Contortion··on Fans quitting Spotify to save their love of music (2022)
The arguments in the article seem to basically boil down to 'I stopped using Spotify because I didn't like how I was using it' and 'I stopped using Spotify because I assign value to music outside of listening to it'. In both cases I don't think Spotify is really the issue.
Contortion··on The 160-year mystery of Europe's Ice Age 'queens'
Somehow, despite being an alt-rock fan since my early teens, PJ Harvey had completely passed me by in all but name.

Due to your link I'm now listening to the Dry album from start to finish and really enjoying it.

So thanks friend for brightening my Sunday morning!

Contortion··on If you're just going to sit there doing nothing, at least do nothing correctly
Because "I can't find any printers" suggests that printing is possible if only you set up your printer correctly, rather than suggesting the print function doesn't work.

By showing that no printers can be found the app is misleading the user to think there's an issue external to the app that they need to solve themselves.

Contortion··on If you're just going to sit there doing nothing, at least do nothing correctly
I wouldn't call creating mystery failing gracefully. As a user I would prefer a full crash to the application gas lighting me by suggesting there's something wrong with my setup (we can't find your printer vs you're not allowed to print).

If anything creating mystery about what the app is doing is the direct opposite of good UX.

Contortion··on Ruby 3.3 on Rails 1.0
This seems like a semi-moot point considering that after you've updated something you (presumably) also run an automated test suite and (have someone) test the application manually.

I've also had various occasions where code compiled successfully but no longer worked as intended.

Stellaris

I've lost track of how many times I've had to relearn that game.

Contortion··on Show HN: Spindle, a cross between Wordle and a Rubik's Cube made in PHP
Except I'm trying to spin letters to make words and it's flashing red telling me it's not possible. I have SGET and I'm trying to switch the S and the G. Am I missing something?
Contortion··on Fairphone 5: Keeping it 10/10?
Wired has a good review of the Fairphone 5 including camera performance here: https://www.wired.com/review/fairphone-5/
Contortion··on Fairphone 5: Keeping it 10/10?
Happy to read how much better it is than the Fairphone 2. I had one when they first came out but I got rid of it after 1.5 years and bought a Pixel 2 (which I am still using currently and looking to replace with a new Fairphone ironically) because it was so slow, oversized and seemingly cheaply made.
Contortion··on Ask HN: What are some of the most elegant codebases in your favorite language?
Also Carbon. It makes working with dates and times (something which is by it's very nature a PITA) actually enjoyable and easily readable.

I also really appreciate FakerPHP for how easy it is to generate realistic fake values.
