Eavolution··on Visa and Mastercard are getting overwhelmed by gamer fury over censorship
Why would it be on the payment processor at all to determine if something is legal or not? I think that is a massive issue on it's own as I don't want Visa/MC deciding whether they think what I'm doing with my money is legal, that's for a legal system to do, not a private company.
Eavolution··on Debian switches to 64-bit time for everything
There is already a hard limit, the amount of memory before the OOM killer is triggered.
Eavolution··on When we get Komooted
Such as what? I found it a very fair deal, you can have functionality for your area for free, which will likely be good enough for 70%+ of people, but if you want larger regions you have to pay. It seems to me a totally fair and transparent pricing structure, without resorting to filling the app with ads.

The people who need the paid portion of the app are also likely enthusiasts, and in that light the pricing seems fair too.

Eavolution··on Electrify completes majority investment in Veritasium
I do wonder what will become of the channels they invest in, there seems to be a lot of high quality ones. For example they invested in the Mentour Pilot channel, and I wouldn't say the quality has dipped since, if anything it seems like they have access to more money but the quality and feel of the videos is very similar, hopefully it stays this way.
Eavolution··on Graphene OS: a security-enhanced Android build
About the OEM, are you working on having devices ship with GrapheneOS, or devices be GOS compatible (i.e. same as the Pixels)? If you're thinking of devices shipping with it, would this fix the issue of Play Integrity/SafetyNet failing? That's the main reason I am running the android on my phone, as my banks don't work with Play Integrity failing and I have to use the app for 3DS. The ability to run GOS without this issue would be huge.
Eavolution··on When Is WebAssembly Going to Get DOM Support?
i18n: internationalisation, a11y: accessibility
Eavolution··on Britain is lowering the voting age to 16. It's getting a mixed reaction
On the other hand take something like Brexit, that went into effect well after the referendum on it. There are a significant amount of people who would have opposed/supported it who were 18 when it went into effect but not when it was voted on.
Eavolution··on Supreme Court's ruling practically wipes out free speech for sex writing online
Who defines an artistic work? If I produce a porn film, why isn't that my artistic commentary on sex? Laws cant be this subjective because subjectivity implies subjectivity in ruling which is objectively awful.
Eavolution··on Supreme Court's ruling practically wipes out free speech for sex writing online
Mine said the party was taking it very seriously and it's clearly something that is important to me. I trust them to do exactly nothing.
Eavolution··on Supreme Court's ruling practically wipes out free speech for sex writing online
And if I provide it how do they prove they aren't storing it other than their word, which is untrustable for many reasons?
Eavolution··on Supreme Court's ruling practically wipes out free speech for sex writing online
I am never providing my ID to anyone who can store it indefinitely. I am an adult and have no problem showing it in a shop if required as it isn't stored. Unless it can be proven it wont be stored (i.e. the bytes are never sent from my laptop) I will not provide it.
Eavolution··on Heart attacks aren't as fatal as they used to be
AED: Automatic External Defibrillator, a defibrillator that doesn't need a trained operator

Aspirin: a blood thinner and painkiller

Blood thinners: given to people at risk of a heart attack to thin the blood and reduce the chance of blood flow being obstructed

Eavolution··on Effectiveness of trees in reducing temperature, outdoor heat exposure in Vegas
This is relevant though towards the argument that Vegas isn't typical in it's water consumption and trees may well have a much more detrimental effect than in other places.
Eavolution··on ICE test train reaches speeds of up to 405.0 km/h
To be fair there is a massive difference between separated bike lanes, which do achieve this, and just a painted line on the ground so the government could say they put a bike line in. Significant amounts in a lot of places are the latter.
Eavolution··on The $25k car is going extinct?
To be fair that's with 20 years of inflation (roughly 1.55x since 2004, €18,600 today), and that car today would have 90+bhp. I'm ignoring things like head unit/ac because they're things you'd probably rather not have and not pay for by the sounds of it.
Eavolution··on Microsoft extends free Windows 10 security updates into 2026
I'm assuming they're talking about spectre/meltdown which have mitigations slowing down performance, but the hardware is vulnerable without those mitigations
Eavolution··on The first non-opoid painkiller
Paracetamol can be referred to as an antipyretic (fever reducing drug), and it's widely used for that in the same way ibuprofen is used as an anti inflammatory.
Eavolution··on Balatro for the Nintendo E-Reader
Balatro uses 64 bit floats for numbers. This does matter as the game effectively has a hard ending at NaN when you overflow the floating point max. This will occur at a significantly lower value if you switched to 32 bit floats, therefore making the highest possible ante lower.
Eavolution··on U.S. bombs Iranian nuclear sites
I thought part of Trump's campaign was that he'd distance the US from foreign conflicts and not get involved so much. Is he trying to renege on every single thing he campaigned on?
Eavolution··on YouTube's new anti-adblock measures
Can you download the videos to mp4 or is it some proprietary DRM thing that only plays on YouTube? If not that just sounds like a worse version of yt-dlp
Eavolution··on YouTube's new anti-adblock measures
I could be wrong but I was under the impression that ads paid primarily per click, in which case surely the relevancy is important too?
Eavolution··on Android 16 is here
I was hoping over time the hardware beginning to get more similar would make the hardware more standardised and open like it is on PC allowing easier rom development, but that seems to be a pipe dream.
Eavolution··on Windows 10 spies on your use of System Settings (2021)
Even with games nowadays you'd be surprised with the quality of gaming on Linux. I've got a laptop with a nvidia graphics card running linux, historically a problematic to say the least setup. I've only had one game I needed to tweak the startup settings for (other than forcing the use of proton), everything just kind of works now.

I will put a big disclaimer here that I don't play online games really and some are just fecked due to certain anti cheats.

Eavolution··on Rare black iceberg spotted off Labrador coast could be 100k years old
Can confirm, I've only ever heard a chain of the word "woof" from a newfie.
Eavolution··on Can a corporation be pardoned?
So say someone has a large pension in a managed/general industry fund, and that fund has a significant shareholding of a company, should this person be punished effectively punished if a company they didn't necessarily even know they had shares in did something illegal?
Eavolution··on As a developer, my most important tools are a pen and a notebook
I like it when trying to work things out/design things as I can easily scribble down quick drawings to keep myself right. This is much easier with a pencil and paper than trying to do it on a computer to me.
Eavolution··on Google shows off Android XR smart glasses with in-lens display
I wish we could just ban CCTV cameras in public areas (banned for use by private or government entities), as the privacy tradeoff is immense.
Eavolution··on There was a time when the US government built homes for working-class Americans
I mean there is currently a housing crisis in Ireland, particularly in Dublin.
Eavolution··on I Built My Own Audio Player
I've always had the issue on Android of the cover art/title being unreliable i.e. I change it and it just doesn't change, or it does then randomly changes to a random cover. As far as I could tell this was a bug in Android, did you run into this?
Eavolution··on Why does Debian change software?
I have a Dell Vostro 7620 currently running Arch. Even with the Nvidia graphics card I have run into very few issues (only once did a nvidia driver update did break the system), so I'd say go for it.
