Brotkrumen··on Kiss your free returns goodbye
Image you treat online shopping like brick and mortar: you want a jacket, you pick 3 or 4 that you like, you go to the changing room, try them on and return the jackets you don't like.
Brotkrumen··on Review of 17α-ethynylestradiol in water across 32 countries: Estrogenic effects
Yes, it does feminize the population. Just the other day I saw this guy being all hysterical about an article. Here:

Brotkrumen··on Open source ‘protestware’ harms Open Source
So you need validation for your virtue signaling? Besides, it's "einen an der Waffel haben". Not the most brainy crowd you virtue signal towards.
Brotkrumen··on Open source ‘protestware’ harms Open Source
You just said "I'm cancelling virtue signalers", you didn't make any arguments I could judge based on their merit. Ergo, you're just whistling for your crowd to cheer you on. Pure virtue signaling.
Brotkrumen··on Open source ‘protestware’ harms Open Source
Is you public signaling that youre cancelling virtue signalers virtue signaling?

"This is virtue signaling" is more of a dog whistle ingratiating yourself with a certain crowd instead of an argument. Don't know what youre trying to achieve besides that.

Brotkrumen··on Open source ‘protestware’ harms Open Source
Criticising the silent majority when they try not to be silent anymore with "youre not taking any risks, so stay silent" is a bad take.
Brotkrumen··on Woman appears cured of HIV after umbilical-cord blood transplant
According to the small pamphlet I got, there's a small benefit to the baby's immune system if the cord isn't cut immediately and some of the blood in there is allowed to pump into the baby.
Brotkrumen··on Facebook loses users for the first time
I had a HTC Vive Pro (2?). I didnt see that feature. Is that a Quest 2 feature?
Brotkrumen··on Facebook loses users for the first time
I rented a VR headset for a month a while ago. I think I bought most of the top games to play around with, but all feel a bit gimmicky and lacking depth.

I'd claim that VR will be niche until it becomes AR. When I can see my keyboard and get multiple floaty screens, that will be productivity. Pokemon Go in AR? Skyrim AR? AR shooters in converted warehouses? Horror games in my house? That'll be games.

Brotkrumen··on Hyrum's Law
Well, that seems to be his website, so he basically is trying to name a law after himself.
Brotkrumen··on Pyston v2.2: faster and open source
I heard about Pyston in the python podcast

Brotkrumen··on GitHub, fuck your name change
We've got a far right party that gets around 13% in national elections, in some states around 25%.

We've got a minister of interior that does not want to start a study on racism in the police forces.

That's two of the big issues, that's not even every-day racism where it's hard to get an apartment or a job with a "foreign name", underrepresentation in leading positions or that in some parts you'll get at least hassled for walking with brown skin.

Germany is and always has been extremely conservative and integration/racism is an issue precisely because the largest party always saw imported skilled labor as people that should be forced back "home" again, even with a second and third generation growing up in Germany.

Brotkrumen··on Linear Exeuction, Multiprocessing, and Multithreading IO-Bound Tasks in Python
>First, terms. Most programs work from top to bottom. The next line runs after the last one finishes. We call these linear

Sequential is the term you're looking for.

Brotkrumen··on Military Has Been Researching "Anti-Gravity" For Nearly 70 Years
this is all fine and dandy, but when do you think will we have anti-grav drives?
Brotkrumen··on Germans Grow Frustrated with Their Slow-Poke Internet
There is no monopoly in the internet industry in Germany.
Brotkrumen··on ‘Deepfakes’ Trigger a Race to Fight Manipulated Photos and Videos
Would signing actually help? People who trust "Tru Woke Media TV" won't change their minds just because TWM TV signs their stuff.

Signed "by Washington Post" to prevent fake videos with fake attribution wouldn't be "just signing videos". That requires a source of trust infrastructure like the CAs and a display infrastructure the your green lock in the browserbar. Otherwise people will just ignore "by Waѕhington Post" and mistake it for "by Washington Post"

Brotkrumen··on Americans' plastic recycling is dumped in landfills
>Schwandorf charges €150 per ton of industrial waste but this can increase to €800 per ton depending on the material.

That's about 3 cent per package if the average package weighs 42g. That's dirt cheap for a pretty clean solution. We suck as a society.

Brotkrumen··on US Customs Database Of Traveler Photos Was Hacked And Stolen
Some of these https://krebsonsecurity.com/tag/experian-breach/ look like Experian is leaking like a sieve, or am I missing something?
Brotkrumen··on Coffee Cups Are Next
If you wanna be a hippie like me, get one of those coffee thermos. Most cafés will fill those up in place of their cups if you ask them. Some even give a discount.
Brotkrumen··on Section 230 created the internet as we know it. Don’t mess with it
Sure. "Small" being of course up until, say, 100 posts a day? So you just need to hire a guy that is current on all legislation and court cases related to copyright in all states so he can determine fair use.

That's probably not a problem since you'd provide him with a comprehensive database containing all copyrighted material ( audio, text, visual, computer code) and an algorithm that detects legal equivalents of these materials in your forum in real time.

Brotkrumen··on Section 230 created the internet as we know it. Don’t mess with it
Participative internet includes more than just personal websites. Small forums, comment sections anywhere, fanfic, fanart, satire, etc., all will have to shut down if they have no way of avoiding legal liability for user generated content. Doesn't even matter if it's fair use, as the legal process is ruinous.

The big walled gardens will have bulk licenses, the small fry and start ups will die because they can't afford those licenses.

Brotkrumen··on Why Should Americans Be Grateful for $137 Insulin? Germans Get It for $55
And once you get older, your private insurance premiums rise, which you may not be able to afford. Public insurers won't let you back in.
Brotkrumen··on Debunking the Capitalist Cowboy
Funny thing is, the author probably is for a meritocracy. He just debunks the myth that we ever had one or that we have one today.

The prime predictor of financial success in life isn't merit or hard work, but still is what it always was: who your parents are.

Brotkrumen··on How Inuit parents teach kids to control their anger
Interesting. I'm debating whether I'll tell my child that Santa doesn't exist from the beginning. Kind of because I don't want to lie for the sake of tradition.

How'd your child deal with their friends believing in Santa and them knowing it's a hoax at that early age?

Brotkrumen··on How Inuit parents teach kids to control their anger
>we do our best never to lie to them.

"Santa sees all, so behave"

"If you misbehave you go to hell"

"Don't sit too close to the TV or you'll go cross-eyed"

"Masturbating makes you go blind"

"Respect your elders because they are more mature/knowledgeable"

Basically we constantly lie to our children.

Brotkrumen··on Ghidra, NSA's reverse-engineering tool
>subsidizing tool development as part of a platform play does not count

So you're excluding deploying/maintaining Open Source Software as a service. That basically excludes how Open Source is supposed to get monetized.

Brotkrumen··on EU Countries Back Copyright Reforms Aimed at Google, Facebook
> This law makes it illegal to use clips of a movie in critiquing it, or cut snippets of images to form a collage, or point to examples of art, film, and music in an educational setting

Not quite. This law makes it prohibitively expensive to host content like that. The effect is the same, but from a PR standpoint its a huge difference.

Brotkrumen··on EU Countries Back Copyright Reforms Aimed at Google, Facebook
ContentID won't be enough, but google has the finances to get a blanked license with most distributors. Anything not from those distributors will be blocked.

That's a feature, not a bug. Perfectly as intended because now Google has to pay for a license from Springer.

Brotkrumen··on “Reverse location” search warrants identify all cellphones near a crime scene
>it sends the data anonymously

It shouldn't send anything at all if Apple was privacy minded. A warrant for all anonymous data from that location combined with a provider data from that cell and the user isn't anonymous anymore.

Brotkrumen··on Netflix Posted Biggest-Ever Profit in 2018 and Paid $0 in Income Taxes
