A question that always comes up when I see these "Heroku-like" replacements on top of AWS/GCP/Azure is who is the target user?
A couple years ago, you would have platform teams helping developers launch their stuff. Since then, AWS has tried to make things easier through services like App Runner. Nowadays, if you don't want to manage the instances yourself, you just use a managed service. Platform teams are essentially dead.
It's not 2016 anymore and developers should know how their code runs. Trying to "protect" them from infrastructure only hinders their pace long term.
My wife uses Marco Polo a lot with her family. It's a great way for them to maintain an async conversation. I think for group no larger than five people, it makes a lot of sense.
Is social audio dead? No. I do think that the market size is definitely a lot smaller.
It's one thing to ask for support for humanitarian aid purposes (such as fundraising to distribute food, helping someone's family get out, etc.), it's another to exploit the war to grow your business.
When the war started, I had numerous cold emails from Ukrainian businesses offering services (primarily outsourced marketing, design, software engineering) with the first paragraph containing emotionally charged, guilt-tripping statements. Those emails started to cause me to have some resentment and I marked them as junk. I will not be pushed to support a business that's trying to guilt trip me, regardless of what's happening.
War is bad, majority of world supports the Ukrainian side. I pray for the conflict to be over soon.
For the last eight years, they've been riling up the Russian population with portraying Ukrainians as Nazis, barbarians, etc. It's gotten to the point now where they would make up fake stories (e.g. crucified boy). Right now, during the war - you literally can't call it a "war" or you might face being sentenced. If you share anything opposing the official view - you could get 15 years behind bars. Russian government has also forced all "opposition" media to shutdown in the last couple of days. Soon, they will annex themselves from the internet and the population will only have one source for news - the propaganda channels.
For my next startup, I will try to bootstrap as much as I can first, and then pay myself a livable salary so that I'm not distracted by looking for others sources of income / radically downgrading my lifestyle.

Waiting for the obligatory Dropbox comment here.
My partner on the other hand has no desire for us to get vaxxed because they know people personally who have died after getting the shots. We also know many who died from getting COVID. We're not anti-vax people generally, our kids are all got regular shots but with this, we decided to skip it for the time being. Knowing this, we intentionally wear masks when needed and try to operate safely and give distance.
I think the US government failed in communicating properly and now with the approach of "shunning the unvaxxed", it's only causing further divide and a lot of my conservative friends will now never get it as a way to spite the government orders.
I think at the end of the day, Web3, like VR, will have certain use cases that will make sense but won't have a huge effect on majority of the population.
My personal worldview - at the end of the day, we're human and should see others as humans who make mistakes and give enough grace for them to try to improve.
Majority of gen Z / millennial folks that I know, don't care about Trevor Noah or any of the late night comedians. They care more about famous YouTubers and TikTok stars.
