Crontab··on Encrypting files with passkeys and age
I recently started to plan for off-site, cloud-based storage and I have pretty much decided that I will be using Age to encrypt my backup files. It basically does everything I need.

My appreciation to the creator.

Crontab··on Infinite Mac OS X
Your comment takes me back to a time when there was a blogger named "DrunkenBatman". Seems like ages ago now.
Crontab··on Low-background Steel: content without AI contamination
Off topic:

When I see a JGC link on Hacker News I can't help but remember using PopFile on an old PowerMac - back when Bayesian spam filters were becoming popular. It seems so long ago but it feels like yesterday.

Crontab··on After 53 years, a failed Soviet Venus spacecraft is crashing back to Earth
I am old enough to remember watching those episodes when they debuted.
Crontab··on Kagi Is Bringing Orion Web Browser to Linux
Doesn't Kagi Search just regurgitate Google's search results?

Love that idea. I would totally buy a M4 Cube.
Crontab··on Microsoft unveils Majorana 1 quantum processor
Any word if it works without a Microsoft account?
Crontab··on Qubes OS: A reasonably secure operating system
Even though I never used Qubes OS I used to really enjoy Joanna Rutkowska's passion for it.

Other women who's computing enthusiasm I enjoyed was Jessie Frazelle's writing and speaking about running everything in Docker on her laptop and Sacha Chua's love for Emacs.

Crontab··on For four years, I photographed, indexed and classified my entire house
That really touches the comic and book collector inside of me. Very nice site.
Crontab··on The long (after)life of some of our old fileserver hardware
There used to be a website where people could create an account and report their system uptimes. It even had its a client to automate the reporting.
Crontab··on Brian Kernighan Reflects on Unix: A History and a Memoir [video]
I wanted to read "Unix: A History and a Memoir" but I couldn't find how to buy a DRM-free copy. It looks really good and I am glad to read that someone liked it.

Do open source COBOL programs exist? Just wondering since I see it mentioned occasionally here.
Crontab··on State Farm announces major change affecting tens of thousands households in CA
State Farm is like a good neighbor. But they are very particular about who their neighbors are.
Crontab··on Microsoft ties executive pay to security after multiple failures and breaches
MS might not be providing security but at least they are giving us the Copilot key and in-Windows advertising.
Crontab··on Key Consciousness Connections Uncovered
That’s sounds interesting. Thanks for sharing this.
Crontab··on Microsoft starts testing ads in the Windows 11 Start menu
Ads in the Start Menu? That is a fucking terrible idea.
Crontab··on I Lost Faith in Kagi
Is Kagi actually running their own search engine or are they just representing the outputs of other company's search engines?

I ask because I am considering a subscription.

Crontab··on [dead]
You got a chuckle out of me with this one.
Crontab··on Ahead of IPO, Reddit blends advertising into user posts
If old.reddit.com does go away, so will I. The "newer" version is truly horrid.
Crontab··on Dune: Part Two Is the Best Sci-Fi Film of the Decade
> The first part left me quite underwhelmed, tbh.

I get that. I felt the same was at first. But after watching it multiple times on HBOMax I have come to really appreciate the film. I think maybe my initial expectations were just too high.

Crontab··on Dune: Part Two Is the Best Sci-Fi Film of the Decade
Glad to hear it. I'm leaving to go see it 45 minutes from now.
Crontab··on Apple Sports
I am not a fan of betting but I support being able to do it. I do think it would be nice if Apple could add an option to hide all gambling-related things for those who struggle with an addiction to it.
Crontab··on Show HN: Resurrecting the Dillo browser

Black hole formation without star collapse is pretty amazing. I wonder if this is something that could only happening in the early universe, when everything was closer together.
