The scholarship is for students who would choose a certain program/specialization relevant for our industry and includes a paid summer internship at our company after their 2nd or 3rd year of study. Having mentored some of these students when they were interns (capable and bright students with promising futures), they said that this scholarship helped them choose this career path whereas otherwise they may have just tried to get into tech like many others at that university.
Note this was not in the USA but in New Zealand where we have a different colonial history we are reckoning with. The scholarship targeted women, Maori (our indigenous culture), and Pacific Islanders (a large ethnic minority in NZ). This less about meeting any ratios or quotas (we didn't have those), but rather we felt a distinct lack of e.g. Maori voices in our company and the industry which is a problem when you are frequently interacting with Maori stakeholders and landowners in energy project development (and indigenous relations and historical landonwership plays a large role in our consenting & planning process).
But that's the thing, it's not a hill to die on for him. This is simply 'anti-woke' virtue signalling intended to show his alignment with the growing right-wing sentiments that seem to be a backlash to certain perceptions of the American left-wing, without really contributing anything novel to the discourse. To me, this 'anti-woke' sentiment is as much of a mind-virus as 'wokeness' supposedly is, and it's a convenient distraction from many of the underlying issues that the 'woke left' actually care about.

I believe that's incorrect. See Plex Pass, and Plex shares are a common form of sharing pirated content.
Not to mention that once you could add your own texture packs it became a user choice as to which graphical style they wanted.
This is why proper driver's licensing & training is so important - in my city & country (Wellington, New Zealand) roundabouts (as well call them) are so common that in some tight intersections they are nothing more than a circle painted on the ground. Everyone knows how to use them, and they end up being very effective.
As someone that is outside of the tech industry, the fact that this is seen as an abnormal approach seems quite ridiculous.
Yeah I don't think this take is accurate, my employer (state-owned, largest utility in my country) issues Surface laptops to many employees so I think there is likely significant enterprise use of these.
I do agree that this refresh seems like a renewed effort to compete in the consumer space though.
> Q: If I make a derivative work based on your project (e.g. use your library), would I need to also include your terms of use in my own project?
> A: No, you don't have to do that. But I won't stop you if you want to.
If so, I don't see how this is any different. If not, that's a pretty narrow definition of realtime given the context.
Exactly - laughed at first but it quickly made sense if they are prioritizing decent webcam quality. Before my M1 Pro 14 I had a Dell XPS 13 that also had tiny bezels but squeezed the camera into the very thin top bezel. The result was a terrible webcam that I gladly traded for a notch and a better camera quality.
However, that Dell did still fit Windows Hello (face unlock) capability into that small bezel, so the absence of FaceID despite having the notch is a bit shit.
