Ecalpal··on Did Human Evolution Include a Semi-Aquatic Phase?
TL; DR: No.
Ecalpal··on To save the US economy, policymakers need to understand small business 101
There's only one thing to understand about SMBs: They're woefully inefficient. Efficiency comes with scale (which is enabled by automation). This is what turns previously artisan projects (e.g. clothes) into mass-produced items that can be sold cheaply and help improve living standards. SMBs run counter to this: Most of them don't want to grow and most are poorly run. (The ones that are well-run and are founded on interesting concepts have a habit of growing out of the SMB category.) What's left is your local drycleaner, restaurant, independent greengrocer; a lot of them industries that automation hasn't been able to help scale. Yet.
Ecalpal··on Are machine-learning packages like genomes?
Thank you for articulating my point better than I could myself about the 'cascade of dependencies'.

It seems to me that these platforms/packages are essentially trying to build something almost-as-complex as a genome from scratch, and that trying to avoid those cascades is paramount. However, is this possible in practise, and if so, what would help streamline the process?

Would a generalisable package solution help with this, and what's limiting development of such a solution? Is it because we don't know what such a solution should/ought to look like?
