BluffFace··on Winners of Close-Up Photographer of the Year
I couldn't decide which one is my favorite. All of them are incredible beautiful.
BluffFace··on [dead]
Interesting concept, I read through the landing page and it reminds me of a modernized motley fool. I like the addition of the mobile app as well. I have always had an interest in investing but have not had the time to dive into the market without wasting my account money. I'll definitely be giving it a try, best of luck to you guys!
BluffFace··on An earlier universe can still be observed today, says Roger Penrose
We have a universe that expands and expands, and all mass decays away, and in this crazy theory of mine, that remote future becomes the Big Bang of another aeon.

Crazy indeed, but intriguing.

BluffFace··on Show HN: Virtual Escape Room – Apocalypse No-Code
If you liked "Ready Player One", you will love it! And no spoiler, but the last scene is sublime :D
BluffFace··on Hong Kong: UK makes citizenship offer to residents
The US needs to join the UK and be vocal in support of the Hong Kong people.
BluffFace··on The world could soon run out of space to store oil. Prices may plunge below zero
I like this:

The price is trying to go to a level to force companies to keep the oil in the ground. If it has to go negative to incentivize that behavior, then it will.

BluffFace··on The United States Doesn’t Have a Gun Problem
A balanced reading list which sheds light on both sides of the argument when put together. Would recommend.
BluffFace··on Norweigan oil fund
Perhaps this is why they can afford many government programs that the US simply cannot. Without a prolific income stream comparable to Norwegian oil, the only way to provide more social services is to tax individuals and businesses harder.

Tax any group too heavily and you create brain drain, which hurts in the long run.

BluffFace··on Why urban planners should pay attention to restaurant-review sites
> the researchers found they could predict 95 percent of the variation in daytime population among neighborhoods... 95 percent of the variation in nighttime population, 93 percent of the variation in the number of businesses, and 90 percent of the variation in levels of consumer consumption.

This is impressive and their ML algo is only going to keep improving upon itself. Hope this can be implemented beyond China as these type of predictions with accuracy can be very useful indeed.

BluffFace··on FaceApp isn't stealing your data (as far as we can tell)
Potentially, this means that people wanting to go "off the grid" (or who had already done so) can be identified using old photos.

If you have any old photos of yourself anywhere on the internet, or even in your offline gallery, you will be traceable.

BluffFace··on Cities: Skylines Is Turing Complete
If simulation of an entire universe is possible, there are likely many more simulated universes than there are real ones.

You could say the probability of our universe being a sim is much higher than otherwise.

BluffFace··on Effect of High-Dose Vitamin D3 Supplementation on Colorectal Cancer
You could look into building muscle mass. I would avoid eating junk food and drinking beer until you get a belly, for instance.

A bit of both would probably be okay, though.

BluffFace··on To Break Google’s Monopoly on Search, Make Its Index Public
First, Google doesn't have a monopoly on 'Search'. Competitors provide entirely comparable products and are not that far off from what Google provides. Other industries? Maybe. Search? Not in the slightest.

Second, that is a terrible idea. It would be a fucking crisis if Google's entire index was made public. I don't think the author understands the scope and nature of what Google indexes, as well as the protections Google has implemented.
