D-mo··on Groupon Posts Disappointing 1Q Results, loses $43M
Good point. Writers are paid around $37k/yr according to Gawker, whereas an engineer is at least 2x that.

D-mo··on Polo Puzzle: What Goes Into a $155 Price Tag?
There have been quite a few of these "price debunking" articles in the past year, as if we all finally figured out that we're getting screwed. Software's markup is similarly ludicrous, since there's very little variable cost to serving up extra copies--even with cloud-based systems.

Another one on $550 chinos: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/29/fashion/29ROW.html

Also, anyone else find this "killer app" notion in clothing to be funny? It's like Bonobos claiming they've solved the "saggy butt problem" with a "curved waistband." Genius!

D-mo··on IOS vs. Android from the Trenches
Interesting to hear the differences between the two platforms re: design constraints. Helps explain a lot about why it takes many other apps so long to develop an android version. Looking forward to a better Android version of Bump, since the last wasn't always reliable.

D-mo··on The Groupon Bubble is Going Burst Tech
Mark-to-market accounting (Enron-style) is analogous to Groupon booking $3.5b in revenue in Q12011 because their valuation jumped from $2.5B to $6B this year--something they could never realize unless they sold, thus is null. Run rate is speculative, but far more rooted in reality.
D-mo··on WeePlaces: a visualization of your foursquare check-ins
Cool little trick and interesting to see how little I actually check in! I've heard a few privacy concerns, but if I wanted my location to be private, I wouldn't check in on foursquare.
