EZ-Cheeze··on Ask HN: Who wants to collaborate? (April 2022)
-start with some rough seed data

-make matches based on our initial hypotheses of data vs action vs outcome

-learn from success/failure of matches

-adjust matching strategy & request more or different data as needed

-search for best predictors by babble and prune [1] with extremely prolific babblers and extremely discerning pruners.

GANs & transformers & hashtables, we'll grow em quickly out of the right SUBSTRATE; I think representation efficacy makes for the biggest performance jumps in machine learning training and inference speed. Constant and well-directed experimentation is key in innovation, let's get all the best people spazzing out constructively on a constant basis

Let a thousand distributed "Bell Labs" type bloom. (If you don't know, Bell Labs is known for many innovations and was ran with a spirit of collaboration, tinkering, and interdisciplinary work. And also it had all the right people in the same spot!)

[1] https://www.lesswrong.com/s/pC6DYFLPMTCbEwH8W "Babble creates a constant stream of coarse material, while Prune cuts these ideas harshly without the slightest hint of remorse."

It wouldn't be just friends, but that's how I phrased it there. I called it "supporters" in these 280 characters:

"Some people just get along. They are compatible. They mesh.

I think it's possible to predict whether any two people will hit it off, and to create groups composed entirely of highly compatible, highly synergistic people.

What will happen when EVERYONE has a THOUSAND SUPPORTERS?"

And it wouldn't just be friends or supporters, either:

"Just as the system can find those who are your mirror reflection by minimizing adjacency distances, so it can find your very antithesis by maximizing them, as well as anything in-between."

That's from this post which explores implementation: https://zeroprecedent.substack.com/p/a-technique-for-generat...

I think after implementation, adoption is inevitable since the value is truly insane, better than anything else online (unless you're antisocial, etc.)

EZ-Cheeze··on Ask HN: Who wants to collaborate? (April 2022)
From my recent post: "The thing that could bring the most change to the world is a system that finds everybody a thousand or more best friends based on psychological proximity and compatibility. Don’t tell me it’s impossible to predict whether two people are likely to get along or not based on a bunch of factors that can be analyzed with various techniques including AI. What would the world look like if every single person had a bunch of people who get them because they are almost exactly like them or are highly compatible although different? Imagine having a huge support group that roots for each cause of yours because it’s also theirs. What could you all do together, pulling in the same direction, inspiring each other and contributing your best? I want all of the existing social networks to create a version of this. Create groups out of thin air. You have the data, so use it for something better than serving ads with efficient precision."

I've been developing ideas on how to match people, but I can't code.

I also want a drawing app that hides all my attempts at a stroke and lets me pick the best one AFTER I'm done generating them: http://zeroprecedent.com/lore/flipmark.html

EZ-Cheeze··on First images from James Webb telescope exceed expectations
If enough of a star's light can be blocked by polarized filters, data transmission can occur when they are switched on and off in a pattern. Maybe with the JWST we'll be able to download many different civilizations' Wikipedias if they're blinking their suns at us.

Triangles have no volume and no diffraction occurs inside them as it does with Platonic solids. The idea is that real-time raytracing will allow complex variations and interactions of "Platonic dust particles" and the rays bouncing and refracting between and in them. It would be a more expressive "clay" for the AI to tinker with than triangles - the orientation/color/transparency changes of each solid will be able to elicit more visual effects than doing it with flat triangles.I got banned from Eleuther discord today The One#3740

I think meshes and textures can be replaced by intelligently shifting, raytraced billions of platonic solids

EZ-Cheeze··on The Matrix Resurrections estimated to lose Warner Bros $100M
I think the saying "set and setting" applies to movies as much as it does to psychedelics. I was hyped to watch it, I was nicely toasted, I watched it as soon as it came out, and it did everything right in my book. For starters, it grabbed me from the get-go: the shot of a SWAT operator's foot stepping into a puddle was totally gorgeous. Everything else that happened was interesting as hell - a program being evolved in a simulated environment, an agent realizing he's Morpheus, Jessica Henwick being totally gorgeous and speaking in a soft honey voice. If the first moments of a film charm you, you are much more predisposed to like it.

Other things I loved without getting too specific:

+bullet time rewind +Trinity's fresh eyes after nearly dying +the ballet of the helicopters +Sati +Sati's wink +the design of the Anomaleum +holding hands in the sky +army in a coffee shop +the music when the dojo gets initiated +the view from the prison cell +bathroom stall encounter of grandeur and hilarity!

I'm sure I'm missing twice as much amazing things but these are just off the top of my head.

EZ-Cheeze··on Tips for making writing more fun
My biggest tip (based on my own experience): if you want to write something, record yourself speaking, then transcribe and edit only if necessary. The brain effortlessly produces sentence after sentence that flow pretty well when it's in verbal mode. The words just come to you with little to no reaching, unlike when writing and trying to think of the best way to put something.

That's hilarious and cool. You got a list of desirable brands? Off the top of my head I can only think of Enron, Lehman Brothers and Theranos.

EZ-Cheeze··on Tldraw – a tiny little drawing app
My dream drawing app would let you draw a stroke multiple times and then pick out your best attempt. No need to undo all the bad ones to try again. It separates the generation and the judgment.

EZ-Cheeze··on Ask HN: Would you build a new search engine today?
I want a search engine for people who think like me and want the same things I do. There must be at least thousands of them and we'd be unstoppable together.
EZ-Cheeze··on Riding the Writing Wave
A newly available way of writing: speak out all your thoughts and transcribe the recording into text. The brain reaches for words in a totally different (and often more effortless) way when you are talking vs. when you are writing. Further, putting a music beat on and trying to keep up with your speech can give you a useful impetus to just get words out.

#9981: Platform that enables a conversation to be had between entities made up of multiple people suggesting and voting for the most interesting, thought-provoking and engaging responses. The resulting conversations may be of a higher quality than ones between single individuals.

#9986: Movie recommendation engine based on subtitle analysis. Comparing mean word and sentence length, words-per-hour mean, dialogue density variation over time, lexical complexity and vocabulary overlap will uncover similarities in the fabric of tone, pacing and subject matter.

#9989: A website where people can define and popularize musical genres by listing a few exemplar songs, describing their perceived shared qualities and linking to samples. Seed songs can be similar in their entirety or just part of duration. Others can then suggest more that fit.

#9990: A random restaurant, where a computer creates random bite-sized combinations from a big list of ingredients. Each time, this will result in a unique new interplay of flavor and texture. Personal scoring will uncover correlations of what goes together or performs comparably

EZ-Cheeze··on Don't create for an imaginary group of people
"Do it for yourself" is great creative advice that I've gradually arrived at on my own. I have been creating something that I have shown to maybe a couple hundred people and none of them connected with it on any meaningful level. To me, it's the best thing ever and I'm obsessed with it, but no one else seems to get it or like it. But somehow I keep the project alive exactly because I really am doing it for myself. Yes, I do hope that others will also grow to love it eventually, but it's not the main motivation. If it were, I would have gone crazy by now.

EZ-Cheeze··on The search for extraterrestrial intelligence moves up a gear
"You know what I should be doing? Okay. Hear me out. You know that there's something called the search for extraterrestrial intelligence? Looking for aliens? I feel like I should be looking for aliens, man! Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha! No, I'm for real man, I wanna like, I wanna like guess the protocols, like, Yo, how would they contact us, man? I already have some ideas.

Okay, I'm gonna explain this real simple. You know polarizing stuff on your camera? When you use a polarizing filter on a camera it lets you, like, see shit, under the reflection and shit, like, but if you twist two polarizing filters against each other, or, like, even a single polarizing filter in front of a screen, because the screen also has polarizing filters in it, it turns completely black at one point, you've seen that? Do you have a polarizing filter? If you had one and put it in front of a computer's LCD screen, if you twist it enough, it turns everything black, it's like the two cancel each other out, the two polarizing filters block light out entirely.

What if we put a huge polarizing filter in front of the sun, and, like, know our sun and this other star's alignment through time, and it doesn't even have to like cover the whole area of the sun, just a big percentage of it, and then start flashing that shit in a pulse, so the very light of the sun, we don't even need to generate the light, it's already being generated behind us, we're going to be doing like fucking smoke signals, man. To all the other suns around us. I MEAN THAT'S CRAZY RIGHT? Hahahahaha!

Ok, ok, Imma bring it down. That's funny though. That's a good idea for SETI, I'm gonna tell them, Yo, we should be looking at everybody's son in like looking for tiny, fucking, but detectable changes. Obviously it's gonna have to be, like, with a telescope like Hubble that's outside Earth's atmosphere. Maybe James Webb's gonna cut it. I don't know. It's good for infrared."
