Boriel··on Boriel BASIC
No offense taken. I plan to improve the compiler and add other target machines (currently it generates Z80 asm files already). But I refuse to use AI in this side project :( Just to enjoy it for the sake of coding (you know), so some inrovements will take some time…
Boriel··on Boriel BASIC
I’m the author of the compiler. I started it 18yrs ago, well before AI, mainly as a PoC. But people started to ask for more and more features … The compiler tries hard to mimic the original Sinclair BASIC but also allows a more modern syntax similar to QBasic / FreeBASIC.
Boriel··on Ask HN: Do US tech firms realize the backlash growing in Europe?
You can use codeberg.org as an alternative to GitHub. Theirs software is Open Source, so you can even host it yourself.
Boriel··on Ask HN: Is Google deliberately breaking Firefox?
In a word: yes. I'm not going to provide links. There are many already in this page.

I've been always a Firefox user (never switched to Chrome). And everything works fine for me (on both Linux and MacOS). I remember when they disabled on purpose the Google Meet background feature in Firefox (yes, it was working in the beginning). After nearly 2 years they put it back on Firefox. It was never a Firefox bug.

The thing is that by pushing people to use Chrome / Chromium browsers they have more control on us (even was fined 5B for tracking uses in Incognito Mode: https://www.npr.org/2023/12/30/1222268415/google-settles-5-b...)

So yes, even in Private mode, Chrome / Chromium were spying on users without notice, which is unacceptable.

Boriel··on Show HN: ESP32S3 ZXSpectrum
I created a ZX Spectrum BASIC compiler (compiles from BASIC to ZX Spectrum machine code).

You might want to give it a try and run the programs in your device: https://github.com/boriel-basic/zxbasic
