Drakim··on Vivaldi for Android now supports some Chrome extensions
> This way, Manifest V3 might blow up in Google's face

I'm sure Google will have a new important security announcement at that point. All of these forked browsers can no longer have the widevine certification unless they conform to certain ad-friendly changes.

Drakim··on Radical Study Suggests Life on Earth Arose Twice
Hash competition from life might cause them to go extinct, and even if it happens again it just gets out-competed to extinction fast.
Drakim··on Harness engineering for self-improvement
If we don't create the Torment Nexus first, somebody else who is much less responsible is gonna create the Torment Nexus before us. It's outright irresponsible to not take the lead, we might have to even give up on all safety concerns to make sure we make it to Torment Nexus IPO first.
Drakim··on Toot.community is shutting down
How about this: Duplicates of the old posts are created on a new host using some import/export mechanic, but they also contain a cryptographic signature proving ownership of the old posts (utilizing some secret only the original poster would have access to).

When a reference to a post becomes invalid because it's underlying host is gone, the other host holding those references tries to find new duplicate posts with the correct signature, and if it finds them, updates the broken old references to point to these new duplicates. If it doesn't find any duplicates with a matching signature, it leaves the references broken and has some cooldown before it tries to fix them again.

Drakim··on Show HN: Homegames. An open-source game platform I've been making for 8 years
I love the concept of multiplayer-first without needing intricate networking knowledge. I'm actually working on a similar system for old retro games.

However, the demo games you have come across as too trivial and trashy to really show off what your system is capable of. I highly recommend putting a lot of effort into making something that shines there.

Drakim··on LLMs are eroding my software engineering career and I don't know what to do
Do you object against calling people "farmers" because their way of operating is not the same as how farmers operated 500 years ago?
Drakim··on LLMs are eroding my software engineering career and I don't know what to do
Doesn't that support the point?

Computers came in and "took" the job of calculating numbers (I assume usually budgets and finances), but instead of every layman just using a computer to organize their company's finances, they still hire a professional to use the computer to organize the company's finances. The role shifted, but it wasn't eliminated.

Drakim··on Do agents.md files help coding agents?
You are absolutely right, thank you for pushing back. Upon further examination, I've confirmed that the referenced paper says no.

Drakim··on Google will pay SpaceX $920M per month for compute
There are asteroids with concentrations of precious metals more valuable than earth's entire economy. Why don't we just send up spaceships to mine them and send the haul back to earth? What country would say no to free money?

After all, it's just an engineering challenge, not impossible.

Drakim··on Uber caps employee AI spending after blowing through budget in four months
You aren't allowed to use the same super cheap subscriptions if your company is big enough.
Drakim··on Danish Pension Blacklists SpaceX over 'Catastrophic Governance'
You could also transfer the heat to tungsten rods and drop them on rivaling earth-bound data centers.
Drakim··on The AI bubble isn't like the internet bubble
I have a question, is the short lifespan of GPUs because they get worn out and are destroyed, or because they get outdated by the ever expanding demands of the AI bubble?

Because if it's the later, I would assume that growth would not continue at the same rate after the bubble bursts?

Drakim··on Why is Vivado 2026.1 dropping Linux support for free tier?
I agree with your point (that AMD does a lot more harm than what they are indignant about) but not the way you go there. If emotional abusive behavior is not "physical harm" because it's just emotions, then financial abusive behavior is not "physical harm" either because it's just numbers. When you consider what incredible harm being emotionally unwell can lead to, I don't think it deserves to be dismissed.

AMD is clearly just putting on a performance here though, using the backlash they get as a weapon.

Drakim··on Python 3.15: features that didn't make the headlines
Eh, what's the worst that could happen? Developers opting to run an old version of Python due to incompatible changes? I can't see that happening.
Drakim··on Maryland to ban A.I.-driven price increases in grocery stores
That's the ideal dream scenario, but in reality the market isn't that efficient. Lots of markets gouge their customers and due to power imbalances the customers can't really do anything about it. The free market solution to this is just generally to let people suffer.
Drakim··on The abandoned war: Why no one is stopping the genocide in Sudan
Can you? When our economic system's only driver is "extracting wealth", can we actually develop a country without it? The extraction of wealth isn't some unfortunate byproduct, it's a central cog in the machine of what makes it operate. Money is invested for returns.
Drakim··on Axios compromised on NPM – Malicious versions drop remote access trojan
While technically true, it's so much slower that it's essentially a different thing. Third party packages being attacked is a near daily occurrence. First party attacks happens on the timescale and frequency of decades.

It's like the difference in protecting your home from burglars and foreign nation soldiers. Both are technically invaders to your home, but the scope is different, and the solutions are different.

Drakim··on Atlassian says it had right to fire engineer for suggesting CEO is 'rich jerk'
Yes, why surround yourself with people who are critical of you, when you can surround yourself with yes-men who will loyally toe the line? Positive contributions comes from loyal subjects who agree with their betters.
Drakim··on Afroman found not liable in defamation case
If the damaged party tries to sue the police for the damage they caused, the police can get the case instantly dismissed underqualified immunity.
Drakim··on Danish government agency to ditch Microsoft software (2025)
I'm not sure I follow, are you saying that because the current US government is so bad that people are rejecting Microsoft products, the rest of the world should be thankful to the US for "waking them up"?
Drakim··on Cosmologically Unique IDs

Drakim··on Why I'm Worried About Job Loss and Thoughts on Comparative Advantage
Doesn't that kinda show that these services are not actually based on not creating any genuine value, but are rather just parasites that squeeze as much money from their victims as they can based on the victim's income, rather than the product they can offer?
Drakim··on "Token anxiety", a slot machine by any other name
That is simply not true, token price is largely determined by the token price of their rival services (even before their own operational costs). If everybody else charges about $1 per millions of tokens, then they will also charge about $1 per millions of tokens (or slightly above/below) regardless of how many answers per token they can provide.
Drakim··on Cowork: Claude Code for the rest of your work
