Elhana··on 71 TiB DIY NAS Based on ZFS on Linux
I have a similar pack of raw images, which I never got to clean up since I got spare storage space and it is not even that big - looking at those new Panasonic GH4 cameras that can shoot raw video with some crazy bitrate, you will need loads of storage.

What happens if you post a link to some endless scrolling website?
Elhana··on Russia enacts 'draconian' law for bloggers and online media
Torture is not permitted under international law last time I checked, but US doesn't care and neither does EU.

And I love the argument that unless you can prove Israel is deliberately targeting Palestinians, they are innocent - that is extremely hard to prove, but very easy for Israel to tell that they "had intelligence". Obviously it is much easier to just blow up a building with a rocket if you've seen Hamas fighter entering it and noone seems to care if there are many civilians inside.

I don't know if i'm getting downvoted because I haven't posted the source for the info or something else, but here is the link to an interview: http://lenta.ru/articles/2014/07/22/rkn/

You'll have to google translate it, which is the reason I haven't included it to begin with.

I don't see EU implementing any sanctions against US for Guantanamo or Israel for slaughtering Palestinians. If you punish one country for a crime - be consistent and do it for all of them.

Iran can't have peaceful nuclear tech, but Israel can have their Nukes.

Kosovo is a "special case" allowed by EU, but other parties can't do the same. Even enthnic cleansing argument doesn't cut it - look at Ukraine, same thing pretty much, but KFOR is good, and DNR/LNR are terrorists.

Russian government already explained that it will not be enforced if you just post kitten pics and have over 3000 subscribers.

Elhana··on Microsoft fights U.S. warrant for customer e-mails held in overseas server
The issue here is what happens when China does the same and ask Microsoft to hand over data stored in US for US customer? I bet US Gov will be furious. What if every country starts doing this?

Elhana··on Who Needs Git When You Got ZFS? (2013)
If metadata is corrupted to a point where pool can't be imported, you probably won't save much from it and shouldve had a backup anyway.

You might want to recover at least some files from a badly damaged FS if it is your home server with a baby photos, but would you really do that, if it was accounting of your company and not restore from a backup instead?

Example of non-ecc memory corruption and effect: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.os.illumos.zfs/1779
Elhana··on HFS+ Bit Rot
Silent corruption can hit NTFS just as well. The only protection is to have a good hardware with ECC RAM, raid with redundancy and a FS that checks data on every read like zfs,btrfs,ReFS,... and backups.
Elhana··on The ticking time-bomb at the bottom of the Baltic Sea
There is no chance nuclear bomb on the sea bed would blow up suddenly. Radioactive materials would leak into the sea, but pollution will be much less than radioactive water from Fukushima. Not saying that it is not bad, but not as bad as it sounds.
Elhana··on Russian government threatens to block CloudFlare
Remind me, those photos of Guardian destroying Snowden files all over the news sites are clearly because Russians forced them to? Or was it UK government?
Elhana··on Russian government threatens to block CloudFlare
It is a classic case of an economically failing superpower trying to stay afloat with skyrocketing debt, shifting attention from it's internal problems and feeding on wars in other countries. US keep supporting terrorists in Syria and did so in all other uprisings they fueled. None of them ended well for any of the countries involved so far - Libya, Iraq, Syria.
Elhana··on Russian government threatens to block CloudFlare
For a good reason. If Snowden published US secrets soemwhere, how fast do you think it will be taken down by cloudflare. wikileaks never had a problem with hosting either it seems, right?
Elhana··on 2-Year-Olds Convert Binary To Hexadecimals In Game Experiment
Bugs have a hex number of them, you need to match it with a binary representation with rockets.. I'm still slower than that kid.
Elhana··on Russia approves use of military in Ukraine
If jews are happy with neo-nazis in Ukraine, why they are asking Netanyahu to send forces to protect them? http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/177920
Elhana··on Russia approves use of military in Ukraine
US has a long tradition of "protecting" as well. They were protecting Yugoslavia, then protected Iraq, Afganistan, Libya.. recently Syria. They are also looking to protect Iran and Ukraine now. Most of it without UN resolution, with the exception of Libya, where they interpreted "no fly zone" resolution as "just bomb everything that moves" (because Gaddafi tanks could fly I guess).

Elhana··on Ubuntu desktop moving application menus back into application windows
How can I move the menu bar under window title? I actually like to move windows by the title bar and not move my mouse over the whole screen to the global menu.

Give people choice: People who like it old way are still happy and people who like new stuff will just switch.

Make a dialog at the start of the session when you release new features, asking if you'd like to enable new features or keep your old settings for existing users. Install new features on by default. Everyone happy, no complaints.

Then collect stats after some time and see what is actually getting used and if 95% is in favor of some option - remove the old feature.

This could also be a nice incentive to provide stats to developers - your opinion gets counted.

Elhana··on NBC Story about Hacking at Sochi is 100% Fraudulent
Suppose one day you notice your neighbor beating a crap out of his kids with a baseball bat, should you ignore boundaries of his property (house) and stop him in order to defend his kids? Although it becomes common this days people would just pull out their phones and start shooting a video for youtube instead.. maybe you are one of those.
Elhana··on What should we expect from a modern init system?
If Lennart Poettering were building a bicycle, it would have multiple seats, 4 wheels, engine, conditioner, bar, sat tv, console and small pool on it. You would be able to remove most of it tho... maybe. If you try to remove the engine, it would complain that modern all bicycles are broken without engines, but you can do it at your own risk.
