Dnguyen··on I make mobile application , Am really a Programmer
coding is a very small part of programming. your next level is to plan before you code. have a blue print of what you are going to do, put it down on paper. learn UML and create your diagrams. this forces you to think through what you are trying to do. then it's just a matter of translating what you're thinking into code. you'll find yourself creating code.

THANK YOU! I've been looking for this.
Dnguyen··on Ask HN: Need some guidance to identify a startup idea
Are you doing all of this on your own? Find some people who has the same interest and drive as you. It's much easier to go as a group than alone. Tell everyone about your idea, don't hide it. You proved that ideas are not unique. When you tell people, they see how excited you are and the feed back you get is invaluable. And maybe someone who knows someone also interested in what you're doing. If you run out of idea, keep talking to people. Go to meet ups. There's someone out there who has an idea that you may be interested in and you can team up.
Dnguyen··on Should I apply to YC?
Good ideas are dime a dozen. I don't doubt your idea. What I doubt is your readiness to run a startup. You have to be ready to sacrifice pretty much everything, and at times, your family too. So the question you have to ask yourself is, are you willing to give up your comfortable life to work hard like you never have before just to have a chance. There will be many unknowns and you have to learn most things as you go along, make many mistakes, and experience many disappointments. If you make it through, it will be one of the most rewarding experience of your life. It's been said many times before, running a startup is just compressing all the hard work you'd have to endure in your career into a few years. When you're ready to leave the safety net it's when you're ready for a startup life. Good luck!
Dnguyen··on DIY iPhone Call Recorder
Looks like a fun project! But can't you get a google number, associate the phone, and click 4 to record?
Dnguyen··on Ask HN: We ripped off Crush Notifier, now we need advice.
Do you think FB will let you run with this? How do you handle underage users? I think you'll have a lot of hurdles to overcome.

April 7th can't come soon enough!
Dnguyen··on Ask HN: 'Idea' guy moving in the right direction?
I think we have come a long ways since the days you need to write everything from scratch just to get a basic web site up and running to get your idea across. Have you check out Umbraco? It's a CMS but very easy to use and extend. You can get your basic site up and running in no time. If you want to extend it further, you have custom control that you can add using XSLT, Java Script, C#, etc... This way, you can focus on building your idea instead of building a web site.
Dnguyen··on Forty-five times faster at programming
I would reiterate the practice and practice mantra. But I think it's more of knowing where to find information. Being a professor and many years of experience, the information you need to look up to compete your task is just a thought away. If not, you know where to go find the information online quickly. Whereas, the student struggle with IDE, looking up information from the book that you assigned and google. On top of that, you are confidence that your solution is correct, versus the student may not be as confidence; lacking confidence slows down your progress tremendously I believe. But that's another topic. I think even with google, the student still have to look for an example that is similar to what they are trying to solve, understand the example, and assimilate to their solution. All of that takes much more time than you having the knowledge in your head. To better compare, you should ask them how they go about solving the problem and you try to do similar steps. Now, are you still 40X faster?

Dnguyen··on Ask HN: Do you tend to think you are right?
It's better to admit you're wrong and proven right than to admit you're right and proven wrong. This is how I feel when someone tell me they found a bug in my code.
Dnguyen··on How much does a co-founder get when joining later
The hard part of any startup is execution. How will this person contribute to your execution? What is your plan to finish beta 1 and get users to sign up? Will this person get you there sooner? As with any project, you have to have a plan and milestones. Then you can start this person out with a small percentage. Give additional percentage as incentives to complete milestones. Make sure you leave some behind to attract other people to join you!
Dnguyen··on Ask HN: I broke one relationship, and missed another, worth it?
Not to downplay your situation. I assume you're still young. But life is full of choices. There's no way to know which is the best choice at the moment. All you can do is make a choice, give it everything you got, and you won't regret it. I promise! Just like you are doing with your start up. As for finding the right girl, don't worry the right one WILL come, just when you least expected. In reality, there isn't just one right one. Just as you are not attracted to just one girl. Any relationship requires (much) effort to make it works; just as your relationship with your startup. You are just not ready for a personal relationship now. But that should stop you from going out and having fun with friends. And when you are ready, one of those friendship will turn into a relationship.
Dnguyen··on Ask HN: do you track your time?
I believe the key is to keep it as simple as possible. I tried many different software over the years and what ended up working for me is a simple spreadsheet I created. I just add the task, enter the hours, done.
