CarlosT··on 37 YC Companies have valuations of or been sold for at least $40 Million
Don't know. However, $40M valuation implies 7% of YC companies have revenue run rates greater than ~$2.7M per year (i.e. assuming a price of ~15x revenue) In other words, 93% of YC companies have not made it to ~$2.7M per year in revenue.
CarlosT··on You Can Now Call Into Google+ From Regular Phones
oops.I forgot a step. Step 3: Click "Invite people". Step 4: "add a phone number".
CarlosT··on You Can Now Call Into Google+ From Regular Phones
Hack: You can still make outgoing calls using Google Voice/Hangouts

1. In Gmail type in your name into the "start a hangout" box 2. In Hangout window click on "add telephone". 3. type in phone number you want to call. 4. Call.

CarlosT··on The Internet Didn’t Kill the Middle Class; Laxity and Apathy Did
People don't want "jobs", they want "income". It is individuals that will need to own these future assets, like 3D printers to insure they have income.

In response to: "Otherwise we would do well to imagine and plan for a near-term future in which all manufacturing and most construction around the world is replaced by 3D printers. Our kids and grandkids may be reduced to futures in direct competition with a global employment pool of poorly compensated printer designers, printer operators, and printer repairmen, where lowest cost energy as a factor in production reigns supreme"

CarlosT··on Could HN stop participating in the witchhunt?
Everybody hates a witch hunt until they see a witch. "Witch!"

CarlosT··on No Housing Bubble Trouble (2005)
Sounds like a good startup idea: A crowdsourced CPI.

Google maps inside grocery stores: Use video in phones to capture UPC and price per unit in grocery store aisles.

This way true inflation can be measured, instead of only tracking certain products, and excluding others.

CarlosT··on What does one trillion dollars look like?
Exactly. Since 50% of high growth companies are funded with less than $50,000, $1 trillion would fund the start of 20M young high growth companies. Fairly certain at least one of those, 20M, would have solved the financial crisis.

In other related news, as of a couple of years ago, my town has a beautiful new landscaped highway median, welcoming you as you enter the city.

CarlosT··on San Francisco zoning: Needs more density and tall buildings
Instead of lobbying, or fighting policy (the old way) hack together a crowdsourced version of a future San Francisco, and let the people chose how they want the city to look 400 years from now.

Something similar to the Manhattan Project, in New York, but instead of looking back 400 years, look forward 400 years.

The Manhattan Project, gives a mapped 400 year history of New York. One can watch the TED below.

CarlosT··on Nationwide Google Fiber would cost $11B over five years
A collective action startup could help solve the problem for neighborhoods wanting FTTH. In a Groupon/Kickstarter model, each house commits ~$3,000 toward a goal. When 250 households in a neighborhood commit and collectively commit ~$750,000 (i.e. $3,000 x ~250 homes) then sub contractors lay the fiber in the neighborhood.

As an aside, the Australian government spent ~$4,000 per household to connect each house to FTTH.
