldn't deliver a message I never sent.

Sure there is, but you can easily disable it per page/site if you notice something doesnt work.

Also windows is not perfect either, my old scanner doesn't have windows 7 drivers and will never have it seems. It works just fine in XP and Linux.

Sometimes things break, they even break in software that cost shitloads of money too. Six month old Oracle EBS SR with localization(!) problem - not critical, but surely half a year is enough to swap two strings. Sometimes it doesn't work well with some server vendor too (I don't know all details about this one).

Don't blame canonical for all the software in the distro, all they really do is adding eye candy and try to make it nicer, but they can't fix everything.

I find it silly when people try to force other people to migrate to Linux - show them around, tell about ups and downs and let them decide if they want to try it.

I use linux not because it open source, but because it does most of the stuff I need better. My parents use windows PC, because they can just install that thing which came with new printer and it works without calling me, despite I could probably make it work in linux just as easy since I know how to.

And for God's sake, don't install linux if you play games most of the time, but you read linux is better on the interwebz. Stop hammering nails with a microscope already!

I heard about similar tests with 2 cars, one following another and they were driving around different countries - they had issues in Russia as someone would occasionally slip in between them breaking the link.

Blizz is doing it right. Statement that WoW players using 3rd party programs are only suspended are complete bullshit - they ban you right away even for unattended fishing with autoit script. Besides there is a mode without achivements - you can play play as guest without connecting to bnet and without achivements if you wish to cheat.
