ConsumerLed··on Peloton Confidentially Files Statement for Proposed IPO
Incredible marketing from Peloton and they builds on the Spinning/Indoor cycling trend that SoulCycle and FlyWheel started.

But I can't help but think a lot of people would be better off with a real bike, a smart turbo trainer and an iPad to access a variety of training programs (i.e. Zwift TrainerRoad). Less lock in, the ability to ride outside, and all possible for a similar price to Peloton bike.

As a cyclist I've also heard the power-meter readings from Peloton aren't as accurate as those from a Wahoo or Tacx turbo trainer.

Still congratulations to Peloton on the success and getting so many people exercising at home.

ConsumerLed··on Electric Scooters in New York City? They Just Might Work
Electric bikes (e-bikes) are safer and more durable than scooters, BUT they cost way more (>5x I think) and take up more space. There are also the issues of changing seat height and dresses/long clothes getting caught in bikes.

I'm based in London, where scooters are still banned, but tried Lime in Austin when it first launched. I found the digital experience incredible and I had a great time. But the small wheels on anything other than silky smooth surfaces makes trips uncomfortable and I did almost wipe out. Plus the brakes are not great and the battery performance deteriorates noticeably on longer trips.

There is a place for scooters (small downtown areas) but I think that E-bikes make more sense and can use existing cycling infrastructure more easily. Excited by all these changes...

ConsumerLed··on UK’s Dixons Carphone admits huge data breach
I was the victim of identity fraud at a Carphone Warehouse branch. Someone set up 2 new contracts on 2 different networks using nothing but my address, bank account details and a fake id (paid cash for the upfront payment). Their incompetence is mindblowing. This company is going to £0.
ConsumerLed··on Tesla Roadster
Rolling acceleration and track handling are more important than Drag racing. Bit fed up of 0-60 times being such an important feature. 50-70 more important, handling a bit more important again. And of course for most people build quality, running costs and environmental credentials.
