DanOpcode··on PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock
Nice! Have installed it now. I have been using NewPipe for a while, but was missing SponsorBlock and had read that the NewPipe developer didn't want to add it. So this seems great!
DanOpcode··on BMW Spider-Man in-car advertising
I mean, I don't know of it's still around, but the ad-supported Amazon Kindle was at least cheaper than the regular version. So the customer got some compensation for being shown ads.

Soon Chinese tech will be viewed as premium class while their competitors are eroding their quality.
DanOpcode··on BMW Spider-Man in-car advertising
On my Samsung TV recently on the start page some ad has started to show up, years after I bought it. No idea if I can get rid of it. I barely watch TV though, so I don't really care about wasting time trying to get rid of it. But I will for sure avoid Samsung in future TV purchases.
DanOpcode··on BMW Spider-Man in-car advertising
Same in my car from 2017. Also has rear camera, no infotainment other than bluetooth (so I guess it doesn't have any telemetry), physical buttons, no internal nav, no EU warning systems, no alerts that I need to turn off. Perfect car. Very peaceful to drive.
DanOpcode··on BMW Spider-Man in-car advertising
Wouldn't it be fair if BMW at least shared the advertisement revenue with the car owners?

It's so ugly that they first sell cars, and profit from that. And then they utilize the fleet of cars to squeeze out more revenue, even though that was never part of the contract to begin with. What right does BMW have to do that?

If they found a new revenue source, it would be nice if they at least shared that with their customers. Now it's just abuse of their customers. Where BMW is one-sided profiting while the customers are suffering.

DanOpcode··on Canceling "Hey"
I cannot speak for all of Europe, since I have no idea what rules are elsewhere. But in Sweden in the municipality I live in, they have banned begging in public areas. And the ones who are begging in public areas in Sweden are predominantly gypsies. There are a few municipalities in Sweden that have banned begging in public areas, while most still allow it. E.g. in the capital Stockholm it's allowed, and you may see gypsies sitting at shopping streets, at the central station and outside stores.

Just wanted to share that there are areas where people have gotten tired of gypsies, and have gotten rid of most of them in this way, as some extra context.

DanOpcode··on Jolla Phone (October 2026)
It doesn't have any web browsers. Who you are replying to wants Firefox.
DanOpcode··on Commodore Releases Flip Phone
I would possibly be interested in getting one. Sure, it's twice as expensive as other dumbphones (like TTfone TT990, Sidephone, Dumber Mini, Qin F21 Pro to name a few).

But I don't like that they have blocked all web browsers. I don't really mind that social media is blocked, I would probably not install it anyways. But a web browser... I don't really like that arbitrary apps are blocked.

I think it's the form factor and small screen size that would decrease your phone usage. So I think it would be enough with just being a flip phone with a small screen. Blocking apps feels a bit too much.

If I'm out and need to look something up, I would rather that it's a tedious experience with a small screen and T9 keyboard. Rather than not having the option at all.

DanOpcode··on What dating apps are optimizing
> If I'm friendly, responsible, honest, not poor, do sports, learn new things, keep the house clean, then the fuck more you want.

I think you are describing a person who has worked on himself. Like doing sports, that's good. I think too many guys continue with their teenage hobbies like playing computer games, and that's generally not attractive to women.

Of course, there are no guarantees. There's no magic checklist that you can fulfill and be guaranteed to find a partner. But I think there's always more you can do to make yourself more attractive.

DanOpcode··on Notepad++ hijacked by state-sponsored actors
Same here. I think I will probably look at some alternative to Notepad++.

DanOpcode··on Microsoft forced me to switch to Linux
Happened to me just a few days ago. Woke up, turned on PC, all my open programs were gone due to a Windows Update...
DanOpcode··on Claude Code's new hidden feature: Swarms
Very cool! A couple of questions:

1. Are you using a Claude Code subscription? Or are you using the Claude API? I'm a bit scared to use the subscription in OpenCode due to Anthropic's ToS change.

2. How did you choose what models to use in the different agents? Do you believe or know they are better for certain tasks?

DanOpcode··on BirdyChat becomes first European chat app that is interoperable with WhatsApp
Would be interesting to hear how it works what you have built.

DanOpcode··on Claude Chill: Fix Claude Code's flickering in terminal
What is the flickering issue?

Sometimes Claude Code scrolls up far away, and I struggle to scroll it down again. And I have to restart the terminal and Claude Code for it to behave well again. But I don't know if this is the flickering issue, or if it's due to a bug in Windows, Alacritty, Zsh or something else.

DanOpcode··on Nova Launcher added Facebook and Google Ads tracking
What devices are those? A phone with eink?
DanOpcode··on Nova Launcher added Facebook and Google Ads tracking
Good advice!

I made the switch to KISS some time ago. Really like it! I haven't missed anything. Simple and does the job. No distractions.
DanOpcode··on We can't have nice things because of AI scrapers
Feels like parasites who are killing their hosts by DDOSing them to death
DanOpcode··on Oh My Zsh adds bloat
I will check it out! Thanks for the explanation! Sounds really neat
DanOpcode··on Oh My Zsh adds bloat
Thanks! Sounds interesting!
DanOpcode··on Claude Code On-the-Go
Smart! I will have to try that!
DanOpcode··on Servo 2025 Stats
I know they have said that. But it feels a bit strange to me to continue to develop in C++ then, if they eventually will have to rewrite everything in Swift. Wouldn't it be better to switch language sooner rather than later in that case?

Or maybe it doesn't have to take so much time to do a rewrite if an AI does it. But then I also wonder why not do it now, rather than wait.

DanOpcode··on We can't have nice things because of AI scrapers
I don't get why the AI scrapers need to scrape the same sites and pages over and over again.
DanOpcode··on Oh My Zsh adds bloat
I'm using Asdf too. Have heard well about Mise, but I haven't figured out what the difference is, so I have stayed with Asdf
DanOpcode··on Claude Code On-the-Go
I wonder when/how to test and review the code though? I mean, how do you know Claude Code hasn't entered a completely different path than you had imagined?
DanOpcode··on Awesome-Jj: Jujutsu Things
I started to use JJ during the summer, and now I'm hooked. It feels much easier to do things such as reorder, squash and split commits, as well as change commit message.
DanOpcode··on How Google Maps allocates survival across London's restaurants
I have recently tried to navigate with OsmAnd a few times where I live. Once I ended up in the wrong location, and a few times I have had to look up the business in Google Maps to find their address.

I would love to use OsmAnd more. StreetComplete sounds great and looks like a nice way to be able to contribute fixes to OSM. Thanks for the recommendation!

DanOpcode··on The state of Schleswig-Holstein is consistently relying on open source
Are we gonna accept being forever locked in to Microsoft because of custom Excel workbook formulas? Forever paying Microsoft a license fee, because we don't want to covert said formulas or invest in open source software to make it reach parity with Excel.
