DarthNebo··on A New Bootable USB Solution
This is actually nice, I can put ISOs from any Type-C device onto this drive without worrying about needing access to another working PC in order create a bootable drive to format my own systems.
DarthNebo··on Amazon India copied products and rigged search results to promote its own brands
I remember them doing something similar to Peak Design too.

Barely 7 months ago on HN as well, https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26338525

DarthNebo··on “This guy is on every startup website”
Remember the navy blue polka dot person as well? Could be avoided if they just skim a lot of popular sites.
DarthNebo··on Localstack – Local AWS Emulator
This is great, would be useful to test scaling at some level too!
DarthNebo··on V-USB – A Firmware-Only USB Driver for Atmel AVR Microcontrollers
Pretty cool to revive a bunch of old Arduino's as plug n play HID input devices across platforms!
DarthNebo··on Lessons learned from sharding Postgres at Notion
This was so insightful, gave me a clearer picture of what all needs to be done during migration!
DarthNebo··on Never rename your Windows user account
Did this once for macOS & never got VLC to work properly again since it kept caching the older username in some location & it was now unable to access some property...
DarthNebo··on [dead]
I've seen articles about the low-power mode being rolled out to macOS Monterey, even for intel Macs. Hopefully that can reduce power consumption. I've also decided to do a thermal pad mod for the VRMs+inductors to reduce throttling, avoid higher top-side temperatures & lower fan noise.
DarthNebo··on AWS launches ARM-powered Lambdas
For some of my use cases the real-time response isn't essential, just needs one of containers for training. I figured I can just go about ECS, but thought if these were wrapped as lambdas it would just be a matter of toggling the base-image/lambda type.
DarthNebo··on [dead]
Just wished I had better control on AMD GPU being used whenever I plug in a display for my MBP16, just ramps up the fan for no reason while my Air is just sipping away on the same display with iGPU..
DarthNebo··on AWS launches ARM-powered Lambdas
Waiting on GPU lambdas to be launched for a lot of ML projects!
DarthNebo··on Lessons learned from running GraphQL
Either optimising the main app or caching with Redis/Memcached can seriously reduce the number of instances & improve the 133 req/sec per server metric as well.
DarthNebo··on Ask HN: Are you also getting extremely obvious spam bypassing Gmail's filters?
They're just using plain text a lot & very watered down language.
DarthNebo··on Opening http://../foo on Android Chrome crashes the browser (Warning: or worse)
Did this to Chrome on Android & it crashed, but only for the first time. Subsequent requests simply took me to google search results instead of resolving the URL.
DarthNebo··on Invidious: An alternative front-end to YouTube
Oh yeah, just checked it out. I thought it would just do the "Watch later" action. From the subscriptions tab, it is easier to do this now.
DarthNebo··on Invidious: An alternative front-end to YouTube
Wish YouTube could just nail a feature of preparing a temporary playlist, by allowing you to drag videos from a wall of new subscribed content & then play it without getting bounced off into auto-played recos.
DarthNebo··on Ask HN: Where is the open source smart TV firmware?
A better solution would be to tap into an input like HDMI using RPi or Nvidia SBCs & existing software like OpenELEC or OSMC. You can lockdown telemetry with Pi-hole/firewalls or just not allow the TV to hop onto WiFi since your input source would be the one needing network access.
DarthNebo··on Mozilla tests Microsoft Bing as the default Firefox search engine
Shouldn't it be DuckDuckGo, since folks looking to use Firefox in the first place would also more likely want to use it?
DarthNebo··on Show HN: My WebRTC app – needs road test
> Apple does not support webRTC technology for video calls in this browser. Please switch to Safari.

Despite visiting the website from Safari, the above message is shown for some reason.

WebRTC has been supported by WebKit since the past few years, so your information is outdated &/or the library being used for abstraction is not up-to-date.

Are you handling users behind a NAT using a TURN server too?

DarthNebo··on Apple Trial Ends in Mixed Verdict After Epic’s Monopoly Allegations
Wonder if Epic is also going to do the same on their store too?
DarthNebo··on Libreboot: Freedom-Respecting Boot Firmware
Is Minix inside Intel Management Engine or the AMD equivalent of any concern? I'm not clear if the bundled firmware is already open sourced?
DarthNebo··on Show HN: Heroku Alternative for Python/Django apps
Does anyone know of a FOSS app to help setup something similar to managed databases w/ Postgres/Mongo, but with ease of use just like AWS/DO have? Handling backups, scaling with minimal user intervention yet self-hostable?
DarthNebo··on In 8 US states, Apple will begin storing driver’s licenses on the iPhone
Do you need to unlock & handover the phone for verification though?
DarthNebo··on Show HN: A simple recording program with the ability to record the screen
A hacky webcam on-screen display can be achieved with https://webrtc.github.io/samples/src/content/getusermedia/re... & right clicking on the video to Picture-in-Picture mode. You can then drag it around where you want while you screen record & it stays on top!
DarthNebo··on Hands-On: MNT Reforms the Laptop
The best part is how each of the 18650 cells are swappable & not one soldered pack. This is something which could have been more widespread across devices like headphones, portable speakers & in slim laptops towards the hinge.
DarthNebo··on Yt-dlp – A YouTube-dl fork with additional features and fixes
Nice, sponsor scrub!
DarthNebo··on Apple will let developers accept payment outside App Store
They'd have to mend a lot of rules around not having links to your own website & what not as well
DarthNebo··on Free Machine Learning crash course from Google
Can someone recommend good PyTorch books they've read?
