But it's always going to happen. Same with the upvotes/downvotes. People will flag a post or downvote a comment they don't like, whether or not it happens to be true, relevant or accurate. The secret is not to let it bother you. At the end of the day your karma ratings here are just "internet points" and flagging or downvoting are just people proclaiming that "Someone is wrong on the internet!". It really is no different to Twitter or Reddit, in that regard. We just like to delude ourselves we're a cut above those kind of sites.
Or am I misremembering? I've never used the feature myself [if it exists outside of my fevered imagination]
EDIT: Just checked on my Android phone. In the contacts app, I can bring up someone's contact info > click Details icon > then Share > choose VCF or text > and then, choose Bluetooth as the sharing option and send it to another device. Yes, it's a bit of a faff, but it is there and is built-in.
So that'll be an impartial claim then.
That's one advantage of browsing by the default frontpage: your fellow HNers have pre-filtered what ends up there, for you. It's also the disadvantage.
>So, it might not be what you personally want. But to a lot of people, it’s more important to read/consume something popular...
Count me in the "don't care" group. Which is why I always browse HN by "New" [0]. I neither know nor care which stories have been voted to prominence on the default frontpage, nor how this ranking has been determined. I just want to see what's new and select for myself what looks interesting. >To be eligible to apply for early access to the Free Tier Program, accounts must have the following:
>Credit Card
>To be eligible for a Free Tier instance you must have a regular credit card on file with us. Prepaid cards are not an acceptable payment type for Free Tier eligibility, neither is PayPal, Crypto, etc.
Er... no thanks. Why do you need my credit card if it's free?Over 60% of articles read like they were written by AI.
Slightly less snarky response:
I think it's odd that so many people fear AI stealing their writing jobs. I think I have a pretty good feel for when an article has been written by AI. Although, to be fair, there are enough crappy sausage meat listicles written by humans that read the same.
The big failing, as I see it, is that [at present] AIs are programmed to provide balanced "pros and cons" type neutral output. But, the reality is that many people don't want to read balance and neutrality. They want their own prejudices reinforced. Hence why people read newspapers / watch news channels / etc. that reflect their own political biases. Or hang about on social media with people who think like they do.
Until AI writers can respond to a prompt with "Yes, you're right. <insert object of hate> is a complete fucking waste of space...!" it's always going to produce insipid and uninspiring articles --even if they are "factually accurate".
>provide a reputation signal within the community for other users...
But you can't see other users' karma... unless you go digging into their profiles. So it doesn't really provde any readily visible indication of reputation. >How much land is included in each US $49.99 plot?
>Each plot is one square foot in size.
So, with 43,560 square feet in an acre, that works out at over $2M an acre. Pretty good return on your investment in a plot of bogland. In fact, it's so well-known I thought your post was announcing a new release of that, til I saw "musical" in the title.
>strings /Volumes/Zed/Zed.app/Contents/MacOS/zed | grep rust
returns a load of references to 'rustc' and 'cargo'EDIT: Just had a look inside the app bundle to see if they were using Electron again. Looks like this is built round WebRTC instead.
EDIT2: Actually the actual 'zed' binary is just under 284MB, so maybe Zed's not built round the WebRTC framework, but just uses it for networky stuff ???
The binary is pretty big by itself.
"Get woke go broke" --as the Gab-loons would say.
Why do people, who can't write grammatical English, insist on "translating" article titles?
What can you do against a brainwashed and totally unquestioning populace who believe that their country is always in the right? I'ts like trying to argue logic with a Flat-Earther.
Amazing how such an ethical and morally upstanding country has been involved in some kind of war / invasion / conflict / bombimg campaign, continuously since the end of WW2. [0] It must be the rest of the world picking on you all the time.

Oh. I agree with you there. Do you know any good ones? >seems to indicate that a non-American is accusing a non-American of being an American....
Aye. But there's so many American poodles in Europe, it's hard to tell the difference.Love the downvotes by the way. If only downvoting a fact you don't want to hear could somehow make it not true any more!
I also didnt mention the US's strafing of the retreating Iraqui army during the Gulf War either [0]. Who can forget the photos of the destroyed columns of vehicles, heading back to Iraq and the soldiers burned to death in their retreating trucks? It'll be interesting to see the howls of outrage from the Americans [and poodles] if Ukraine withdraws from Bakhmut and the Russians shell their retreating forces.
Talk about pots and kettles!

>The biggest mask off moment was when Russia targeted civilian electricity and heating infrastructure...
Yeah. What bastards they are. Thank god we'd never stoop to those levels:https://www.hrw.org/reports/2003/usa1203/4.5.htm#_ftnref99

>Electrical Power Facilities
>The United States targeted electrical power distribution facilities, but not generation facilities, throughout Iraq, according to a senior CENTCOM official. He told Human Rights Watch that instead of using explosive ordnance, the majority of the attacks were carried out with carbon fiber bombs designed to incapacitate temporarily rather than to destroy.100 Nevertheless, some of the attacks on electrical power distribution facilities in Iraq are likely to have a serious and long-term detrimental impact on the civilian population.
>Electrical power was out for thirty days after U.S. strikes on two transformer facilities in al-Nasiriyya.101 Al-Nasiriyya 400 kV Electrical Power Transformer Station was attacked on March 22 at 6:00 a.m. using three U.S. Navy Tomahawk cruise missiles outfitted with variants of the BLU-114/B graphite bombs.102 These dispense submunitions with spools of carbon fiber filaments that short-circuit transformers and other high voltage equipment upon contact.
----Oh, wait. That's "whataboutism" isn't it? That handy defence which means you're not allowed to point that the accuser has committed exactly the same crimes as the accused.
