CommanderData··on We are self-hosting our GPUs
Sounds like a bargain.

Any idea how long your servers will last until you need to upgrade to the latest GPU/HW?

CommanderData··on Hezbollah pager explosions kill several people in Lebanon
Interesting, never knew this. Do modern pagers transmit any RF at all?
CommanderData··on Hezbollah pager explosions kill several people in Lebanon
Sucks to be them, why they even use pagers is laughable, unencrypted or encrypted. Cell infrastructure is easily traceable.

I just feel sorry for the innocent lives involved in all of this, no one deserves to be caught up in either side of the conflict.

CommanderData··on A Collection of Free Public APIs That Is Tested Daily
Great resource, with a nice UI (Love to know how it's built).

Found public resources I always wished existed.

CommanderData··on Show HN: Iso20022.js – Create payments in 3 lines of code
Nice work, can I ask how you tested this with SWIFT for example? Is there a development portal you need access to?
CommanderData··on US urges citizens to leave Lebanon on 'any available ticket'
Leading up to the eventual expansion of the US's glorified military base, which is internationally recognised as an illegal occupation by the UN.

The escalation with Lebanon, then Syria has been planned and is now just being executed.

CommanderData··on Europe is in danger of regulating its tech market out of existence
1. Pay to play (tax)

2. Comply to play (regulation)

These are big markets with massive winnings even with regulation and tax. Corps can either step aside and let someone else profit or comply and play.

CommanderData··on Evidence mounts that shingles vaccines protect against dementia
I don't think it's possible to get the Shingrex vaccine before retirement age unless you are immune compromised.

I could be wrong but even if you're willing to pay privately, you won't find healthcare provider wanting to do this off label.

CommanderData··on Preliminary Post Incident Review
They know better obviously, transcending process and bureaucracy.
CommanderData··on Preliminary Post Incident Review
"We didn't properly test our update."

Should be the tldr. On threads there's information about CrordStrike slashing QA team numbers, whether that was a factor should be looked at.

CommanderData··on Instagram Recommends Sexual Videos to Accounts for 13-Year-Olds, Tests Show
The TikTok ban is political and not to save the children, perhaps to stop them seeing the horrors in the middle east, instead tune them into $MindDestorying content instead.
CommanderData··on Apple's Latest Macs and iPads Have Hidden Smart Home Thread Radio
I think this will be a great move towards mass adoption of smart home devices, which still seems a bit niche.

Amazon IoT for example worries me because the lack of network boundaries, so like that I wonder if the same challenge arises with Thread.

CommanderData··on Israel reportedly used fake social accounts to garner support from US lawmakers
For the record I didn't verify the deaths, I looked at information release in past conflicts for the last 10 or so years *.

"MoH statistics have also been verified by Human Rights Watch and used by the United States Department of State in past conflicts and as recently as March 2023, despite US President Joe Biden questioning those numbers without evidence."

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/5/14/has-the-un-really-s...

Palestinian authorities were found to be releasing counts in good faith and never inflated numbers for the sake of an information war. This is a key point, why doubt an organisation that hasn't lied about it's death count before.

Deny, Discredit, Disinform, Diffuse and Defray are things you'll see time and time again in threads like these.

Now, it's a sobering thought 15,000+ children have been murdered, in 2023/2024. With full support of the US, 'ironclad' apparently.

CommanderData··on Israel reportedly used fake social accounts to garner support from US lawmakers
At this point they have a wiki or discord somewhere where they share talking points between each other.

Someone from their group is clearly thinking ahead and automating all of them out of a job :)

CommanderData··on Israel reportedly used fake social accounts to garner support from US lawmakers
Once a glorified US military base in the middle east served to expand US interests has become a parasitic entities and controls the host.

The upside is the relationship is symbiotic, US expands Israel's borders, wreaking havock in the region, but tests US's war apparatus under "defence" and prevents a unified Arab/Asia/Indo state.

Israel gets free reign to ignore international law, billions, while touting some story about a 'promised land'.

CommanderData··on Cloudflare took down our website
In my experience OVH DDoS protection works pretty well. It's not perfect every single time.

I have more good things to say about OVH then bad. I do wish their edge firewall worked against internal traffic too however.

CommanderData··on Putin hijacked Austria's spy service. Now he's going after its government
Both are bad.

The US ignoring deliberate starvation of 2 million Palestinians is probably worse as of right now. People are starving to death because of it, video evidence and all.

CommanderData··on ICC prosecutor seeks arrest warrants against Sinwar and Netanyahu for war crimes
About time. Let's hope he's arrested quickly.
CommanderData··on Tech companies are flocking to the Middle East
It is HNs business to speak about middle eastern countries except for speaking about Israel, it's suddenly very political and no longer HN worthy.
CommanderData··on Tech companies are flocking to the Middle East
I'd take a few beheadings for some of the laughable sentences given in 'leading democracies' for like rapist, child rapist, murderers.

Who would have thought that cutting someone's limbs off as a punishment would result in nearly very little theft in those countries too.

CommanderData··on I gave my time and expertise to StackOverflow because it was licensed CC-BY-SA
I think a explicit AI-hostile / AI non-friendly license is needed which explicitly denies work being trained on. For the small minority who do not wish to feed the LLM, shortsighted maybe but I can see a group of people who are all for source available but not for AI.

I imagine most licenses that are AI restrictive indirectly can potentially be circumvented.

Edit: looks like there already is https://github.com/non-ai-licenses/non-ai-licenses

CommanderData··on Deaf girl is cured in world first gene therapy trial
Unfortunately this particular therapy will not.

However the vehicle being used (viral) could be used to carry a different payload which enables regeneration of the cells it targets. This research has proven they can get to the place which is important.

Though remember hearing is comprised of many things, auditory nerve, SGC, axons, supporting cells, INC and outer, not to mention a healthy environment for which hearing cells 'bathe' in (Perilymphatic fluid).

The research is ongoing, I often hoped there was more advocacy groups to help increase government funding in this area as it's a condition soon to affect us all because of age.

CommanderData··on Israel shuts down local Al Jazeera offices
Al Jazeeras response was to say Israel is trying to cover up their crimes.

We all know Israel wouldn't do anything of the sort right, along with killing on average 50 children a day for the last 220 days.

I hope this comment is in spirit of HN which has consistently taken down stories about Israel.

CommanderData··on Google fires more workers after CEO says workplace isn’t for politics
I'd do the same if my employer helps a regime kill 74 children every day through precision airstrikes.

When Russia invaded Ukraine we saw a massive redrawl of companies, funny how this isn't happening with Israel at the same speed when the crimes are far worse.

CommanderData··on Google fires more workers after CEO says workplace isn’t for politics
Israel has killed 74 children every day for the past 200 days.

74 children a day. Murdered. Mostly precision airstrikes.

Google helps the same people committing this.

CommanderData··on US moves to force ByteDance to sell TikTok
The American/western hearts and minds are a playing field and a battleground, which the rogue powers are struggling to control at the moment.

Control the media and people's ability to consume information but give people the illusion it's free and open.

Platforms such as this, and any Western one is tightly controlled.

Tiktok, the outlier and it needs to be brought into the fold asap. Instagram, Facebook, YouTube's censorship of Gaza's conflict are abiding by the memo by silencing voices speaking up.

CommanderData··on Robotic arms that assemble panels on solar farms
There's another that's killed 71 children every day for the last 6 months.

We support that Terror state too, Israel.

CommanderData··on Read Google's memo warning employees to 'think again'
This post most likely was identified and went out to Israeli disinformation groups to be spam flagged.

Or HN and it's mods are bias because other political piece's are posted here often.

CommanderData··on Read Google's memo warning employees to 'think again'
Care to share some links on how they speak about Palestinians? I like to remind myself how evil a human can be.
