QA engineer. I test software for a living and build tools for annoyances I get tired of working around.

Currently maintaining ChannelFence, an open-source Chrome extension for persistent YouTube creator blocking.

ChannelFence··on I launched on Product Hunt and all I got was spam email
>How is your Chrome extension going these days?

Slow progress, but better than what product hunt made it look :) 10 active users on the chrome store, but even a small amount of strangers installing and keeping it feels way more real than that snake bullshit I saw upvoted.

I launched a chrome extnsion there and had almost the same experience. One of the products above me was where startups literally pay to become pieces of a snake and move toward the head. Whoever pays the most gets the head and so on and so on. It had 73 upvotes. Super scammy shit being upvoted was a sign of bots to me, so I wouldn't take it seriously. The site seemed kind of shitty to me.
ChannelFence··on FIDE and World Chess apply for the .chess domain extension
check@mate.chess will be an extremely valuable email
ChannelFence··on P99 0 ms* autocomplete for 240M domain names
its pretty clever but what happns when someone pastes a domain or uses IME or voice input? the api being that fast is still impressive.
ChannelFence··on “I just chose words carefully”
Before LLMs, there were Markov chain bots. We used SeeBorg on IRC and over time its dictionary would fill up with whatever everyone said. Most of it was nonsense, but every once in a while it would say something perfectly timed. Almost everything It said making sense or not was hilarious though.

ChannelFence··on Bug Blindness
the people without a model are also the easiest users to lose, they won't file a bug or explain what broke. they'll just click twice, decide the product is unreliable and use something else. then the team sees no bug report and assumes everything is fine.
ChannelFence··on Meta's Push to Put Robots to Work in Data Centers
so the robots will end up making things worse and it'll still require on site calls for maintenance. sounds like money well spent, mark.
ChannelFence··on Our decision on Cursor following its acquisition by SpaceX
i'll be surprised if anthropic doesnt follow. cursors biggest advantage has been giving users a polished wrapper around whichever frontier model they prefer
ChannelFence··on Our decision on Cursor following its acquisition by SpaceX
this is a pretty clean test of whether people were buying cursor or just using it for convenient access to whichever model was flavor of the week.

i work in qa so i'm naturally wary of adding another critical dependency to a development workflow, if the model you actually want can just disappear because two vendor change ownership or start argueing then the wrapper has to be really good on its own.

cursors harness and its own models may be good enough that users stay, and if they do cursor has a moat at least. if everyone follows the openai models out the door, it will just become a polished ui.

ChannelFence··on We found a division by zero bug in FFmpeg with a vibecoded fuzzer
I really wasn't trying to offer anything constructive. I was just pointing out something I found funny and made a joke about it. It wasn't anything more serious than that.
ChannelFence··on We found a division by zero bug in FFmpeg with a vibecoded fuzzer
Why is it a bad thing I found this funny?

Two months and 1.1k+ commits to rediscover an already known bug IS funny. That doesn't mean I hate the person or want to discredit their work. You're reading way too much into a comment :)

ChannelFence··on We found a division by zero bug in FFmpeg with a vibecoded fuzzer
4 now lol. why would my karma matter anyway?

this isnt reddit

ChannelFence··on Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash
I'm getting model fatigue at this point. Impressive pace, but fucking exhausting to follow.
ChannelFence··on We found a division by zero bug in FFmpeg with a vibecoded fuzzer
Two months and 1100+ commits to rediscover a bug that was already found in 2024 is probably the funniest possible ending to a "vibecoded fuzzer" story.
