ChRoss··on Firefox update policy: the enterprise is wrong, not Mozilla
Sometime it's not significant break, but some little difference may cause many support calls logged, depends on the organization size. And I believe many organization are still using legacy system.
ChRoss··on Advice From An Old Programmer
Your post reminds me to time when I did my first freelance project. I want to create software/applications that people can use, and can make their life easier.

Thank you Zed.

ChRoss··on Why no looting in Japan?
I'm not a Japanese, but I will say it's because of their Bushido spirit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bushido
ChRoss··on Mark Zuckerberg is Person of the Year? Where's the "dislike" button?
I would only see chaos. Politics are dirty in nature. When you go into politics, basically, you should be ready to dirty your hand.

I wonder how Wikileaks would make politician honest. I correlate honest with lies. What Wikileaks exposed are not lies, they are secret data/info.

ChRoss··on Epic Animation Created Entirely in Google Docs
When I download the slide, it's 413 slides, not 450.
ChRoss··on Leaving .Net
I'm sorry for that, I guess I missed out that details since the topic is about .NET.

definitely several thousand leaps above ASP/VBScript

But still, I disagree with the choice of words in your comment. I used VS Interdev for classic ASP debugging in the past, and I find it sufficient enough. Yes, I'm sure there are other IDE/tools which can do more than Interdev, but I don't think it will be several thousand leaps.

ChRoss··on Leaving .Net
ASP/VBScript

Are you referring to classic ASP? VS (for .NET) has great debugging features.

So if a robber give you the money they just robbed in other country, means you are free to use them?
ChRoss··on Daring Fireball: Apple's Pricing Advantage
Can you also add the cost for becoming Apple Developer then?
ChRoss··on Google sues feds over Microsoft-centric bidding requirement
I completely agree with your argument for giving fair consideration. But put this aside, customer have the rights to choose their desired platform right? And since this is for government, they should have valid reason with their choice.
ChRoss··on Are You A Pirate?
So Robin Hood (if he really exist) is hero or thieves?
ChRoss··on The quest for freedom and safety: Why I donated $100,000 to YesOn19
Well I'm not sure if they can grow it. But, isn't that mean you're going to provide a legal way for the cartel to make money? Now they can sell in legal market, and sure more people will be able to consume it since it's legal now, and the cartel will make 'more' money?

My previous question is actually to find out what kind of measurement, precaution or whatever it is, to make sure that Prop19 will cripple drug cartels, without creating another problem.

ChRoss··on The quest for freedom and safety: Why I donated $100,000 to YesOn19
Sorry for my ignorance, since I'm living in Asia, and I have never deal with drugs, so my knowledge are basically from news.

How is this Prop19 will 'surely' change everything? Especially related to drug cartel.

ChRoss··on Ramen May Lead to Chronic Illness Study Says
Is this ramen that is usually served in Japanese restaurant, or instant noodle? I think they are very different.
ChRoss··on Firesheep usage leads to Idiocy
I understand the intention is to warn people. But IMO, there are plenty ways of warning or educating them, e.g. blogs, tweets etc. There's no need to 'prove' it just to make awareness.

I did tell my friends and family that a tool (Firesheep) has been released and what is the impact in layman language, and inform them to be careful when browsing through open wifi networks.

ChRoss··on Should Kids Be Paid to Do Well in School?
For research sake, I think it's worth to try. As for whether it's going to be implemented, it needs to be analyzed and planned properly. Don't make children think it's so easy to earn money.

I think the problem with nowadays education is they are very bounded with curriculum. Schools shouldn't be a place just to learn, but also to have fun, socialize, make friends.

ChRoss··on Ask HN: Anyone else doing a non-software startup?
My friends and I run a franchised food stall. After few months, we learned that manpower management is very critical as the turnover rate is very high in this business. Also stock management, to save operation cost.
ChRoss··on Microsoft Buying Adobe?
The development suites: Visual Studio, plus those all CAL licensing fee.
ChRoss··on Developers blog post: No, I won’t do it. It would not be professional.
Unfortunately, most of the time, we are not the decision maker, especially if the requestor is of high rank (either from internal or external user with ranked M - SM,GM,MD etc). Even though I explain this and that, in the end, they will just say "Can do? When will you deploy it?"
ChRoss··on Chrome Binary Size
I use WinDirStat for Windows http://windirstat.sourceforge.net/
ChRoss··on Ask HN: what does Microsoft sell that you can't get for free?
When you're using gmail, you also dependent on the internet connection. And my opinion, for business email, having abc@yourcompany.com looks better than abc@gmail.com
ChRoss··on How bathroom posture affects your health.
I think it's affected with whether you're skinny person or not. Skinny people are easier to squat on heels, as they have smaller flesh/muscle.

I observe football players have difficulty in squatting on heels.

ChRoss··on IPhone to Droid-X: Lots to Like
iOS4 is just horrible in my 3GS. I hit "App low memory" error during my first hour of use, and now I need to clean apps in App switch manager to free up some RAM when the phone feel sluggish. It gives me additional thing to do. I only like the folder feature.
ChRoss··on Should Developers have Access to Production?
This is what I'm experiencing. As in application team, I'm supporting a reporting app whose users are CO or D. I have zero access to the production app, to the server, and to the data. Reason given was because of the data sensitivity. But realistically, the test data comes from production data, so what is the conclusion there?

I'm having hard time to ensure if the data is correctly processed every month, since I have no access at all.

Note: the app was done by other people and was handed over to my team.

ChRoss··on How Apple Took The Fun Out of Owning an iPhone
I don't have iPhone 4, and can't say much how is the performance. But according to my experience, it's software issue (memory management). After upgrading my 3GS to iOS, my daily task is to kill all apps in the multitasking bar when it feel sluggish. I can check from iMemGraph, the free memory is increased substantially.
ChRoss··on High Ground Maneuver (Scott Adams on the iPhone 4 press conference)
Overblown or not, the product still have the flaw. I think what the media expected is Apple to admit the flaw, and not pushing the responsibility to customer by holding it another way or buy bumper.

In auto industry, Toyota, Honda and others admit their product have flaw, and do a recall.

ChRoss··on HTC 1
I like the stand idea also. But, does it mean I need to remove the case/bumper if I want to stand it?
ChRoss··on The power of Apple's FaceTime commercial
I think to be fair, in order to use FaceTime: both parties have to sign up to certain provider, buy iPhone4 (we're talking as per current. What will happen in future, who knows?)

By the way, as I don't have iPhone4, I curious about this scenario, what will happen if I'm on FaceTime chat with someone, and another people call my number? Will the call go through and the FaceTime chat dropped?

ChRoss··on The App Store is for Suckers
You missed one thing: to pay the people who (check and) approve the apps submission.
ChRoss··on The difference between iPhone + Android: Great since day one
This is my own experience. Every user have different needs and preference.

My previous phone was Dopod with Windows Mobile 5 since 2005 (very long time huh). And during my first month using iPhone 3GS, I've been struggling using it (and iTunes). There are times when I want to use back my old phone.
