CPLNTN··on U.S. Backs 15% Global Minimum Tax to Curb Profit Shifting Overseas
My two cent is that it’s just inevitable (and personally welcomed). Throughout the history, from tribes to today we have merged in bigger and bigger entities. And pretending that we can live without a global authority, when supply chains are global, food market are global, most of what happens in politics has global effect is total nonsense IMO. We pretend we live in separate societies with entirely different rules when we are already operating like a single, global organism.
CPLNTN··on Temptation of the Apple: Dolphin on macOS M1
This is interesting, often I’ve read the opposite point of view, people that would love MacOS on an XPS or iOS on a one plus. I guess that changed a lot in recent years, I remember in 2016 when the new MacBooks came out that they were a straight up bad deal. Nowadays, with the M1 is totally the opposite
CPLNTN··on Tim Cook’s Fortnite trial testimony was unexpectedly revealing
> Take away all the apps from iPhone and what is it? A brick Saying that Apple needs devs more than devs need Apple is as stupid as saying the opposite. Is the same chicken/egg game. They both coexist and no one can exist without the other. Do you really think that dev can just trash iPhone apps and send a middle finger to Apple? I’ll tell you why it’s BS: 1 - iPhone users are more willing to pay for an app than android users. Given that Google take the same cut, you are just going to shoot yourself in the foot having less users. 2 - The iOS market share even if not as big as the android one, it’s still huge compared to what WS Phone was at its peak. Do you really think your app is that important that the average user is gonna buy and entire new phone (with an OS that he potentially never used) just to use your app? 3 - If you think ALL the devs can leave Apple, to invalidate pt 2, you are delusional. The moment you leave the store, another dev is just gonna eat your user base and profit from it.

The success of the platform always goes around the user base, not the developers. Developers make money from users, so the developers follow the user, not the other way around.

CPLNTN··on Bitcoin Miners Are Giving New Life to Old Fossil-Fuel Power Plants
Until you can buy things with actual Bitcoin, its value is gonna be determined only by market sentiment. So yeah, hating it actually affect it
CPLNTN··on Woke at Work: Why tech firms are trying to run away from politics and failing
In his most recent blog post DHH said that the small group of people leaving Hey was offset by a lot of new customers for Basecamp
CPLNTN··on Are Angels More Likely Than VCs to Drive Entrepreneurial Experimentation? [pdf]
I had the same experience. A VC explicitly told me that he doesn’t fund any startup that is trying to create a new market, because he doesn’t know if that market actually exist and if it does he doesn’t know if it is profitable. Instead funding a startup that plays in an already existing market, as long as the startup does thing “better or in a unique way” is a much safer play.
