Deritiod··on The saga of Apple’s troubled mixed reality headset
And how many active people can you find there in comparison to all apple iphone owner?
Deritiod··on Climate Spiral [video]
On the other hand we never had so much knowledge.

Your comment reads as an excuse in why it's okay that we are that slow.

Deritiod··on Setting up a Pi Hole made my home network faster
I include your example.

The definition of iot from Wikipedia also does it.

But honestly why I hate my iot window blinds device it's the perfect excuse to use vlan at home.

Deritiod··on The saga of Apple’s troubled mixed reality headset
Huh?

I only know one person who used bis VR set extensively like for 2-3 month and then falled back to play egoshooters.

'a lot of people' != Not market relevant

Deritiod··on The saga of Apple’s troubled mixed reality headset
I bought an HTC vive pro + wireless + index Ctrl.

I did that to play around as I was playing with 3d programming and I'm a nerd.

And while friends and family know that and a few tried it out for a little bit and liked it, no one cares.

Which is fine but it is a gimmick.

I was hoping it would get more traction with real life training like how to use a lathe but nothing really came out or is in some internal companies.

Deritiod··on The saga of Apple’s troubled mixed reality headset
It's inhuman.

It's gimmicky?

I'm really curios of Fashion conces people really like avatars. I don't think so and I also don't think that the apple brand is a good fit for it.

Real life Avatars with light enhancements will also be weird I think

Let's see.

Deritiod··on The saga of Apple’s troubled mixed reality headset
I do not share.your enthusiasm.

Apple buyers are not necessarily tech savvy (from a percentage perspective).

They use their high end phones for normal consumer things.

I have a hard time imagining what a normal person would want to do with VR/are glasses.

Showing your face in a Videochat? Not being able to show your face?

Playing games?

I would assume that there is still a lot of apple people not playing anything than casual games.

Deritiod··on The saga of Apple’s troubled mixed reality headset
You understand how big Ms is right?

Their hardware like the Xbox or surface are not crappy.

Is this just trolling?

Deritiod··on The saga of Apple’s troubled mixed reality headset
I did a little bit of 3d modeling.

Your shortcuts are your bread and butter and you are super fast.

Perhaps for sculpting.

Deritiod··on Why is Bitcoin losing the dark-net markets?
Funny enough: the trust in darknet comes from customer ratings, seller deposit and moderators.

Not from Bitcoin.

A great example on why 'trust' only works for everything inside the Blockchain only.

Deritiod··on The saga of Apple’s troubled mixed reality headset
I know plenty of software engineer who not even click away the GitHub information banner for weeks.

I don't think VR headsets will not take off as display alternatives.

People don't even care about highdpi.

Deritiod··on Setting up a Pi Hole made my home network faster
It's not crap just because you don't see a benefit.

In my opinion, additional being a curios software engineer I find it quite interesting.

Necessary? Perhaps not but helpful.

Heating valves for example.

Deritiod··on Qantas ferried an engine on the wing of a 747 (2016)
It was a novelty. The market was small the expectation that it costly but still profitable is easy.

But I wouldn't care for sonic travel besides the novelty.

Price wins

Deritiod··on Workers quitting over return-to-office policies
I disagree. Y team sits in Montreal. Not my choice but I'm fine with it

I'm not less dedicated to my current company than before COVID.

Deritiod··on Algorithms could increasingly influence human culture
Another though I had when I saw dall-2 and imagine:

We optimized away the 'physical doing' thing of creating new content.

It's only a question of time until video imagine will be able to create real relevant new content.

No one needs meta when we are already quite happy to stair at a cheap 2d screen.

Deritiod··on Algorithms could increasingly influence human culture
I think YouTube is doing this already.

Games as well.

We are getting addicted to content creators, they get addicted by money, views and the algorithm.

Tv was similar but yt is much bigger, catches mich more people and is much more diverse.

Deritiod··on Algorithms could increasingly influence human culture
I'm thinking about this for a while and I believe we are already in the 3th stage of evolution of evolution:

Evolution 1: fittest survive

Evolution 2: human brain + being able to remember gave us glasses and stuff which breaks the fittest survive

Evolution 3: the internet as a huge brain. Tons of input, tons of processing and tons of output

Evolution 4: manifesting the data in the internet into ML models. Creating a new entitiy

Evolution 5: our brain gets overtaken by ai. Perhaps robots?

Deritiod··on Building a Budget Homelab NAS Server
I don't know Im no longer feel save with >4tb drives and raidz1.

I run two offline Nas (I unpower them and do scrabing every month) and have one with raidz2 for all critical things like my photos.

To resilver 8tb takes ages and while he wrote his thoughts on it, I was missing the repair risk calculation

Deritiod··on Building a Budget Homelab NAS Server
Because it works so well. At least that's why I talk about it.
Deritiod··on My students cheated... a lot
I assumed you would say that the programmers should start working for the school system but your final description.of problems is not difficult to solve.

The teachers are the problem.

After all I was also sitting in school for 13 years

Deritiod··on Ask HN: Could Bitcoin be replaced by an ERC-20 token?
Just because you will not be able to make more Bitcoin doesn't mean that you will experience no inflation.it just means that it will express itself different.

'Inflation is the rate of increase in prices over a given period of time'.

Either this will break Bitcoin because it is limited or the Bitcoin domination will change.

Already people are no longer buying one Bitcoin but subbitcoins like 0.01

Edit: and just in case you want to argue that this is deflation: Deflation is also bad. But BTC might reach a fluctuation point were it would see deflation and inflation.

You can't be underinsured in Germany at least for critical thing's.

The bills are smaller. USA is paying a high price for their health system. This one is statistically shown.

Deritiod··on Ask HN: Could Bitcoin be replaced by an ERC-20 token?
You would be right if it would be the same thing.

It's not.

I talked about the specific issue that right now dollar has to be transferred into Bitcoin.

And Bitcoin would look very similar to what dollar currently looks like. It would also has issues with inflation etc.

Deritiod··on Ask HN: Could Bitcoin be replaced by an ERC-20 token?
I did and still think your sentiment simplifies it too much .

The banking crisis was the last big thing which imploded but otherwise we do create eqvilent new wealth with it. Real one

Deritiod··on GoodWill ransomware forces victims to donate to the poor
There were articles of people from USA with proper jobs taking a deep dive after cancer.

The critisism is coming from USA to.

Deritiod··on Ask HN: Could Bitcoin be replaced by an ERC-20 token?
The 51% problem was quite real a few years back due to the underlying motivation to be part of a mining pool.

And it's not too far fetched that china might control a big mining pool if BTC would take off.

And yes decentralization doesn't just fix the issue of regimes like china.

It is more controllable than you would like to make it out.

Especially with the great firewall.

Deritiod··on GoodWill ransomware forces victims to donate to the poor
I have to visit a few low key specialists: Neuro etc. And while waiting is true sometimes calling around helps.

The teeth problem I'm aware of and find it quite unfair indeed.

Nonetheless cancer doesn't make you poor in comparison to the USA.

Still something which has to be fixed in Germany.

But you still have the option to go private if you want.

Deritiod··on GoodWill ransomware forces victims to donate to the poor
In Germany my aunt gets expensive cancer treatment without extra pay.

Any specific you think about?

Deritiod··on GoodWill ransomware forces victims to donate to the poor
Good for you that your employer pays for it.

I think universal healthcare is a social must and we need to fix it instead of talking it down.

Deritiod··on Ask HN: Could Bitcoin be replaced by an ERC-20 token?
And? Bitcoin is already consuming tons of energy while not being anywhere close to what our current system is doing

And not only in context of storing and sending money around.

There is still no fraud detection or account recovery or any other protection in place.

And all that while Bitcoin has not even a strategy on how you would be able to onboard everyone on the Blockchain fair and square. Everyone joining Bitcoin after someone else has less value.

No one will be dumb enough to start trading their fiat with crypto in the long run.

And clearly you don't know how banking works with your suspicion.
