CDokolas··on Epiousios
This is an interesting source of info: https://lsj.gr/wiki/%E1%BC%90%CF%80%CE%B9%CE%BF%CF%8D%CF%83%...
CDokolas··on Books: an immutable double-entry accounting database service
Looks like they've discovered double-entry accounting...

...at last ;)

CDokolas··on A live map of marine traffic
Surprised to see people surprised of this site. It's been up for some years!
CDokolas··on Manfred Eigen, Nobel-winning chemist who clocked fast reactions, dies at 91
Unbreak doesn't work on WAPO!?
CDokolas··on The First Woman to Translate the ‘Odyssey’ into English
Greeks usualy translate "πολύτροπον" to the modern "πολυμήχανος"

CDokolas··on The Forgotten Mystery of Inertia
Is this serious scientific writing?

"[...] the gravitational force the Earth exerts on you is canceled out in a freely falling elevator" and "[...] it is impossible to distinguish acceleration from gravity"? Seriously?

Isn't acceleration the result of force? Isn't gravity a force? When you are in free fall you accelerate, gravity doesn't "cancel out"!

CDokolas··on FCC Takes Stronger Aim at Robocalls
I suspect that here in Europe you can't spoof caller ID :)
CDokolas··on Fidget Spinners: Why Being Interesting Can Do More for You Than Being Useful
Please correct the title. The actual article's title is different!
CDokolas··on Dawson – A Serverless Web Framework for Node.js on AWS
Does this reduce AWS charges in some way?
CDokolas··on Dgsh – Directed graph shell
Author's page: http://www.dmst.aueb.gr/dds/index.en.html
CDokolas··on Industry Concerns about TLS 1.3
Well, North Korea is not complaining about TLS 1.3, why would banks have to? Their proxy servers are already MITM platforms that meet their needs for security.
CDokolas··on Ori – Robotic transformation of interior spaces
Found it! The "HTTPS Everywhere" add-on causes this (may have something to do with CORS as well).
CDokolas··on Ori – Robotic transformation of interior spaces
same on FF 47 :(
CDokolas··on Yahoo Announces Public Disclosure of National Security Letters
It seems that the redacted text at the top left of every non-letterheaded page is probably "File No.NSL-XX-XXXXXX" (where the Xs stand for the actual numbers). The file/ref number is at the first page, under the FBI logo and is also mentioned at the end of the letter, for use instead of the letter's details. So, why redact it?
CDokolas··on Export your Hacker News saved links to CSV using only Chrome console
got it working with the following:

window.location=window.URL.createObjectURL(new Blob([localStorage.getItem('hn_saved')],{type:'x-whatever/x-backup'}));

file name is weird (I'm a JS newb!)

CDokolas··on Export your Hacker News saved links to CSV using only Chrome console
Anyone find a way to do this in Firefox as well? It seems to work; except, it won't save the data in CSV. I'll try to get the raw JSON data...
CDokolas··on Random number generator 'improved'
There are many technical problems with this piece. Is "oversimplification" the cause?

Quotes from Prof Alan Woodward sound strange. Consider the statement "Given enough time, all algorithms can be reverse-engineered" about random number generators. There are no "secret" RNGs in software (except in DIY projects) and they should never get into production software or OSs IMHO.

CDokolas··on In Cryptography, Advances In Program Obfuscation (2014)
So, which statement is right/better?
CDokolas··on In Cryptography, Advances In Program Obfuscation (2014)
Also, why isn't "homomorphic encryption" mentioned at all since that's what this is all about?
CDokolas··on In Cryptography, Advances In Program Obfuscation (2014)
Am I wrong or the phrase "a type of mathematical protocol for convincing someone that something is true without revealing any details of why it is true" is wrong and should be "a type of mathematical protocol for allowing someone to verify that something is true without revealing any details of how it is calculated to be true?"
CDokolas··on Aristotle, “On Trolling”
I like the Greek word comments, they greatly help my understanding of the meanings (I'm Greek; Greek words have more nuance).
CDokolas··on LyX – The Document Processor
I think LyX is a great idea, but I had a couple of problems with it:

1. Support for the Greek language is not good

2. Found it difficult to manage and create my own templates

CDokolas··on The Malware Museum
I have a printout of the disassembly of that virus (in wide format fanfold) from around then. When I come across it I'll donate it to the Hellenic IT Museum...
CDokolas··on Neural Artistic Captions
Very... entertaining! :)
CDokolas··on Self-control saps memory resources
I think "self-control" applies only in the context of the (much disputed) marshmallow experiment. Where adults are involved, some other kind of process should be identified. I'm thinking of this experiment as observation vs some kind of processing, like decision-making, where the input data are secondary to the result.
CDokolas··on Cyber Sleuths Track Hacker to China’s Military
More like "Chinese military cyber-warrior doxed by the WSJ."

Bad guy or good guy, what I worry about is that man's fate... if he hasn't met it already :(

CDokolas··on Why does Gmail hate my domain?
Sounds like re-training Google's spam filter with a few false negatives (by marking them as such). Am I right?
CDokolas··on A Bitcoin Technology Gets Nasdaq Test
Oh, you mean blendle.com
CDokolas··on Scroll Slow. Have Fun
Why do I have to look at it sideways? Couldn't this be done horizontally?
CDokolas··on Scroll Slow. Have Fun
This worked like a charm on Firefox! It is also much better when squinting.
