CommitSyn··on In post-Roe US, clinical trials may be too risky for people who can get pregnant
I was a bit confused about the commenters wording as well because the subject made perfect sense to me, and coincidentally I also thought they were talking about 'fertile'.

But they meant 'women'.

If that "long story" is stimulant abuse, the shadow people are much more pronounced than in regular sleep deprivation. So is the psychosis.

I also had a few years period where I would get constant sleep paralysis during sleep. Multiple times weekly. It's a very unique feeling and you know it when it starts coming on. I trained myself to ignore it as best as possible and "go back to sleep" instead of opening my eyes. Much harder when it's incorporated into an actual dream though instead of just seeing/feeling/hearing things in your room.

After doing that for a while, I had an extremely intense episode where a vortex/black hole was at the bottom of my bed sucking me into it, and I just KNEW if I didnt fight it that I'd be dead. So I fought for my life. That was my last episode of sleep paralysis... going on 5 years now.

That's great. You already know this but ignore the people trivializing it. Yes, we hackers could get this running without much effort but most people are not hackers and have absolutely no clue where to start. Even as a hacker there are occasional tools that I don't have on my system at that moment so I'm very thankful to have easy point and click websites people have built around the tools, because it saves a ton of time. Time is incredibly valuable to me now, and I'm happy to pay for things that help me do things faster.
CommitSyn··on For first time, US task force recommends screening adults for anxiety disorders
That's just how stimulants are said to work for people with ADHD. They don't have enough dopamine for proper functioning, so when they do get a boost of dopamine they are able to function more normally. Wired (hyperactive) -> tired. I'm not aware of antihistamines making people with ADHD wired, but I do know someone that used to get energetic when they took a benadryl.
CommitSyn··on Social-Media Influencer Andrew Tate Is Charged with Rape, Human Trafficking
Unfortunately so. He just has a certain presence-demanding demeanor to him that seems to register on a deeper level with insecure men. He also has a very meticulously crafted social image. He has a couple different "universities" and organizations which people pay something like $50/mo to for advice on business and relationships to "escape the matrix."

It's sad so many fall for it, but they do.

CommitSyn··on Social-Media Influencer Andrew Tate Is Charged with Rape, Human Trafficking
He's a guy that took traditional pimping online. Convinced girls to move to his locale with promises of marriage and wealth, and when they got there made them perform webcam shows with threats of violence, retaliation, exportation. He took all the money, and gave them a small percentage.

He also documented and proudly expressed what he was doing on social media. So it should be a fairly open and shut case.

He also has a very active social media presence (primarily YouTube and TikTok) about life and power, with mansions and exotic sports cars, so many young boys are looking to him and finding a macho role model... I went through it with my son, and have a couple friends with boys of similar ages who have as well. Plenty of 20 and 30 something's are more or less pledging allegiance to him on Twitter though.

CommitSyn··on For first time, US task force recommends screening adults for anxiety disorders
Is it hydroxyzine? I am prescribed it as a non-habit forming anxiety medication, but it just knocks me out too so I only use it as a sleep aid. And if I take two my heart races and I can't sleep. My anxiety and depression have been significantly improved since starting TRT (I was way under the normal range for my age). I am waiting for cannabis to become legal here because smoking miniscule amounts as a teenager helped me tremendously in all aspects of life, but I never enjoyed, nay I feared, getting stoned.

CommitSyn··on Soviet Union sold titanium to US believing they needed it for pizza ovens
While that is a good point, there are many other frequently prescribed drugs with shorter rx periods - antibiotics, benzodiazipines, sleep medication, emergency medications like inhalers and Epi pens to name a few. If you look at the list of most commonly prescribed drugs¹, opioids aren't even in the top 15, which makes that statistic even more concerning, albeit obvious in hindsight.

CommitSyn··on Soviet Union sold titanium to US believing they needed it for pizza ovens
> 4 out of 5 pharmacy-filled prescriptions is not 4 out of 5 prescriptions

As opposed to the non-pharmacy filled prescriptions people pick up?

Your argument is that the statistic only works because so many people don't pick up meds their doctor calls in for them?

I'm not a statistician so maybe I'm not understanding correctly, but that seems like a very weak argument.

CommitSyn··on Soviet Union sold titanium to US believing they needed it for pizza ovens
4 out of 5 pharmacy-filled prescriptions are opioids.¹

In almost every single case, those using these drugs are trying to escape the physical and/or emotional pain. They didn't wake up one day and say "I want to have fun, I'm going to do heroin"

Almost every fentanyl user I've talked to in harm reduction work started out on prescribed painkillers. Whether they got the taste and moved up quick, or just couldn't get their fix and couldn't deal with the horrible weeks of withdrawal and found a place to get it, they didn't just up and start shooting fentanyl one day.

CommitSyn··on First people sickened by Covid-19 were scientists at WIV: US government sources
Having had a number of bad colds before I actually got a bad flu, I always thought my colds were the flu. Not a huge deal. When it was confirmed to be the flu when I talked to her later, the mobile doctor said that many people think the same because they tupically don't go to the doctor for confirmation, if the doctor even chooses to test.

A real (non-covid) flu had me feeling like I was on death's door for a week, and much of that time was spent wishing it would take me.

CommitSyn··on Reddit Doubles Down
On Reddit, you can say things that would be normal anywhere else, but make a small group of terminally-online individuals very upset. Something as simple as asking 1 question in 1 subreddit. That's how I got my first ban. It's what made me completely apathetic to reddit.

The other bans were my fault (as in, I knew it was likely at that point) but I was apathetic at that point. Still, I appealed because they were silly bans, and my account was reinstated each time.
