DerArzt··on Texas A&M's H-1B Spending Sparks Debate over Jobs and Transparency
I wonder what would happen if instead of blocking H-1B visas, they put a price floor on all lecture positions that incentivised hiring locally (why go through the trouble of going through the H-1B process when you will pay the same regardless).

Almost as if it would be nice if we had a real minimum wage.

DerArzt··on Lawsuit: Nintendo is getting tariff refunds–customers should get them instead
What a mire this will be for businesses if this lawsuit goes anywhere. I agree with the sentiment of it, and it makes me question the strategy the US Gov is taking for the tariff rollback.
DerArzt··on House Republicans roll out landmark data privacy push
Based on how both US parties treat privacy, I would guarantee that this is going to be mainly for special interests benefit (i.e. business) and not the citizens the politicians are supposed to represent.
DerArzt··on You're about to feel the AI money squeeze
We? Speak for yourself here. I use the LLM not because of a carrot it offers but the stick my employer wields.

I get in and get out with as little "interaction" as I can.

Time to try a third jury /S
DerArzt··on Canada has banned employers from ghosting job candidates
I love that there are industry folks pushing back saying that it will add additional burden and extra administrative processes as if they aren't going to end up sending a legally inoffensive templated rejection letter.
DerArzt··on Students are speeding through their online degrees in weeks, alarming educators
I wish I could live in the same reality as those people that say "A Bachelor's is more than just the certificate, it's about the pursuit of knowledge". I get that yeah that's the case when you're a wealthy individual that has nothing but leisure time, but for everyone else you need to make that bread.

> Nobody is forced to use it

If you consider choosing to leave a job of a tool a choice that people can easily make, then sure. Otherwise, yeah a good portion of employees don't have any say in the software their managers choose, and either use it or get let go

We're six years since GPT-3. Any idea when we'll reach AI Nirvana?
DerArzt··on Tax Wrapped 2025
Neat idea, but no way in hell am I giving my info to that site.

A snakey diagram with percentages would have been cool for the weirdos like me.

DerArzt··on Show HN: Solving digital piracy with game theory instead of DRM
How will the people selling the content be able to advertise the content? Asking as when I went to the site all I see are blurred images with prices below them (I don't feel inclined to shell out cash to see what it looks like unblurred).

Why is it the only news I hear about KFC is the weirdest thing?
