Also, they say they've been here a couple of years, and their account is nearly six months old. Then the first post is asking for karma.
So still, perhaps it's harsh, perhaps you're willing to upvote the submission to give them that karma - no doubt others will - but I still ask the question.

But since then you've submitted it multiple times to no discussion at all:

So I'm interested to know - why are you submitting this repeatedly?
If someone comes along, sits on one side, drinks beer, watches the work, and contributes nothing, should they get a free meal? Are they part of the community? Should they be welcomed and accepted despite not contributing at all?
That's an interesting question - your reply has prompted me to think more about that. That's valuable to me, and worth an upvote.
It appears that his "definition" of pi depends on each circle drawn. In other words, he has no single definition, and "the" value depends on the measurement taken in each case. So again, in other words, he doesn't actually have a single value.
So it's a diverting philosophical ramble, but for me it's been pretty close to a complete waste of time. I'd be interested to know if anyone here on HN thinks otherwise, and in particular, why anyone would think it's worth upvoting.
Give me a good reason and I'll consider upvoting you.
Provide value.
Alternatively, as masonic says, open the discussion in the new tab and click through from there.
So if someone asks you what time it is, give them the answer in Zulu time. When they look confused, explain.
Then you'll have to work out what time - Zulu time - you have your breakfast, and your lunch, and your evening meal. So suddenly you'll be having breakfast at, say, 12:00 Zulu. Does that help? How does it help?
So I want to phone you - how do I know what time to call? Any time after breakfast? Cool - what time do you have breakfast?
So, are you instead going to synchronise your day to mine? I sure as heck aren't going to go to bed when the Sun is at its peak and get up a little after it has set. Would you do that?
This comes up every year or so on HN and I honestly just don't understand the mind-set of people who suggest it. I'd seriously like to know how you would address the above, and how you can see this possibly working.
Don't tell me what I am and am not allowed to feel based on my experience.
So you keep believing everything is ok, I'm sure it makes you feel better, rather than actually listening to other people's stories.
Other hints still welcome.
So I read it in lynx.
To make this genuinely appropriate to the HN audience, do you think carefully about the performance of your site? I now have deliberately avoided "theweek.com" and all its ads, etc, for the text only browsing experience, where I could read the article cleanly and simply. I'm sure that's not what their site developers intended.
Then again, maybe it's just me.

I've read a of of that discussion, and I'm deeply disappointed at the quality. There's pretty much nothing there that actually addresses the issues and questions.
Very disappointing.
Isn't "connecting" on LinkedIn irrevocable?

The Reddit discussion is not necessarily all that deep, it has a lot of people arguing past each other without defining their terms, but it will introduce you to other points of view.

Not everyone is happy with asking someone who is encroaching on their space to move. You may feel this isn't a problem. My observations tell me it is.
Would you believe that?
This leads me to believe that you haven't actually see it in action, and I wonder how much you travel on public transport. Absolutely it is a problem - I can't tell you how often my physical space has been unnecessarily "spread into" by this sort of thing.
> ... it would affect men more than women since men are generally speaking physically larger than women.
My observation is that men simply don't "manspread" into another man's space. It's very much a dominance thing. It's ugly, it's obnoxious, and it's borderline threatening.
I have no faith that this initiative will have any effect, but it most definitely is an issue.
