Obviously nobody else there was wearing one so I did feel a bit out of place.
We have many different apps and we have 3 different versions of the UI right now because we're slowly redoing the frontend for all of them as we roll them out over several years.
What a massive waste of money and time. Some of these apps don't even have enough users to warrant the reskin!
He told me "Sure but you'll need to learn all that stuff on your own time". So I never did it because I'm interested in doing other things at home.
If this isn't the best sign of the times, idk what is.
Edit: This one killed me
"VC is hard. This is a great fucking deck..."
I equate people who like really strong IPAs to people who are into extreme hot sauce just for the sake of injuring themselves with something that's overly hot.
Is there really any flavor to IPAs with IBUs that are through the roof? No, not at all.
I'm glad on the east coast I have a variety of beer to choose from that aren't IPAs
As far as I know, everyone else still works there. I bet some of them sleep at their desks trying to keep adding more knots to that awful legacy system.
And it didn't get that way WHILE I was there. That project had been around since 1998. They were so afraid of change that they were still using the C++98 compiler. So I didn't even leave that job with relevant (read modern) C++ knowledge.
Funny thing: The server architect at my current job was one of the founding members on that project. He had the same kind of view towards it. I feel like that project has been in a doom spiral from the beginning. So 21 years at this point.
It blows my mind that there are these legacy code sweat shops out there barely holding software together like this. What a miserable existence.
Big social media companies are now seen as responsible for the destruction and compromise of democracy and have many more problems which wouldn't exist if they weren't so universally adopted.
I hope the future is full of many smaller niche social media sites that cater to a smaller group instead of trying to appeal to everyone.
I've had tinnitus for as long as I remember, and it impacts my enjoyment of music and sometimes my ability to fall asleep.
At least 50% of my last job was writing tests, and the snail's pace of their dev process was the main reason I left.
