CedarMadness··on EU fines Asus, Denon-Marantz, Philips and Pioneer $130M for online price fixing
You don't need 4k for that, just lens-shift. Most mid-range 1080p projectors have at least vertical lens-shift these days, and even low end 4k projectors are still >$1000
CedarMadness··on The Effect of Sleep on Happiness
There's a Garmin app that connects with Sleep as Android, although I haven't had good luck with it on my Fenix watch. https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/e80a4793-f5a3-44c7-bd7f-5...
CedarMadness··on ‘Star Citizen’ Court Case Reveals the Messy Reality of Crowdfunding a $200M Game
I feel like this is generally fair, but things that get pushed back from one patch to the next shouldn't count as broken promises. It seems disingenuous to count "3.2 didn't have mining, it's been pushed to 3.3" on the same level as "we said you'd be able to run your own server with mods, but now you can't". Maybe you need another category for Delayed
CedarMadness··on Inside Nintendo’s “perfect” method for detecting online Switch piracy
I think as long as two systems aren't playing the same copy at the same time, they wouldn't do any banning. So lending and rentals should still be acceptable.
CedarMadness··on Reddit partial outage
It's really the natural outcome of any "X Alternative" site. Anyone that gets banned from X goes to the alternative, and anyone else has no reason to go, because X still works for them. So X Alternative fills up with horrible users, and even more nobody wants to go there.
CedarMadness··on George Soros: Facebook and Google are a menace to society
What do you mean? DDG uses the Bing api for its results, not Google.
CedarMadness··on From kafkatrap to honeytrap
They're pretty right wing, and some of their articles are questionably sourced.
CedarMadness··on Things men have actually said to me at tech events
I don't think toolz was trying to say "boys will be boys", I think toolz was saying we should try to fix society, rather than pretend this is only a problem in tech
CedarMadness··on A loophole in immigration law is costing thousands of American jobs
I had to clean up after the mess Infosys made of a client's code a few years ago. It was horrible. There were few comments, most of them made little sense, and the code was a spaghetti mess. A complete rewrite would have been cheaper in the long run. That said, I've seen code written by Americans that was just as bad. The bottom of the barrel anywhere isn't a good choice.
CedarMadness··on The Open Plan Office and the Extrovert Ideal
Beyer Dynamics Dt770 is extremely comfortable, but you'll need an amp. The isolation isn't quite as good as the HD 380 Pro.

The ATH-M50 is a popular choice, but I haven't personally tried them.

CedarMadness··on The Open Plan Office and the Extrovert Ideal
Sennheisers tend to clamp down pretty hard. Especially the 280's and 380's. Maybe another brand would work better.
CedarMadness··on More from the Sony Pictures hack
Companies love to use sharepoint for this. There's decent integration with MS Office, but it's still huge pain to use. Usually it involves multiple full time sharepoint "developers" to make it do what you want.
CedarMadness··on Nexus 6
Have a look at the Xperia Z3 Compact. Sony seem to be the only ones that care about battery life at this point.
CedarMadness··on We paid $634 million for the Obamacare sites and all we got was this lousy 404
CGI Federal is run mostly independently to get around the laws preventing foreign companies from bidding on US government contracts. Source: I used to work there.
CedarMadness··on A Real Keyboard for Programmers?
It just launched, does anyone even have one yet?
CedarMadness··on Don't Get Pwned on Public WiFi: Use Your Own VPN
Back in the 2.3 days, Android had OpenVPN support (or maybe it was just a CyanogenMod feature). I wish that would come back.
CedarMadness··on All three major Russian carriers dump iPhone
You still have the radio firmware, which is closed source and can't be changed. That's where I'd expect snooping back doors to be located.
CedarMadness··on Flippant.js - A mini JS and CSS library for flipping things over
The initial flip isn't animating correctly every time in Firefox. Half the time it flips over too quickly to see any animation. Flipping back to the original content looks alright though.
CedarMadness··on Linode Nextgen: The Network
Ah, I see. I use Arch on Digital Ocean, and I've had a pretty good experience, aside from their initial image being a bit old (I had to change its settings to use netcfg and systemd).
CedarMadness··on Linode Nextgen: The Network
I never used Linode for Arch, what do differently that makes it better than others?
CedarMadness··on Highcharts 3.0 Beta released
I'm using jqplot: http://www.jqplot.com/
CedarMadness··on C11: A New C Standard Aiming at Safer Programming
The big problem with C99 was that MS refused to implement it. If C11 is going to take off, it will depend on MS updating their C compiler. Previously they have said that they don't support C development on Windows except on the device driver level, and would prefer everyone use C++ or one of the .NET languages, so I'm not hopeful about C11's chances.
CedarMadness··on How To Make An iPhone App That Actually Sells
Not sure about IOS, but on Android, you can go to the Top Grossing[1] section to see which apps make the most money.

CedarMadness··on Visual Studio '11' Announced
