Co-pilot: The last question I was asked was about the height of Mount Everest in terms of bananas.
Looks like a canned response.
That's an overly charitable interpretation of what he's doing.
The pattern that I've observed is: 1) he's a narcissist who always wants to be in the news and/or 2) he's trying to distract from something.
He can't stand it when the press moves on from him. His MO is to wait for a week or two and then throw out something outlandish to suck up the media oxygen.
He and Trump are very similar people.
As someone who works on integrity for a small ad platform, I can tell you that there is no way to prevent 100% of the bad things from going through. We are tiny and still deal with highly motivated bad actors.
Fwiw, Google has also had a problem with this and has paid half a billion in fines.

What’s the point of thinking that WhatsApp is e2ee if anyone can write their own end point?
my friends and I use WhatsApp because we know the messages are secure. Imagine if every other group message had the “green bubble” equivalent experience if someone was using a custom client.
I would love to hear a proposal around this. As an immigrant in the US, “social media” is my connection not only to people back home but also to my friends from junior high, high school, and college.
> Social media is, ipso facto, a bad thing.
It would be great if you could define what is social media.
Are chat threads social media? What about iMessage groups? What about various online? What about Digg / Reddit / 4chan?
The human need to connect isn’t going away.
Hint: Twitter, TikTok, VK-variant, or some government supported social network.
With Russia and China vying for influence, they’ll likely want to do everything possible to influence the replacements. It is unlikely that Victor Orban wouldn’t also want some control and tilt the scale in favor of something he controls.
I really wish Meta pulls out of EU.
Meta sees this as the way to improve their AI offerings faster than others and, eventually, better than others.
Instead of a small group of engineers working on this inside Meta, the Open Source community helps improve it.
They have a history of this with React, PyTorch, hhvm, etc. All these have gotten better as OS projects faster than Meta alone would have been able to do.
I would like to acknowledge companies that offer even partially open source models in hopes of convincing others to do the same.
My mortgage servicer has so much valuable data on me (PII, bank debit details, est. income, home value, loan amount, etc.).
We need companies to justify why they retain sensitive data vs deleting it right after using it.
As a buyer, I should be able to make an offer and work with the lender to schedule all the due diligence required. Some people need more help and they should be willing to pay for it.
However, the way it is structured today, I can’t make an offer without a realtor and have to pay some percentage of the value.
I was lucky in that I had an agent in the family and they charged a nominal fee.
I’ve heard about realtors being blacklisted for offering flat fee services.

I think the real issue probably is somewhere between retaliation and the desire to support a domestic competitor. China has long had a view that it can't be reliant on a foreign company and that's especially true for the tech sector.
Hasn’t the data shown that people don’t really change their minds based on what they read on social media?
I think you are underestimating all the other factors that probably had stat-sig influence on the elections.
Low voter turnout from some segments, broad voter disenfranchisement with both parties, media relentlessly pushing Trump to front and center because it drove ratings, Bernie Sanders’s voters sitting out as protest, etc. etc.
My nieces and nephews are constantly messaging each other. 95% of their usage is messaging. It is spread across several apps. Discord for gaming, IG for trends, TT for short videos, etc.
This is how they stay in touch with friends.
They aren’t obsessively doom scrolling, which I found quite interesting.
Not sure I agree with all the points but this agree that the proposal is madness.
The comparison to NRC is an apt one. NRC effectively killed nuclear energy in the US.
You are either deliberately making it sound more nefarious than it is or you didn’t read the article.
My guess is either shrinking demand for the conference (vs the cost) and or location desirability.
The article is about wealth taxes. In addition to income taxes, Norway has a wealth tax, which taxes net wealth above $170k (NOK 1.7M) at 1% [0]. So, if your net wealth is $200k, you are taxed 1% on $30k every year.
Separately, it is a myth that the wealthy don't pay taxes. This isn't Reddit. Wealthy pay taxes but they also maximize the value of any benefits already included in the tax code. AMT is an attempt to fix this but has its own problems.
Apollo could pass this on to their users as the fee for ads free Reddit experience.
This way their incentives are aligned with Apollo’s.
Both earn money and are incentivized to grow their user base.
Blanket bans, while sounding good, can slow down pace of innovation in an area that desperately needs more of it - esp as the world is aging.
This needs to be a combination of informed consent, clear access auditing and usage, and laws to heavily penalize misuse of this data.
They've moved the needle towards building their ads business. As hardware refresh cycles become longer, Apple is moving towards other sources of revenue, including ads.
These changes, while positioned as Privacy, give them a huge moat and in the end, harm consumers.
Before these changes, if an app wanted to drive installs on iOS, they could choose FB or Google. Now, Apple is the only game in town and their cost-per-install are already exceeding FB's last published cost-per-install.
The Apple consumers pay for this additional revenue to Apple.
A vulnerability found in Google’s implementation of SPF in Gmail. The company is prioritizing a fix.
YouTube plays full music content on their site and shows ads on top of it.
Whereas Facebook, Reddit, or Twitter link to the sites. You can’t consume that content in the same way that you can music videos on YouTube.
