DannyPage··on Show HN: I love weird socks and I'm finally launching my lifestyle business
If you can get Robert Griffin III to endorse, you're set! His socks are very weird and very awesome.
DannyPage··on Facebook at $22 Seen in Structured Warrants
For those like me who hadn't heard of warrants before and thought they sounded a lot like options, the key difference seems to be the source of the warrant is different than an option, and a warrant lasts longer.

DannyPage··on [dead]
Having this problem too. The thing that I'm worried about is that my site just keeps trying to load without any error message or 404 page appearing. Is there a way to get something to show up to inform users of the downtime?

(Or ideally, a way to point towards another instance of the site quickly. I'm worried the DNS wouldn't propagate fast enough)

DannyPage··on Is your startup idea already taken?
True, what I wrote initially would seem arrogant in a vacuum. In a fuller discussion, I would cite their main actionable metrics that I've kept track of and show that there is no organic growth occurring. Then I would show what we are doing to make that actionable metric grow.

BTW, I don't waste too much time concerning their success (just a once a month check) especially since my company's success is most important. No one asks "Isn't your company just like X" when you are winning :)

DannyPage··on Is your startup idea already taken?
I just had this very epiphany today. After being rejected by two potential investors because of that reason ("Have you heard of X?"). It's frustrating to say "Yes, I have, and here is why we are different", but still get written off. The investor seems to stop listening after the "Yes", which stinks especially since the main problem I see with Company X is that no one is using it! (They are very loud and in the press, so it gives them an appearance of dominance). So, I will definitely try using that answer next time, if only to force the investor to realize that while the idea is out there, it hasn't won yet.
DannyPage··on When Will Being a Non-TSA Airport Become a Competitive Advantage?
I wouldn't have guessed that either. I flew for 9 months at my last job, which included 6 outbound flights through SFO. SFO was one of the few places where I actually was patted-down instead of scanned (not by choice). So, what is the actual difference between the TSA and the security companies that are emulating the TSA?

Overall, the headline is (unintentionally, perhaps) misleading. I thought there might be some network of airports that don't have TSA-like security procedures. If that were the case, yes, I would use those instead if the prices were close. I guess that is a (libertarian?) fantasy though.

DannyPage··on Bootstrap 2.0, From Twitter
Glad to see that Bootstrap 2.0 is out. Been following along on the 2.0-wip for the last couple days and very impressed with the new Responsive Design.

DannyPage··on Show HN: 7courses - The easy to use online recipe manager.
How do I go back from the recipe in the demo to the list of recipes? Doesn't seem obvious to me.

Also, I like that you put it at $10/month. It might not stay there, but at least you created a price and can move from that price with a good idea of where to go to next that's a better market fit.

DannyPage··on Magnificent looking HTML5 game - "Project Blaze Zero"
Maybe I missed something, but could you add a "Go back to Menu" or "Retry?" option so I don't have to refresh the page?

Very good overall though, I want to keep trying it out and beat it, hence my request!

DannyPage··on Quixey Challenge: Fix a bug in 1 minute to win $100. Refer a winner to win $50.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't think you should have to sign-in to do the practices.
DannyPage··on FIRST Robotics Competition kickoff live stream (10:30am eastern)
Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Aneesh Chopra (WH CTO), and Will.I.Am (plus others) were all part of the kickoff today! Videos here on Youtube: (http://www.youtube.com/user/FRCTeamsGlobal, might have to scroll down past the game explanations).

My father has been mentoring the local FRC team; the basketball game is right up their alley. They'll probably be able to hit the baskets from any distance! Should be very exciting.

DannyPage··on Open Source Visitor.js
What are the ethical concerns about using this and storing the data? If I wanted to use this on my site, should I let visitors know, or is this data fair game to store? I rather not use the location data (or any of it) if there could be an issue.
DannyPage··on The quiz Daniel Kahneman wants you to fail
"The framing effect is also used to explain the influence of positive and negative information on our decisions—for example, why consumers prefer to buy ground beef labeled 80 percent lean rather than 20 percent fat."

Then why don't politicians say "Employment rates are at 91%" instead of the depressing "Unemployment rates are at 9%"?

DannyPage··on Show HN: Get Startup Advice from Steve Blank
10 minutes? That's it? That's barely time enough to get introduced, let alone get solid, specific advice. An instant reaction to my start-up might be nice, but it won't be substantial information that I could truly act on. He would probably just have to fall back on the same information that I could find on his blog or Slideshare in order to fit into the 10 minute window.

However, 30 minutes or more, and I'd definitely consider bidding.

DannyPage··on Ask HN: Best blogging platform?
Tumblr, if you are really interested in the ability to share other blogs quickly and be shared as well. It is also very easy to set-up, maintain, and can work on custom domains as well. You can even add Disqus to most themes if you want feedback and comments. I also love the +Follow feature, as it means that people are more likely to consume your content over just bare RSS feeds. Overall, it's a more expansive Twitter.

Wordpress would be the way to go if you want to have more control over your blog, but I always ended up tweaking the function of the blog more and writing less. Tumblr basically breaks that tinkering distraction and allows you to focus on your content.

DannyPage··on All Hacker Monthly issues free for next ~24 hours
Thanks for this!

Considering how quickly it took someone to write a script to download them all (It is "Hacker" News, after all), I don't know why they didn't just release them all in one Zip file anyway.

Or maybe someone could put a torrent together, given how much they are getting hammered. (2 hours for a 15.6 MB file, yikes!)
