Cozumel··on Ask HN: How to not bring emotion from work back home?
You need to remove yourself from that environment ASAP, find another job.

If all jobs make you feel like this then the problems deeper, either find something YOU want to do, like making a chatbot that would really help in this situation or maybe just forget about work, take early retirement, go see the world.

Life is too short to waste it on something making you angry.

Cozumel··on Ask HN: Laid off by not being 'cross-functional'
> I answered that the modern web apps are very complex both on front-end and on back-end, and is hard to master both sides at same time. Instead of doing a little bit everything, one should be professional at one side and contribute the best of his knowledge.

You do need to be 'cross functional', you might prefer front end development, but you also need to be able to do back end development, and vice versa.

When you understand both, it will make you a much better developer.

And to quote Bill Gates, 'Measuring programming progress by lines of code is like measuring aircraft building progress by weight'

I'm sorry you lost your job but look at this as an opportunity to improve yourself and your skill set.

Cozumel··on Show HN: Put your terminal in your Menubar
I don't honestly see a use case for this at all, I'm sure it solves some problem for you else you wouldn't have created it but it just seems slightly ridiculous.
Cozumel··on Harvard withdraws 10 acceptances for ‘offensive’ memes in private group chat
It's worth bearing in mind that these students were in a supposedly private Facebook group, it wasn't like they were publicly posting.
Cozumel··on Semantic Web is dead. Long live the AI
Whoever wrote that has zero idea of what the semantic web was/is.
Cozumel··on Don't post a GitHub issue unless you have contributed code, or donated $50 cash
It sounds pretty stupid, self-defeating and is conflating two different things, bug reports and support.

Bug reports should be all that goes on Github, for people telling you that your code is broken you should be paying them, they're doing you a favour.

For support, that should stay off Github and be a user generated forum, If you build a community there it'll take care of itself leaving you to just deal with the code.

If you need money you could always offer priority support for those who donate or contribute in some other way.

Cozumel··on ElectronConf postponed until a “more diverse slate of speakers” can be delivered
Learning code should be the only way to make programming 'more accessible'. Black, white, yellow, red, gay, straight, whatever. None of that should matter. All that matters is that you can pull your weight.
Cozumel··on Ask HN: How would you leverage a network that doesn't know what you do?
Maybe you're looking at it a little wrong. Maybe some of your friend run a business and need some IT help, maybe they need a website?

Try reframing it from their perspective, not what they can do for you (tell you if people are hiring) but what you can do for them (make them a website, sort out their IT etc)

Cozumel··on Facebook is an attack on the open web
I think this is more an indictment that people don't actually know how to use FB.

YOU control what you want to see and who you interact with, spending to much time there? Take charge of your own life and click off. Seeing something you don't want to see? Hide it. It's not rocket science.

Personally I get a great deal of value from it. It's a tool like any other, but you have to know how to use it.

Cozumel··on Supreme Court Ends Texas’ Grip on Patent Cases
So when is Rodney Gilstrap ( https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/05/the-year-in-pate... ) going to be investigated for corruption? It seems pretty clear, he passed the law that made it happen, the cases come in front of him.
Cozumel··on Why are so many smart people idiots about philosophy?
To paraphrase whoever said it originally about Stephen Fry 'Nye is a stupid persons idea of what a smart person is'.

A 'truly smart' person wouldn't dismiss an entire discipline out of hand simply because they don't know anything about it, especially not philosophy which is arguably the 'mother' of all science.

I do think it should be a part of basic education, philosophy and programming are two skills that really teach you to think and will last a lifetime.

Cozumel··on Ask HN: What are your biggest Web Accessibility Complaints?
A lot of users on my sites are older so they need bigger font sizes, so it's good for that and also make sure that if they zoom in on a page it doesn't break layout etc.
Cozumel··on Design principle: IKEA effect
Little off topic but to reheat pizza in the microwave put a cup of water in there too, works great then!

Cozumel··on The Purpose of Life Is to Be a Nobody
Read anything by Mouni Sadhu as a good start, avoid anything 'western' like 'meditating to music' etc and all that 'guided meditation' nonsense. The branch of Yoga dealing with the mind is Raja Yoga and I can recommended http://www.yogebooks.com/english/atkinson/1906-09rajayoga.pd... it might take you several lifetimes to get through it all, but it's worth it!

Cozumel··on Handling bot attacks against a Tor hidden service
Don't rely on libraries, just sort yourself out with learning the basics :)
Cozumel··on Ngrok: Secure tunnels to localhost
Why not just setup SSL in your development environment? It's seriously not that difficult at all, there's zero reason to use Ngrok (although I'm sure it does what it does very well), plus asking this question after you're already paying is kind of silly.
Cozumel··on WordPress Core up to 4.7.4 – Potential Unauthorized Password Reset
Wordpress shouldn't be using any globals at all. That code doesn't just smell, it reeks.
Cozumel··on Yik Yak shuts down and sells off engineers for $1M
No business model. Just take the funding and run.
Cozumel··on Ask HN: Anyone still use Netbeans?
I do, mostly just for PHP, everything else I use Sublime.
Cozumel··on Ask HN: Is it ok to create/start writing code for a startup while employeed
No, it's not ok, now eat your supper and go to bed!

Presumably you're a grown adult, you don't need our permission to do anything. You're asking the wrong questions.

You should be asking, what is it I want to do? Will 3 weeks be enough? (it won't) Does my employment contract allow for this? How would they even know unless you tell them?

Work on it in your free time, don't tell anybody, especially your employer. When/if you're ready to launch and if there's going to be a conflict of interest you can quit then.

Cozumel··on Twitter allegedly deleting negative tweets about United Airlines incident
There are tons of alternative social networks to Facebook, I run several of them. People are more than happy to pay a few $$ a month to not be tracked, censored or advertised at.

Even completely free you can be profitable just selling 'credits' to send e-gifts etc. Facebook is functionally crippled, they still don't even have a dislike button.

Cozumel··on [dead]
It's not Assad using chemical weapons, it's the US backed groups. They launch a gas attack on civilians, blame it on Assad, and it gives them a 'credible' reason to keep trying to oust Assad for the formation of 'Greater Israel'.

Cozumel··on After Recent Scandal Trump Family Turns Towards Encryption
'Several encrypted Tutanota mailboxes were registered yesterday alone with distinct names of Trump family members' - That sends up all kinds of red flags! In the comments the author of the piece even says it's 'fake' but still that's one provider I would never consider now and would actively warn other people against even trying.
