There are prompt books and prompt sites where you can buy them a dollar at a time. The hustle culture has built this fog of fake complexity and hidden methods in order to prop up their little cottage industry. Every AI Guy on TikTok has a way to "maximize your productivity with GPT" so you can "Start an AI company".
We haven't sucked the joy out of creating things, we've just tried to further commodify the process of creating and in turn spun a web of myths and lore where there didn't need to be any.
National Security? For who? The green haired lib and the redneck bitching about the culture war? It's Furbies all over again! (Yeah you heard me right)
Ban it from government devices and networks, who gives a shit? Most workers can't get to social media while on the clock anyway...
I know people personally who have never launched the app but tell me it's Chinese brainwashing. Someone related to me blames their marriage falling apart on TikTok.
It'd be funny if it wasn't so obviously entangled in the "anti-woke" horse shit people have been suckered into in recent years. Backed by silicone valley because it's eating their fucking lunch. Supported by shareholders to disrupt lines of communication regarding citizen journalism, union building, and other working class solidarity.
All government agencies would have a verified .gov domain.
States have access to .gov domains
hell, My local town has a .gov domain.
States have access to domains like ca.us, schools in states have access to k12.ca.us domains.
I guess States could offer domains like, person.county.town.state.us but what a mouthful. Or maybe person.citizen.state.us but doesn't seem ideal either.
I guess you could have a verified TLD so you can have individual domains like johndoe.verified... but it takes away from the domain being linked back to my website. Sure I could set up a redirect but boy that's starting to get complicated.
I think domains are a fine barrier for entry for vanity handles. Current domain registers could offer their own verification services where they can include the verification in the whois information.
If Joerogan.biz doesn't come back with some kind of verification string inside then it's not Joe's domain. That string could be a pubkey and services could allow for either encrypted posting or including an encrypted string that verifys against the domains whois information.
Or that pubkey could be stored as a txt record in the domain.

You've identified the problem, the railroads are a captured market, but it's because most regulatory bodies are operated by former agents of those industries or those taking large amounts of money from those industries. These industries DO get bailed out, because they have captured the regulatory mechanism. Their wealth consolidation allows them that power, especially in the post Citizens United world we live in.
The things you view as failings of the government are corporate successes in the never ending squeeze of year after year growth.
The power structures inside these corporations are squarely authoritarian in their design. You have no real agency within your workplace. The most freedom I've ever experienced in my work history has been working for government agencies, specifically public education, doing IT work. This idea that, in the absence of government intervention, we (citizens) would have the agency to do the right thing in these moments completely ignores the massive amount of leverage the corporation has over its workers. Since these corporations are top down, hierarchical, and authoritarian in their organization, the only will the workers have is that of those at the top. In this case, the executives and shareholders who historically have shown to not be interested in taking a loss for the sake of safety.
You mention that, under the utopian vision of the free market, we would go to another vendor. So who would we decide to transport with? The rail systems are regionalized and to get from one part of the country to the other you have to make trilateral or quadrilateral deals with these companies. In other words you are forced to use all of them on some leg of the journey. This regionalization means that there is an oligopoly on the rail system. How are you going to create a "competing" rail system in any of these regions when these companies own all the rails?
It's not like how it was when I was growing up. We spent $2000 on a Gateway PC that I had full admin access to, and unfiltered internet. Now that kind of money is being spent on cellphones in the household. Because I had that kind of access I was bricking the OS (and reinstalling it), Mailbombing people's AOL inboxes, putting Sub7 on Kaza and Limewire and remotely messing with peoples computers.
The computers at school were only networked my senior year. Even then they were basically wide open.
Me and my friends effectively operated a screwdriver shop out of whoever's house we happened to be at. We were trying to host game servers on whatever we could cobble together.
None of our families had cellphones because they were still only used by businessmen. Computing priorities were way different and how you were exposed to them was different as a result.
None of those opportunities are anywhere near as common now. Kids get devices in schools but they're basically bricks that log everything you do. Computer Labs are rare and their access is fully locked down. Most students first personal computing device is a cellphone, and more likely than not it's an iPhone. All phones are super locked down but apple's even more so.
The market has changed. The days of open computing are now relegated to the back of the line or for those who can afford it.
So it's no wonder a class like this exists. We see similar issues in middle school where students don't understand what folders are or where their files are stored. Phones and tablets make it so easy you never have to think about it. This also extends to collage as well.
