Dizcorded··on The senior engineer death spiral
I’m in this exact position and I don’t know the next steps forward. I’m on a sabbatical because I burnt out after a massive project but the expectation is that I come back and lead another massive project.

I’ve yet to decide if that’s what I actually want or if there is another solution out there. Is leaving the only real solution?

Dizcorded··on Why your boss doesn't seem to care about your tech career anymore
At least for myself as a manager, it’s simply that I don’t have the time. There are people on my team that I care about and want to grow but I’m so fucking tired myself. I put as much as I can into teaching, but at some point it’s not my responsibility to help a person understand. Seeing this article kind of made me laugh because it’s every fear I have. I’ve only been at this for 10 years, and I’m taking a sabbatical because of the burn-out. I’ve yet to figure out if I’m exhausted or if the world just keeps taking more and more, every single year. It drives me insane to have Sr. Managers/Directors/etc. act like it’s normal to push and push and expect IC’s to grind on large, hard projects, and then immediately start on another one. Where is the R&R time? Where’s the time for MOB? Tech debt? General learning? There’s no time for anything anymore.

AI has been great as a tool, but you need humans with brainpower to operate that tool. I’ve yet to see a use case where AI has actually made my life easier. It has helped me to crank out code but I could’ve done that given time. Overall I’ve turned into a feature factory instead of having time to think about anything.

Dizcorded··on Cloud Infrastructure as SQL
Ahh, gotcha. I appreciate the response there as I wasn't aware of that notation and even then I can't think of any time I've used a cross join. Not sure which syntax I would use personally.
Dizcorded··on Cloud Infrastructure as SQL
This has absolutely no relevance to me but that SQL snippet just bugs the hell out of me. I can't fathom why you would do a subquery in the from section and then not utilize a join. You're just bringing 2 datasets and letting them sit side by side, why not just move the subquery to the select section? Execution plan should result the same so I guess this is just a preference thing?
