BubbleRings··on 'Neanderthals Among Us' review
Wait, what? (Didn’t that ruin the joke?
BubbleRings··on 'Neanderthals Among Us' review
Oh I would totally go on the reality TV show My Neanderthal Life if it was me.

Not bad at all!

BubbleRings··on OpenAI GPT–6 Astra breaks Enigma message that has resisted solution since 2005
I want to know more about the “private collection” that the AI accessed. To me that is the scary quote from the article. Sounds like the AI found a resource that it found useful for breaking encryption challenges, and it wants to keep it to itself, maybe. Which sounds like the opening to a dystopian movie.

I think of the extent of human knowledge as a circle or cloud shape, and true expert thinking happens just inside the edge. And creative thinking that leads to knowledge breakthroughs happen when you are thinking in that edge area, but also make a connection way around the circle to some other location. And my guess is there’s absolutely no reason why AI can’t learn to do that too.
BubbleRings··on ZuckOff Is a Free App That Sees Meta Glasses Before They See You
It would be cool to see an individual US State pass a law to say that recording glasses have to have a visible logo on the front indicating recording capabilities.

The following is 100% vibe coded by me, (except for the algorithm that actually makes the music recommendations, which is about 5 lines of code I wrote 30 years ago.)

I created it in two months using Claude Code. It would have taken me three years without it. I would have never done it.

What about this free service is a win for big tech?:

Am I missing something, or are most of the comments here not really addressing the pros and cons and possibilities in OP’s proposal?
BubbleRings··on Don't let anyone take away your big box of cables
You are NEVER going to need that Centronics printer cable again!

(That said, I probably still have two of them in my stuff ha.)

BubbleRings··on Any Human Ever – One life, drawn at random from all who have ever lived
Not bad! Did you ever read Stephen King’s short autobiographical story on how he sold his first few stories? He had to be persistent as could be, just years of writing and submitting to publishers and getting rejected. It is a good read.
BubbleRings··on Any Human Ever – One life, drawn at random from all who have ever lived
Ooh I like that it creates a URL that you can share that points to a particular generated human. Nice feature devs!

I’d guess that education will hardly be recognizable in 10 years. Bad news for number of teachers employed, but AI is going to result in a huge increase in the number of 15-year-olds with a PhD’s level of knowledge and abilities in their heads.
BubbleRings··on Any Human Ever – One life, drawn at random from all who have ever lived
Vibe slop? The structure of the site is quite solid, the UX decisions are spot on, the data looks good to me that knows little about this stuff, and it is entertaining and informative. This was not a one shot, a human out a lot of effort into this.

Yeah it is imperfect and was maybe not ready for the HN front page hug. But I say, bravo to the person or team!

BubbleRings··on Any Human Ever – One life, drawn at random from all who have ever lived
Yes indeed. What do we know about how this was created and how long it took? Before I look into it, I’m going to guess:

One experienced developer with extensive anthropology experience, probably a PhD, working with Claude Code and Claude Cowork, full time over a two month period. Or somebody with limited dev experience over four months.

Anyway, sad that all the first comments were complaints… what a wonderful project!

BubbleRings··on “I just chose words carefully”
I’ve been searching all over for a classic example of this that I first found around 1986, but I can’t locate it. It went on for a page or two, hand justified lines of maybe 40 characters, and then at the end of it he started making each line one character shorter, until the essay ended with these, the only words I remember from it:

dumb is

what I

think

this

end

is

!

If somebody can find it, share it here, I’m going to post it on my own website so it is saved for history. The last time I saw it was 5 or 10 years ago, and there was only one or two copies on the internet at that time, and now there seems to be none.

BubbleRings··on MIT's Ad Hoc Committee on AI Use in Teaching, Learning, and Research Training
I grew up with PC‘s starting with DOS 1.0. I built a career as a systems engineer, basically by being confronted with thousands of problems that took four hours to figure out because the Windows world was changing so fast there was no documentation to easily find your answer. Those same problems now take me five minutes to figure out by using AI, so I’m able to move onto the next challenge and learn the next thing. That’s one aspect that I think isn’t well recognized in the anti-AI mindset.

That fact, multiplied over 1000 different disciplines, is one of the ways that AI is going to bring amazing progress to our world.

BubbleRings··on A Kantian Critique of "Sorry" by Justin Bieber
Funny. Take a simple pop song about apology and make an academic treatise on what a heartfelt apology looks like.

On the other end of the spectrum would be to summarize it in the shortest form with the simplest words, instead of with many and multi-syllable words. How about this (not mine, I’ve heard this in addiction recovery rooms, where apologies and amends are often discussed):

In the sentence “I’m sorry I did x, but you did y”, the word “but” means “disregard the above.”

BubbleRings··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (August 2026)

BubbleRings··on Don't be a meat proxy
Someone very close to me is in their second year as a dev. I hope things don’t turn out as bad as it looks like it might. We are all going to need some luck here.
BubbleRings··on Ask HN: Do you hide your AI behind a curtain?
Just a big downvote storm on any and all comments I made in the thread. I didn't mind, like I said, it put it in the "controversial" category which the algorithm liked.

But it made me think a lot about anti-AI sentiment, hence this post. One poster even said "It sounded cool at first until I saw they're active in the chatgpt sub. Lame ass shit" ha.

Using dBase3 then Clipper, I wrote this music recommending system, back in 1997.

Here it is again, reborn using Claude Code, using modern tech (Cloudflare, D1, Workers/TypeScript, Pages):

BubbleRings··on The Website Specification
Cool. I just dropped the following prompt on the Claude iPhone app and got a nice report out of it:

Look at the part of the website at my first link, that describes how to do an audit using their guidelines, then after that, run such an audit on my website at the second link.
