Clent··on Vermont replacing power plants with home batteries
I would assume they do not use every enrolled home's 36 allotment on the same 36 days.
Clent··on California is chasing wealth that has feet
The famine is unrelated to the land distribution but also the farm land distribution didn't last. They changed course and put the land into collectives and it is still in collectives today so the famine cannot be blamed on collectives.

My understanding is the famine was essentially the middle managers of these collectives over stating yields and being too afraid to admit their lies. To maintain the lie, they shipped off food while the farmers starved.

Clent··on Giving up on smart rings
This isn't remotely true. Steel is absolutely still allowed. The steel toe is designed to collapse without crushing the toe. When that happens, the boot needs to be replaced.

There are composites which are fiber based but those aren't labelled as steel toes, they aren't designed to shatter and it's not plastic.

Clent··on I wanna live an NPC life
Except the comparison is between the non-playable character and the playable character. Neither can just move to a different game.
Clent··on Grand jury declines to indict Ohio man charged with destroying Flock camera
Except there are multiple efforts to make voting more difficult.
Clent··on Biohacker seeking immortality afflicted with incurable 'stomach eating' disease
If creating research data means one is performing science, the word means nothing.
Clent··on LLMs Are Closer to Religion Than They Appear
If there are enough people who want a Christian LLM, why hasn't one been made one?
Clent··on Trump Mobile exposed customers' personal data
There are regulatory rules on when disclosure must occur. They're saying they're not going to bother if it's not required.
Clent··on HP trialed mandatory 15-minute support call wait times (2025)
Isn't that the opposite though? Having a store for the customer to get face-to-face support is sometimes necessary even those who prefer it all to be online. It acts as a stop gap to people otherwise low support customers.

The newer upstarts you mention are self selecting for customers who would do everything they can to never make a support call. They are just another form of having a 15 minute wait time because online only is it's own customer service barrier.

Clent··on After outages, Amazon to make senior engineers sign off on AI-assisted changes
Who is the media you're accusing here? This is a twitter post. As far as I can tell they do not work a media company.

What is worth being pointed out is how quickly people blame "The Media" for how people use, consume and spread information on social networks.

Clent··on Workers who love ‘synergizing paradigms’ might be bad at their jobs
Outcome: Fail to think about it, only do stupid shit.
Clent··on AT&T, Verizon blocking release of Salt Typhoon security assessment reports
No, it's pointless to complain about the existence of a backdoor, locked or unlocked because there is a front door that is not being locked.
Clent··on Why didn't AI “join the workforce” in 2025?
Seems like a good test to see if the person who is ask should be fired. It's a test that clearly proves they are not a team player.
Clent··on RAM is so expensive, Samsung won't even sell it to Samsung
This is a crazy out of touch perspective.

Depending on salary, 2 magnitudes at $5k is $500k.

That amount of money for the vast majority of humans across the planet is unfathomable.

No one is worried about if the top 5% can afford DRAM. Literally zero people.

Clent··on IBM CEO says there is 'no way' spending on AI data centers will pay off
It global warming exists, why is there snow?

Same thing here. You're dismissing a flood because it rains.

Clent··on Proximity to coworkers increases long-run development, lowers short-term output (2023)
It's quite telling that this is nothing more than an abstract but it has gained votes so fast it hit the top link.
Clent··on Google Antigravity
They still aren't learning. You're learning and then telling them to incorporate your learnings. They aren't able to remember this so you need to remind them each day.

That sounds a lot like '50 First Dates' but for programming.

Clent··on Rebecca Heineman has died
This implies the US is subsidizing the world's healthcare system and sacrificing it's own citizens for the benefit of every non-American.

You're ok with that?

Clent··on Digital ID, a new way to create and present an ID in Apple Wallet
Apple also supports select state drivers license.

I would definitely expect Google to follow quickly.

Clent··on iOS 26.2 to allow third-party app stores in Japan ahead of regulatory deadline
You went with a cynical view of the situation and that view got you upset. That's interesting.
Clent··on Amazon strategised about keeping water use secret
Almond milk is 2% almond. Cow milk is 100% cow milk.

An gallon of raw almonds requires a massive amount of water.

Using numbers to create illusions of comparison is the marketing equivalent of parsley in your tooth.

Clent··on Some users have noticed settings that let Meta analyze and retain phone photos
Agreed. The feature set is in desperate need of the search option both on approved photos and when attempting to approve additional photos. Very often I have to go into the photos app, find the photo, make a mental record of approximately where it is in history and scroll scroll scroll. Obnoxious and cumbersome.
Clent··on Wild pigs' flesh turning neon blue in California
Look at that blue sky through sun glasses. It may longer be blue to you but I assure you the sky is still blue to everyone else.
Clent··on Why the rich paid less tax in the 1970s – despite 98% tax rates
I find it quite strange than we know admit the randomness of the economies feedback but accept that with today's advanced data collection and powerful modeling absolutely no surprised have developed and the randomness remains.

Very peculiar.

Economic theory is showing itself to be more a dogma than a science.

Clent··on Charging electric vehicles 5x faster in subfreezing temps
People who experience range anxiety have an internalized incentive to seek out these options.
Clent··on What made the Irish famine so deadly
The problem is it compares humans to wild animals. If you feed wild animals they'll see you as a food source and often expect you'll continue to feed them forever.

The question then is do you agree (certain) people are wild animals.

If so are you too not a wild animal and if not, what makes you special?

Clent··on You're not a senior engineer until you've worked on a legacy project (2023)
It feels like you're just finding other ways to describe people who are senior in title only which is far too common. Any senior that uses their title to justify a 'you can't tell me way to do attitude, is a senior in title only.

I think the term is the issue. Senior development means something more intrinsic than it does in other title, like a senior manager. I think what we're attempting to define is something closer to seasoned developer.

Clent··on Younger cannabis users have reduced brain function, finds largest study yet
I wasn't meaning to argue anything beyond perhaps bringing to light how naïve these studies are. We don't count alcohol consumption this way. Is someone that smokes once per week for 20 years a heavy user? Would anyone consider someone that drinks once per week for 20 years a heavy drinker?

Why do these studies assume weed is cumulative but alcohol isn’t? Is it because most researchers have experience with being drunk but zero to little experience with being high on weed?

It seems likely there is a difference between someone who is buzzed all day every day for years vs someone that smokes several times each weekend, but these studies all group them together as one. Most likely because the researchers don't understand what they are studying and produce results that do not match the lived experience of their research subjects.

Clent··on Younger cannabis users have reduced brain function, finds largest study yet
It's 1100 times not days.

Anyone who smokes every couple of hours is averaging around 8 times a day and hits that in under five months.

People who do not smoke weed have no idea how heavy, heavy really is.

Clent··on Recreating Delicious Library in 2025?
I created a similar product to Delicious Library years before its launch and peer to peer version of it was the direction I had been planning to take it. This was all long before mobile devices, long before Apple SDK's had any support for syncing such data, etc but the idea was there and wasn't just mine, I had users requesting this as well.

But alas the revenue dried up with Delicious Library hitting the scene. It received crazy levels of press about how beautiful it was. I recall feeling at the time like they were paying the press to cover their product but knowing what I know now, I'm quite certain that was the case. The reviews never mentioned any competitors. There were several all at a cheaper prices with more tons more features.
