EA··on Study finds billions of nanoplastics released when microwaving containers
99% of the homes, apartments, and hotel rooms I have been to in the US have them. Most every restaurant has them.
EA··on Missing Titanic sub faced lawsuit over depths it could safely travel to
...for risk adverse leaders in the company who wanted to utilize the system.

This worker likely blew the whistle on the safety assessment of the system.

EA··on Apollo’s Christian Selig explains his fight with Reddit – and why users revolted
Adding "reddit review" to the end of a search query often has resulted in list of informative content (raw input from members of a niche community for a product). Since the blackout some information I want is now behind a walled gardens that I can't access except through cached content on a SERP.
EA··on Apple Vision Pro: Apple’s first spatial computer
When you watch live TV, you watch what one person decides you should be watching.

With eye and head tracking in the headset, you can watch what you want to watch during live events and eventually in interactive motion pictures/motion environments.

EA··on Geoffrey Hinton leaves Google and warns of danger ahead
Regardless of whether it becomes some rogue AI Agent we've read about in sci-fi novels for decades; AI Tech is dangerous because of how powerful it is and how quickly it became so powerful. Oh, and our AI Tech has probably trained on all of those AI novels...
EA··on Every possible Wordle solution visualized
Yes. NBA games are 48 minutes in regulation. No one plays the full 48 minutes, but a lot of players (starters mainly) do play 36 minutes. So, 36 minutes has become a common time period of production time used for analytics in the NBA.
EA··on Kottke.org is 25 years old today
His font 'Silkscreen' was a hit. It was clean, tiny, and free and found all over the web in the early 2000's. I see it from time to time in various places.

EA··on iPhone 14 Pro camera review: A small step, a huge leap
Yes, it is a minor annoyance and actually seems to be counter to Apple's historical product design
EA··on Joe Rogan Interviews Steve Jobs

EA··on Should billboard advertising be banned?
Driving in Ireland was a pleasant experience as there were few signs while driving from coast to coast.
EA··on BirdNET-Pi: Automated, locally run bird sound identification and tracking
I wonder if this would be a way to passively search for calls of the possibly extinct ivory-billed woodpecker; even with a small number of audio recordings in existence.

EA··on Launch HN: Living Carbon (YC W20) – Trees that capture and store more carbon
Kudzu promotes the creation of ozone while suffocating the trees, grasses, and underbrush it dominates. I presume it destroys more carbon-exchanging vegetation than it replaces.
EA··on How to know if you’re addicted
It took me almost 2 years to fully give up sodas and sugary drinks. I grew up on it. I learned a lot about my willpower.
EA··on Sony to buy video game maker Bungie in $3.6B deal
HALO was originally based on Myth. That is when Halo was briefly (conceptually) an RTS. It evolved into a Third Person Shooter, and finally First Person Shooter. After Bungie was acquired by Microsoft, they had a year to make their game, so they made the decision to start over from the beginning and create Halo as a first person shooter.
EA··on Omicron at 100% Prevalence, Colorado
An unvaccinated man with underlying health conditions died in Texas mid December after testing positive for the COVID-19 omicron variant, officials in Houston said, marking what is believed to be the first death linked to the strain in the U.S.

EA··on Omicron at 100% Prevalence, Colorado
The vaccine also reduces the symptoms of the virus and so a carrier of the virus may seem well but actually transfer the virus to someone else as they are less likely to quarantine if they are not tested or showing symptoms.

The vaccine also gives one a sense of protection from infection and so they are more likely to attend mass gatherings. where the virus can be transferred.

EA··on Apple announces first states to adopt driver’s licenses and IDs in Apple Wallet
I would guess that a physical ID makes the states and the economy a lot of money. It cost almost $40 to renew a license here in Alabama and it can be done in less than 15 minutes. It is a token that allows third parties to verify the ID of someone with pretty good accuracy.
EA··on US has recovered ransom payment made after pipeline hack

EA··on FBI Confirms Report of UFO over New Mexico
More like the FBI is aware that American Airlines has confirmed that one of their pilots made a voice report of something he could not identify.
EA··on Tesla to produce $25K car as early as 2022
It’s a joke. “Buy the rumor — sell the news” is an old saying about investing in stocks.

Tesla’s stock has been skyrocketing, so why sell at all?

EA··on Why do incompetent managers get promoted?
In my experience, incompetent managers often don't realize they are incompetent. They are confident and exhibit traits that do not harm others.

Competent mangers often are aware of their flaws and capability gaps. They work too much and are often overly critical of themselves and their projects.

EA··on “This is why I use ad blockers and a pi-hole server”
Regarding #3: you could run PiVPN on your PiHole device and remote into the PiHole.

EA··on The 100 Year Starship
What if Country X starts building a starship in, say, 40 years and it works and off they go.

Then Country Y invests in new technology and starts building their new ship in, say, 100 years.

It's possible and likely that Country Y's starship is more capable and faster than Country X's ship as they would have waited for and capitalized on scientific breakthroughs that make interstellar travel better.

EA··on 88% of Americans use a second screen while watching TV
Because our friends aren’t on TV.

Just wait until AI puts likenesses of ourselves and our social circles into the stories.

EA··on Browser-based climate change simulation

EA··on Login.gov neutered the security of 2FA
I believe the security key option allows you to use Authy, Google Auth, and other apps.

And 2FA with SMS is much more secure than no 2FA at all.

EA··on Video piracy was hardly a crime in 1982
In the 80's, rural America was copying cassettes for video and music at home. You could go to flea markets and buy copied products but many homes had tech to record/duplicate.

And then it got wild with cheap media for CD-ROM and DVD duplication just as Napster and other services along with the proliferation of internet connectivity.

In elementary school we made and traded mix tapes of songs from the radio. We rarely traded duped video cassettes.
