So do Facebook and Instagram, I’m sure.
The level of paranoia in the Valley is astounding.
Is there another model that has had similar success?
They aren't operating a charity. You also left our hotels, airlines, etc. United Airlines makes $$ by signing up members for the United Cards by Chase.
Regardless, they presumably maintain a Facebook presence because that’s where people are, but that’s not where you have to be. Shocking, I know.
HN just has an unhealthy obsession with Facebook.
Get over it already.
Yes, people use Facebook. No, you don't have to.
Edit: yes, please downvote this comment. Let the HN naval gazing continue.
The press would skewer them alive and politicians will have a field day about tech companies violating privacy and sharing data.
On the value spectrum (high to low): - Equifax - very little but very high value data - Google - Search, Gmail, location, browsing, apps and time spent on them - Facebook/Twitter - my posts from high school and photos of me trying to look cool
Interestingly, I think Reddit could build a much scarier profile on me based on what I read and what I upvote.
You haven't bothered to read the source, haven't bothered to understand what the context is, and haven't even bothered to see that there is no mention of WhatsApp in the talk.
Ducking tired of click bait and people who ducking reward it.
:face-palm:
Schultz is no longer the CEO of the company and it is easy for Starbucks to distance themselves from his campaign. A simple press release: "Howard was a great founder and we wish him well in his future endeavors".
Additionally, media should refer to him as: "Howard Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks." That makes it clear that the two are no longer affiliated.
They don't have to _collect_ it. They can say that we have access to it but will only collect it when you use a related product.

Google buys your credit card purchase data. Did you give it that? Why do you think Google wants you to stay logged into Chrome?
Let’s be honest here and call a spade a spade.
The world is just realizing how ads based business models work and there’s no difference between Google and Facebook.
This is exactly the flawed takeaway from this election.
Mainstream voters kept telling us that they are not optimistic about their economic future, they kept complaining about their jobs going overseas, they kept complaining about immigration and our response was: ”it is better for you”.
We lost 2016 and will lose 2020.
Political advertising has existed for a long time. In news papers, radio, tv, and on social media. Most advertisers and political ad agencies will tell you that pschographic targeting isn’t useful at all. The only thing that works is raise money or “get out the vote” campaigns.
Is it really so hard to believe that people didn’t like Hillary and didn’t think that another 8 years of the same would be good for them?
In my opinion, Reddit could have had a greater influence than either Facebook or Twitter. On Facebook, the Russians ran ads and they used bots on Twitter but in both of those cases the total reach was probably less than Reddit’s reach.
Also, while we are scrutinizing Facebook and Twitter (rightly), it is time that Reddit (the fourth most popular site) should also have to explain what it is doing.
“Reddit’s The_Donald Was One Of The Biggest Havens For Russian Propaganda“ (72 characters)
Unless you meant something else.
Telecom companies don't have any incentive to fix this.
Unclear at this time but seems like the bug existed in 9.2.1 but now is more widespread with 9.3.
Exact behavior: a Google search results page loads but you can't click through to any of the results.
I can reproduce the behavior both in Safari and in Facebook, which uses WKWebView.
