BrokenCogs··on Show HN: Real-time Solar System with 526k asteroids and all tracked satellites
Seizing the means of production
BrokenCogs··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
Hardly any comparisons to Opus 5.5, which means it's not great
BrokenCogs··on Hister: A private search engine for the pages you visit and the files you keep
Clone the repo and ask your llm of choice to audit any security risks
BrokenCogs··on Show HN: Pelican-bicycle alternatives
Gemini 3.8 flash seems to (subjectively) be the outlier in terms of performance to cost ratio?
BrokenCogs··on ElevenLabs Music v2.5
Hugged to death
BrokenCogs··on No Man's Sky Cosmos
Almost all of the story missions are: 1) walk/drive/ride to this place 2) Talk to NPC 3) Do an extremely boring task (follow someone, drive somewhere, etc) 4) Walk somewhere else 5) Talk to someone else. 6) Collect XP or another reward.

Most of it is not enjoyable gameplay.

BrokenCogs··on No Man's Sky Cosmos
Somewhat of an aside but, personally, I also found GTA V and Red dead redemption 2 to be boring because these games didn't respect my time. I could play for two hours and still feel like I accomplished nothing except for "interacting with the world".
BrokenCogs··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
They're not the first. Each lab has its own: grok bot, codex desktop, perplexity computer, Claude whatever
BrokenCogs··on GPT-6 Astra on OpenRouter
Interesting that all of the bikes are turquoise colored, except for the medium effort
BrokenCogs··on GPT-6 Astra
GPT-6 is so good that all pelicans born after today will look exactly the one generated by simonw
BrokenCogs··on GPT-6 Astra
It's clearly an extension of the previous naming: Luna, terra, sol
BrokenCogs··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
:(

BrokenCogs··on uv: Deduplicate all files in the wheel cache
For a uv noob like me: what do you mean by bundling it all into a single binary? How does that work?
BrokenCogs··on Our decision on Cursor following its acquisition by SpaceX
The chat on the side can use agents too
BrokenCogs··on StemDeck, a free, open-source and local AI stem separator
How many track/stem pairs would we need to train a network to do this? Must be possible now with llms
BrokenCogs··on StemDeck, a free, open-source and local AI stem separator
Is this a vibe coded wrapper? Imo what we really need is a model to separate rhythm guitar from lead guitar
BrokenCogs··on Our decision on Cursor following its acquisition by SpaceX
Vs code copilot is the same or better than cursor in my opinion - I mean that's where cursor comes from
BrokenCogs··on I Just Want to Search
Honestly I haven't found kagi that useful in the last 12 months. I used to be a paying member but then dropped it because the results didn't feel more useful than just asking the free versions of Gemini, claude, etc
BrokenCogs··on OpenRouter is joining Stripe
Going through the openrouter team - turns out I know the CEO from an exchange trip we did several years ago (Oxford/Stanford)! Congrats Alex and team!
BrokenCogs··on Being ambitious and being a dad
Money can solve most of these problems? Send your kid to daycare, hire a nanny or two and then the world will believe you can be a great father and ambitious and successful in your career. They do not see the village taking care of your kid while you are busy with work
BrokenCogs··on Grok Bot
What about hype posting about how you're automating your life so now you have time for MORE WORK?
BrokenCogs··on Spotify just hit 300M Premium subscribers
Spotify is one piece of software (out of many) that, in my experience, has degraded substantially in performance and usability over the last 2 years. It's gone from something I loved using to something I dread
BrokenCogs··on Don't be a meat proxy
Okay, but this doesn't really solve the problem of encountering a meat proxy. Now the proxies will be harder to detect because they are asd-ste lingo.
BrokenCogs··on ICE Collected Nearly 1M People's DNA Last Year–Including Young Children
The movie Gattaca deals with this theme and it has a good plot too!
BrokenCogs··on Show HN: I'm a 15 Year Old Wannabe Engineer, This Is a Cycloidal Gearbox I Built
Yes but not a single software engineer or other engineer in my field has a professional engineer designation. It's not required to practice in most fields outside of civil/structural engineering.
BrokenCogs··on I Inspected My Take-Home Interview Project. It Was a Whole Operation
What are you expecting with a name like anal_reactor?
BrokenCogs··on The unreasonable difficulty of time series forecasting
Not at all unreasonable, why should predicting the future be easy for those of us living in the simulation?
BrokenCogs··on Moonshine: Lets you stream games from your PC to any device running Moonlight
That does sound pretty neat, thanks for sharing
BrokenCogs··on Moonshine: Lets you stream games from your PC to any device running Moonlight
What issues are you having with Sunshine? It works on Linux (Ubuntu desktop) for me out of the box
