> With modern CSS, WYSIWYG Web design is simply impossible. Web pages are crafted manually by editing CSS, that is by nature of CSS.
mmm.page[1] would like a word with you!
I would definitely argue the first point here, but not the point about crowding out. You said it yourself, there's totally room for a Cloudflare to win on UX/DX, and other areas like cost. This is the strategy the CEO mentions when he's quoting Christensen, and coming up from the bottom to compete with the big dogs. It's also why AWS will make more in a day than Cloudflare does in a year though, for now..
Outpost may be local zones today (needs fact check), but maybe a better question is what is the minimum service threshold for AWS to deploy a new "global zone". Considering data locality is the topic at-hand, I would surmise it's not that much and that Big Cloud can handily deploy new global zones at the rate that these new regulations crop up.
Totally separate topic -- but my other thought is these laws are totally at odds with the decentralization trend. Not sure how FileCoin, Sia, Storj et al are thinking about this... maybe building the decentralized storage _protocol_ is the escape hatch, but maybe not.
Step 7 here is likely counterintuitive for most - to look big and shredded you typically want to carb-load right before the camera comes out: https://www.bodybuilding.com/content/7-scientific-steps-to-c...
Also nice little easter egg in the developer console :)
Some form of subsurface scattering[1] is a must, and not easily done in games/apps because you can't really "bake" it like you do for most other textures to run performantly.

As far as scans go, it's much cheaper than you would imagine to get high quality face scans. Rigging them for animation is the real challenge, and I'd be really impressed if they were using GANs for rigging.

I like that this is a public web page that can have account-less following. I could see influencer or thought leader types chucking this on their linktree or whatever.
Two pieces of feedback were (1) the sample site was on the slower side to load given its content and (2) it would be good for recent trades to have the trade type (buy/sell). Right now just looks like buy only? Bonus points for more trade types if you want to cater to the wsb crowd.
Netflix limiting mac chrome playback to 720p is case in point if true (though I've never heard this). What % of their "high-end" users is this? My macbook has more than five times as many pixels than 720p... I've never noticed this, and Netflix surely recognizes that they don't stand to gain much by streaming higher resolution to most users.
Netflix, of course, does build for videophiles, but I still hold my conviction to the extent that I constantly question the priority of work to make something 1080p or 4K.
I will certainly concede that VR use cases need higher than 720p resolution.
If I know how an oracle calculates a price for a pair, I can probably alter the oracle's value for it (with a lot of volume from your flash loan), without affecting other exchanges value for it. This lets you create arb opportunities for yourself: https://www.trustnodes.com/2020/02/15/hacker-makes-360000-et...
Here's an explanation I just googled for that includes oracle manipulation: https://hackingdistributed.com/2020/03/11/flash-loans/
Again, there are certainly legit applications of flash loans, the market is still learning. This looks like a legit triangle arb: https://medium.com/@kentmakishima/the-43k-defi-magic-trick-f...
I think these exploiters giving some of the money back to their victims testifies to the shadiness of their tactics: https://www.longhash.com/en/news/3407/Why-Do-DeFi's-%22Flash...
Front running is a whole other beast :)
The reason I say it verges on illicit, is that the most profitable flash-loan trades I've read about usually depend on some form of market manipulation and special knowledge about price oracles. They're not illicit in their own right, and can be a great tool for arbitrageurs I imagine.

That said, naive me would would ask why we can't just fill ballasts with waste water or other dense waste materials on-site?
Energy density over a gravity battery's working lifetime is a different metric than "per-charge", and maybe more relevant for supplying energy back to a grid (compared to, e.g. a home).
I wonder if other measurement tools (e.g. Adobe color picker) are also fooled by the OS in this case.
Other ideas:
- Crypto lending/staking (risky)
- Build blockchain based games (e.g. https://roobet.com/)
- HODL (seriously, a lot of the money made is from buying and waiting)
- Community-building (YT Channel, newsletter, blog, meetups, etc.)
- Arbitrage (success stories are not googleable)
- Flash-loan strategies (this verges on illicit, ymmv)
- Build a fund. If you have a wealthy network that's not techy, there's probably interest.
- Crypto-art (NFTs etc, budding community)
- Mining. This is profitable if you have access to free/cheap power
- Build technology that actually leverages blockchain -- streaming micropayment-based business models, truth estimation via prediction markets, distributed computing (Filecoin/RNDR/Codius/GNT), idea X where crowdsourcing is key to success. I agree that most of this stuff can be built with a centralized model, but that doesn't mean there isn't money to be made going the crypto route. In some cases the crypto aspect might be the interesting thing that builds your top of funnel and makes users actually use it. After all, real crypto enthusiasts are wanting for valid use cases.
Seems like there are only a few companies giving it a real go.
I haven't used it, but if the company is so set on opt-out versus opt-in, maybe it'd be preferable to default to 1st or 2nd degree connections only for location sharing. For the fly-By functionality where it's supposed to be public, it seems a little reckless to disclose name, picture, and location by default. I can also definitely think of other popular apps that do this.
I think they are preparing for that moment already! Saw this job posting for partner payment systems: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/1995030919/
Awesome progress by the way, would totally follow along more closely on this project through an eng diary or mailing list.
There are so many directions you could take it, but generally I suspect it will be hard to offer the "right" amount of customization to end users. It may be easier to find product market fit by focusing in on a smaller niche.
