DontSueMeBro··on So Long, Macbook. Hello Again, Linux
MacBook implies MacOS and the article is comparing that hardware+OS combination with just an OS. It would have been nice to hear what hardware solution the author ended up with, along with Linux, for a fuller comparison. Mostly because I'm in the same boat as the author and will be moving away from a Mac after 15 years to Linux, but am lost on the hardware front. Right now really wanting a Lenovo Yoga C930, maybe.

This is very nice. I think the green on green and blue on blue highlight are a little hard to see.

As an American currently in the middle of an EU-GDPR implementation I am envious of the level of protection EU citizens will receive. Fortunately, there will be some collateral benefits when companies (such as mine) decide to apply GDPR to all their customers, not just their EU customers.

I'm not the person you asked, but I agree with their post.

It's often hard to have this discussion without it devolving into an argument over "political correctness" [0] so hopefully that can be avoided.

Easiest answer is that the term retarded originally was an acceptable term for people with disabilities, but now has a negative connotation, and when used pejoratively as OP did carries the (possibly unintended) implication that people with disabilities are of less value.

I think Wikipedia entry on Retard (pejorative) [1] is a good summary.

It's also worth mentioning "ableist language" and "ableism" here. [2]

DontSueMeBro··on Ask HN: How is your standing desk working for you?
At work I've used an Imprint CumulusPRO mat and it was very comfortable and took a lot of abuse like using my chair on top of it half the time.
DontSueMeBro··on How MTA shut down my app for Penn Station commuters
I think it is. Like in the article, you can see that given certain parameters like train number and time, you predictably end up with a certain track assignment. If you can also consider track assignments leading up to this time, you can discount those tracks. For example, the 8:02PM Long Beach train always leaves on track 18, except when any 7:56 train left on track 18. As a novice to ML it's currently beyond my ability to model, but my intuition is that it should be doable.

I've been collecting Penn Station NJT and LIRR track assignment data for almost a year now. I've been intending to use ML to predict track assignment, but haven't gotten there yet. I should post it to Kaggle or somewhere similar.
