Data_Junkie··on Ask HN: Best Linux Laptop Replacing a Macbook Pro?
There are a lot of Clevo resellers. People have options, but System 76 is the only one people mention anymore.
Data_Junkie··on Private Government: How Employers Rule Our Lives and Why We Don't Talk about It
That's why the healthcare system is what it is. You cannot do it your way without their doctors.
Data_Junkie··on 8chan goes dark after hardware provider discontinues service
Ok to make a lighter, not ok to make bombs.
Data_Junkie··on The iPhone is no longer Apple’s most important product
Absolutely will happen, not suddenly but ....
Data_Junkie··on The iPhone is no longer Apple’s most important product
If they can't really compete on engineering they are done. Everybody can pretend services and style and brand makes up for it but it don't. They were built on engineering and without it and leadership to actually do something it's just a matter of time. The rate might be faster than expected. Looks like it to me.
Data_Junkie··on Employee happiness and business success are linked
But reality is the complete opposite.
Data_Junkie··on Employee happiness and business success are linked
What's being left out is unhappy, discardable employees cost you customers. Customers you would otherwise have never get put in the spreadsheet.

So do you think Donald Trump has good ideas to improve things for poor people ?
Data_Junkie··on Buying a Linux-Ready Laptop
It's like people don't know you can just install Linux on anything for free.
Data_Junkie··on If You're Poor in America, You Can Be Both Overweight and Hungry
Incorrect. Selecting what poor people do with resources as an answer just avoids the problem of rich people choosing what the poor eat, which is the fundamental problem. Let's keep the blame properly placed here.
Data_Junkie··on If You're Poor in America, You Can Be Both Overweight and Hungry
It is lack of education, but those lacking the education that really matters are those making the rules that fill the food supply. Nothing will ever change as long as those responsible are allowed to hide behind cultural beliefs that they control.
Data_Junkie··on Disney heiress ‘livid’ after going to one of her family’s theme parks undercover
Corporations are one of the ways to abstract slave ownership. Sharing the blame involves sharing the profits. Organizing complex activity ? Why do you think organizing complex activity requires a corporation ? Complex activity is organized in all forms of business ownership. Wtf ?
Data_Junkie··on Disney heiress ‘livid’ after going to one of her family’s theme parks undercover
That's what a corporation is for.
Data_Junkie··on Raspberry Pi 4 Review
I ordered Thursday from Amazon and got it regular shipping on Saturday. Only had 2gb kits.
Data_Junkie··on Raspberry Pi 4 Review
But you can blame the greedy for being greedy and wrecking good things. When are we going to get around to making things better ? Might as well start with these fools.
Data_Junkie··on Ask HN: Is “new” Reddit completely unusable for anyone else?
The amount that the readability of the original Reddit design led to the popularity of Reddit seems to have been completely lost. There were aggregators before Reddit, and they lost out because of dumb design, and now Reddit seeks to follow in their footsteps. Absurd and foolish. No adults in the room.
Data_Junkie··on Indian Navy Ruined Its $3B Nuclear Missile Sub by Leaving Its Hatch Open
The 665 USS Guitaro was sunk at the dock at Mare Island. I worked on it when it came back for overhaul in the mid '80s.
Data_Junkie··on Ask HN: Why are hiring processes flawed and testing random standards?
Not democracy, politics. When there are too many for what we know how to do, we just pick what we know and like. Which in most instances is people like us. After enough cultural repetition it just becomes the way to do it. And they end up looking for themselves, but they don't know how to do the work so nobody like them is a good choice.
Data_Junkie··on The Startling Link Between Sugar and Alzheimer's
So can we stop poisoning the food supply you fucking morons.
Data_Junkie··on Assholes: A Probing Examination
Author seems a little butt hurt.
Data_Junkie··on Expecting programmers to problem solve for 8 hours is stupid
Dishonesty is the one true God. What you say can and will be used against you.
Data_Junkie··on Raspberry Pi 4
I'm working on this. I have a solution about ready to launch and I have a question for you. What do you wish it had SSH to do ? I decided not to include it for security, what is not available in the web gui that you would find useful ?
Data_Junkie··on Capital One forcing me to “prove” I opened their emails
Dude, privacy is the definition of not leaving evidence.
Data_Junkie··on Qt 5.13 Released
Well that's stupid.
Data_Junkie··on Qt 5.13 Released
You're not the target.Qt is a stable, high quality SDK, but using high end tech tools is not for the confused.
Data_Junkie··on Mental illness: is there a global epidemic?
Right. A mass delusion by society (which is culture, the shared beliefs of a group that are not true) can create the appearance of sickness in ones not deluded by defining sickness as being what is different from the norm.
Data_Junkie··on How not to get a $30k bill from Firebase
Well the solution is find a market gap, not give people things they don't really need and pull a bait and switch. You can find users of a lot of things if you give them away, don't be surprised if they don't now want to pay for your thing they only used because it was free.
Data_Junkie··on The Books of College Libraries Are Turning into Wallpaper
People think of this as the information age, but we are just approaching it. Libraries as we know them, public and academic, are about to be completely different. Even already the old way is obviously just the same because society doesn't have leadership to advance in blatantly obvious ways because we can't disrupt the cash flow.
Data_Junkie··on Higher Social Classes Have an Exaggerated Belief That They Are More Capable
But it might, hence the topic.
Data_Junkie··on Higher Social Classes Have an Exaggerated Belief That They Are More Capable
Nobody said they didn't. Point was that people with "old" money who have always been of a higher social class than most believe falsley that they are better than they are, for the previously stated reasons. Yes, they are humans, and that's what happens to humans who are given too much. One of the many horrid things that happens to normal humans.
