BoggleOhYeah··on Carnegie Mellon University Announces Historic $3B Gift from Ken Griffin
Considering that push into Chicago started with Rauner, I’m not surprised.

It was suppose to also include a large campus in the Loop but that floundered for years and was eventually cancelled when UIUC decided to instead be a partner in the new quantum computing center on the south side.

BoggleOhYeah··on Carnegie Mellon University Announces Historic $3B Gift from Ken Griffin
If anything, it could have been in Chicago but Kenny ran to Miami after spending a small fortune trying to install another puppet in the Illinois governor’s office after his previous one, Bruce Rauner, ran the state into the gutter.
BoggleOhYeah··on Most data centers refusing to say how much water, electricity they use
If you don’t cool the water down before putting it back, you’re just creating heat pollution.
BoggleOhYeah··on When oil prices spike, where does the money go?
What was the singular action that led to Hormuz being closed?
BoggleOhYeah··on Seattle City Council votes to ban surveillance pricing in sale of groceries
I don’t know how people stand it when it comes to produce. The people picking the orders aren’t being paid enough to give a shit about the state of your zucchini or whatever so it’s random that you end up with a decent one.

Then again, a lot of people just don’t eat fresh food.

BoggleOhYeah··on Jensen Huang says the junior developer problem ends in two years
They’re all backpedaling hard on all that “AI is going to replace you” hype.
BoggleOhYeah··on What happened to the Snowden archive
I doubt he could have been disappeared after all of the attention. Chelsea Manning wasn’t disappeared despite causing a similar black eye for the US government.

I’d argue he is more physical danger now being in a mafia state near an active war zone.

That said, I wouldn’t come back and subject myself the whims of this administration.

BoggleOhYeah··on What happened to the Snowden archive
It certainly would have kept the leaks in the news cycle for much longer and not delegitimized his motives. It’s anyone’s guess whether that would have had any real effect on policy.
BoggleOhYeah··on What happened to the Snowden archive
It was a mistake to flee the US and a bigger mistake to never return.

He made it real easy for himself to be written off as a Russian asset.

BoggleOhYeah··on GNOME founder and team say DHH is a fascist
The conspiracy isn’t that DHH is a fascist.

He has dehumanized minorities and alluded to using violence against them. I’m not interested in debating whether or not that’s fascist or not. It’s shitty behavior indicative of the modern far right.

The conspiracy theory is that these donations aren’t tech related but are dressed up to be. And that I find plausible given the behaviors of the modern right.

BoggleOhYeah··on GNOME founder and team say DHH is a fascist
Are you under the impression that I am the co-founder of GNOME?

I was speaking to the conspiracy theory here, that the donations to Omarchy are just a passthrough to unsavory organizations.

It’s, at least, plausible to me for two reasons.

1. Omarchy is just a pre-configured Arch install and doesn’t require large donations for maintenance.

2. The donators (Lutke and Dell) are all Trump-adjacent or have expressed authoritarian views in the past. Lutke, for example, advocates stripping poor people of the right to vote and giving the rich more votes.

BoggleOhYeah··on GNOME founder and team say DHH is a fascist
If Lunduke is calling something a conspiracy theory, it probably isn’t. This guy has been playing for a right wing grifting gig but he’s just too unlikable.
BoggleOhYeah··on Trump promises $5k payout to U.S. adults if Republicans win election
This guy loves inflation.
BoggleOhYeah··on DHS 'Predictive Policing' Unit Is Analyzing Americans' Financial Habits
Garry Tan's dream coming true.
BoggleOhYeah··on Dutch central bank moves share of gold from U.S., Canada to London
To drive that home, Alan Keyes got to 27% by

- running against a charismatic Obama

- being a last minute insert when Jack Ryan was caught in a sex scandal (who was already fighting an uphill battle with sharing a last name with the corrupt former governor)

- being a carpetbagger (he didn't live in Illinois at any point until running for senate)

- running as a hard-line social conservative in a state where the GOP is torn between appealing to suburban Chicago fiscal conservatives and downstate Illinois social conservatives

BoggleOhYeah··on Obviously, DOGE Did Not Save Money
It’s really not. This place is full of people that never grew past the simplistic ideas of Ron Paul that they fell in love with twenty years ago.
BoggleOhYeah··on Americans are rallying against data centers. Surprisingly few are getting built
I’m not asking anyone to do anything.

I’m saying the AI industry created their own problems by thinking the general population would eat their shit with a smile like their sycophants do.

For a bunch of people that considered themselves smarter and better than the general populous, they don’t understand people very well.

BoggleOhYeah··on Americans are rallying against data centers. Surprisingly few are getting built
It may have been the AI CEOs bragging that they’re going to take everyone’s job away.

Maybe one day, Silicon Valley will learn that their insufferable arrogance is not a virtue for everyone outside of their bubble.

BoggleOhYeah··on Ten advances in mathematics and theoretical computer science
HN doesn’t like when you ask for those.

Remember, this is the propaganda arm of a VC. Proof is a hindrance to the hype that drives value.

BoggleOhYeah··on US DOT deleting bike lane references
Given the level of involvement the Heritage Foundation has in the current administration, I think you're absolutely wrong.
BoggleOhYeah··on Be skeptical of OpenAI's rogue hacker agent story

BoggleOhYeah··on Most Americans say "not in my backyard" to AI data centers
And the owner class has already trotted out the old Red Scare “If you don’t like datacenters, you’re just doing what China wants” bullshit has a defense.
BoggleOhYeah··on US pauses $1B in Medicaid payments to California, Minnesota
Oh good. The leather-couch Kennedy and TV scam doctor are using AI to find fraud. We're all saved.
BoggleOhYeah··on Lost city discovered beneath Egypt's desert with ancient church
Yeah, that’s just scamming. Unfortunately, that’s pretty common with the camel vendors.

Since camel rides are almost exclusively bought by tourists, it attracts scammers that see the “customers” as easy marks.

The government won’t do anything about it until it starts negatively affecting the money coming into the country via tourism.

BoggleOhYeah··on Lost city discovered beneath Egypt's desert with ancient church
Eh. I concede that there are a ton of scammers in the tourist areas.

However, I think a lot of people used to the manners of the West really struggle with Egypt’s (admittedly, exhausting) haggling culture.

BoggleOhYeah··on Lost city discovered beneath Egypt's desert with ancient church
Yeah. Unfortunately, that’s true of almost any place that is overcrowded to that extent. Their stagnant economy doesn’t help.
BoggleOhYeah··on Men's average testosterone levels have halved in last 50 years
That’s not what the article primarily addresses though and the study itself didn’t control for obesity. They make note of it at the end to say that the obesity cause is in dispute but the bulk of the article is focused on other potential causes.

It’s like we need something more interesting than “people sit too much and eat too much”.

BoggleOhYeah··on Men's average testosterone levels have halved in last 50 years
I don’t understand why obesity seemingly gets tossed aside when this subject comes up.

It’s the one problem you can see in plain sight at any gathering of people.

BoggleOhYeah··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
Direct quote from the leader of the party Daniel is propping up:

"They will also be forced to leave, even if they are born in Sweden, because they have no natural connection to Sweden. They are not Swedish."

Very empathetic indeed.

BoggleOhYeah··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
Does that line of thinking hold when this party has also said they also want to deport people born in Sweden?

>"They will also be forced to leave, even if they are born in Sweden, because they have no natural connection to Sweden. They are not Swedish."
