CubicsRube··on Why Are Sloths So Slow?
Like tigers can't control their coat color or stripe pattern, but it has an evolutionary advantage so these traits persist.
CubicsRube··on Tesla finds a loophole in states where dealerships are forbidden: Tribal lands
Hyundai dealership in Norway: Came to check the car in person and to ask couple of questions. Without any pressure dealer asked me if I wanted to take it for a ride. I agreed reluctantly, expecting that he will be joining. Nope, he just handed me the keys and asked to take a picture of my driving license. I loved the experience so much I ended up buying the car on the spot.
CubicsRube··on User Inyerface – A worst-practice UI experiment
Same! Closed it on profile picture. Then saw people mentioning "bow" in the comments, so I had to find out what it is. Worst possible way start a day.
CubicsRube··on The Archaeologist Who Collected 4,500 Beer Cans
When I was around 8 (26 years ago), I had a couple hundred distinct cans and cigarette packs glued to the wall with plasticine. Good times.

Wallpaper, though, looked awful when I had to take it down before moving to another place.

CubicsRube··on New nuclear engine concept could help realize 3-month trips to Mars
At first I was like: Nah, it can't be right...

High-school math, napkin, and 5 minutes later: Wow, it's only 42 hours!

CubicsRube··on Tour of Rust
Tour de Rust? No? OK, I'll show myself out...
CubicsRube··on 10-core i9-10900F desktop CPU lags behind 8-core Ryzen 9 4900HS mobile APU
I kept a bookmark just to come back to this thread later. Would you mind sharing your experience so far?
CubicsRube··on Responsive Pixel Art
Thanks, only after your comment I realized there is more to Zeus and I was not looking at it correctly (on big screen).

For those missing the "magic" - try moving the cursor clockwise to each corner of the screen.

CubicsRube··on Chinese criminal gangs spreading swine fever to force farmers to sell pigs
I know it's a joke, but I wonder if bacon can stay edible for that long. After some googling it looks like meat, depending on type, is "good" for up to a year. Some should be eaten within few months.
CubicsRube··on Ask HN: My company wants my side project. What can I do?
Plenty of articles. Search for "nginx office raid".
CubicsRube··on Setting up a home VPN server with WireGuard
Maybe a dumb question, but does anyone sets up their VPN server in the cloud? Could cheapest droplet on DigitalOcean [0] handle traffic for browsing or youtube?

CubicsRube··on SQL queries don't start with SELECT
I'm used to writing the SELECT query and adding the commented-out DELETE just below the SELECT line.

  SELECT *
  -- DELETE
  FROM Sales
  WHERE Customer = 1
Next, selecting the whole query and executing it. If results are satisfactory - selecting only the DELETE part.
CubicsRube··on Ask HN: Who Wants to Be Fired?
TechLead, a youtuber that worked at Facebook, has covered this story [0].

CubicsRube··on Redbird: A modern reverse proxy for Node
I assume that instead of config file (or hardcoded values), they will use Redis store for mapping of the domains/target nodes. E.g. traffic from www.hacker.com is forwarded to 192.168.1.1, and traffic from www.news.com is forwarded to 192.168.1.2.
CubicsRube··on Firefox Pioneer
You will send your data to publicly available server, which will forward it to other server available only through local network, hidden from the prying eyes, secured by firewall, routers, and/or some network configuration.
