That's pretty clear and coherent to me.
The skill and ability and depth of experience held by my older coworkers makes me grateful to have the opportunity to work with and learn from them.
To any older individuals here still working in tech, please don't feel unwanted. Your experience is needed and appreciated, especially by the juniors who get to work with you.
Worst case scenario you're always free to find another employer. I'd be willing to take an effective $800 pay cut for work from home (if I didn't have it already, that is). But I suppose you prefer to be in the office, and that's fine.
Did you plan on living in that room forever? If it was too small for you to comfortably work from home in I imagine you'd have been moving out sometime soon anyway. At worst the job just made you take on that additional expense a bit earlier than you'd have preferred.
Then again maybe that's just me.
The implementation details will vary wildly depending upon your exact needs.
By your logic, virtually every single business owner on the planet would be guilty of whatever you're accusing the Walmart execs of. Cars, computers, paper, pens, phones, wire, etc etc etc. There are very few popular products or services that don't facilitate criminal/antisocial behavior in some capacity.
This has been an issue at my org and we're having a hard time improving it.
In a lot of cases a truly healthy diet is cheaper than the tasty but atrociously unhealthy "cheap" foods. Yes, you do sacrifice some variety and flavor, but it's more than doable.
The world isn't fair. That sucks, and I'm all for working to change that, but until that change comes we have to accept it for what it is. If you throw your hands up and don't challenge anything because you were born with a disadvantage then you're only contributing to the issue. It's much easier to throw your hands up when you're told over and over again that it's not your fault and is all the cause of immutable externalities.
I don't think it's wrong to point out potential related factors but it is wrong to shift any of the blame to those factors, thereby removing it from oneself.
How dare you suggest someone "eat less" or "exercise". Are you suggesting fat people deserve to starve to death? /s
On a serious note, more people than I'd like to admit have seriously adopted some variation of that outlook in relation to health, among other things, and it's really doing an immeasurable amount of harm. I feel like more and more the message coming from the more radical SJW types is "Everything is outside of your control, you have no agency, don't even try to better your life, it's all the fault of the government/capitalism/white people/etc". If you had gotten me with that as a gullible teenager I'd probably still be in the same poverty I grew up in and would be in much worse physical and mental health.
People like to shit on animal farms and say that more calories could be grown with less resources with plants. That's true, but the calorie count isn't the only factor to consider. Humans need a diverse diet.
Yes, minorities are proportionally more likely to be in low-income communities, but the actions taken to harm these low-income communities hard the entire community, not just certain ethnicities within it.
If the intent was specifically to do this in black neighborhoods, regardless of that neighborhoods comparative wealth, then it would be racism. As is, it's a lot more complicated than that.
I didn't blame porn alone, but I said I wouldn't discount it's contribution to the issue as GP did. I agree it's a complex issue.
Ah yeah, fair enough. My mistake.
