DrBrock··on Taste Is All That's Left
I find this post disheartening. To my eye, it seems to be the author's first blog entry with obvious LLM contributions.

Given the recent "moving to a farm" ... 7 days later ... "leaving the farm" posts, it's hard not to read this as someone clearly struggling with the burnout which is all too common in our industry, and resultingly giving in to the false promise of a machine that can just handle the thinking for you.

DrBrock··on DEA to Temporarily Schedule 7-Oh and Related Substances to Protect Public Safety
Do you trust the DEA, especially under this administration, to be a reliable narrator?

I would strongly recommend doing your own research, because I cannot even begin to tell you how many distinct accounts I have read of people _finally_ getting through opioid withdrawals using SR-17018 for decidedly non-recreational purposes

Ah yeah surely banning more substances will be the end of the problem this time! It definitely won't just push anyone who got hooked on this non-lethal opioid towards unregulated black markets filled with lethal fentanyl...

Fun fact, this is one of two """temporary""" opioid schedulings happening right now. The DEA is also banning 5,6-Dichloro Desmethylchlorphine (SR-17018), which has minimal to no recreational value and is the current most promising breakthrough therapy for opioid withdrawals. It is hard for me to read the combination of these two bans as anything but active malice.

The Terra-Luna stablecoin crash wiped out $50 billion of notional value https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S15446...

It's also a very open secret that the largest Tether stablecoin is not actually 1:1 backed with USD, as they very often claim https://paymentexpert.com/2025/07/24/tether-stablecoin-regul...

DrBrock··on NYC Congestion Pricing Tracker
We appear to have very different definitions of "well-designed cities".

Cars are the least efficient form of mass transit yet devised. They take up inordinate amounts of space to move very few people. This creates unavoidable congestion problems at very realistic levels of urban density, problems which are only solvable by enabling people to use viable alternatives.

This is why the subway and buses in Manhattan move 5x and 2x more people respectively per day than cars. (https://new.mta.info/agency/new-york-city-transit/subway-bus...) (https://www.reuters.com/world/us/manhattan-drivers-face-9-fe...)

Speaking of "wasting life in buses", did you know that the average LA / Chicago / NYC driver spends 85 to 100 hours a year just sitting in traffic? Food for thought (https://inrix.com/scorecard/)

DrBrock··on How good are American roads?
This feels like it's supposed to sound like a bad thing. I think it's awesome the cities you went to were designed for the people who actually live in those cities, not the people driving through.
