Bloedcoins··on Visa Introduces the Visa Tokenized Asset Platform
I mentioned my issues with it.

I mentioned that we can't do cross chain transactions. That for a company like visa it doesn't even make sense to expose transactions publicly, moving trust from your own business to some outside entity (why would visa even want to destroy their own business), all the scams which are happening (which makes it hard to understand what is valid and what not), the fact that smart contracts aren't just solving automagically all problems as they also have to be develloped, validated etc.

Did you adress all my points?

I'm aware of civit.ai but i talk about short clips and i rechecked but didn't find short ai clips which are more than a model moving a little bit.
Bloedcoins··on Hetzner Object Storage
It is for people using hetzner for stuff.

I run minio on hetzner and wouldn't send stuff across some other network to backblaze.

If big businesses uses this somehow fine, but i really hope all the crypto scams and other cryptobro shit dies sooner than later.

If people would even be smarter about it, we would not mix all the shady shit with the other shit together.

Like having some conference about it but not inviting companies who scammed others

Just that you need to aling on one blockchain (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_blockchains). So if i would be VISA or anyone else, i would just create a visachain without any need for distributed, public etc.

And cross chain transaaction is not a solved problem.

Also for financial transactions and things, i do not want them public. Now i need some magic zero knowledge system and a trust anker. Who verifies the trust anker? again a company.

Its not getting easier or frictionless at all just because blockchain and smart contracts.

I also don't see any advantage for a company to let random people run my transactions and paying others instead of just doing it myself.

Also user don't run blockchains. A normal company will just go to another company to do that the same thing as we do today. Do you think a company will just deploy a smart contract and then out of thin air someone else calls it? No another computer system would call it which also needs to run somewhere.

The blockchain is decentralized (as far as you can call it decentralized when a lot of stuff is running on well known cloud providers or you actualyy don't know if someone circumvented the staking mechanism and owns more staking server that you know, imagine a state actor like china) but all the assets are not.

You still need the centralized classical PoS system to make sure that these assets are actually lawfully owned by the right people.

Also for plenty of big companies, a decentralized system is dimetral to their standing. I 'trust' visa.

"For example, a bank could automate processes like administering complex lines of credit using smart contracts and use fiat-backed tokens to release payments when payment terms are met." this even reads like a weird joke. Imagine some expert being needed by a smart contract to evaluate if a flat has the estimated value. The expert needs to verify themselve against a system to even be able to add this trusted expertise onto the blockchain. This requires an additional trust anker because again blockchain doesn't add any trust at all and than nothing is left of the original blockchain besides a standardized way of publishing some information decentral.

You could have done this 20 years ago with public/private keys, certificate authority and ah yeah i think you know how our ca system works right? :P

Edit: "There is a growing ecosystem where tokenized real-world assets are being issued across multiple permissioned and public blockchain networks. " thats even a better joke. Cross blockchain transactions are not a solved problem. Peple lost billions due to this... Apparently who ever does this project in Visa has 0 idea what they are doing. Dead on birth

I have not had the same feeling as you and i do look at ai art for quite. awhile.

Are you still impressed though?

Bloedcoins··on Meta Movie Gen
At least companies are behind it which can actually put the money were its needed and compensate it.

At least microsoft and google are on a co2 neutral race.

And all of these clusters doing something can also do research and partially do.

Its valid critisism, but we need to stop co2 production on a lot of other industries before we do that for datacenters. Datacenters save a lot more co2 (just think about not having to drive to a bank to do bank business).

'still'

We have not had the ability to create interesting ai porn vids yet. How would we? Meta just showed movie gen.

But i'm pretty sure the short images of moving woman very subtle might gotten the one or other of. Just wait a little bit until you can really create wat you are looking for.

From a research point of view, context length got a lot better in the last year and continues to become better.

Chatgpt just released new voice mode.

It took over a year to get GitHub Copilot rolled out in my very big company.

People work left and right to make it better. Every benchmark shows either smaller models or faster models or better models. This will not stop anytime soon.

Flux for Image generatin came out of nowhere and is a lot better with faces and hands and image description than anything before it.

Yes the original jump was crazy but we are running into capacity constrains left and right.

Alone how long it takes for a company to buy enough GPUs, building a platform, workflows, transition capacity into it, etc. takes time.

When i say AI will change our industry, i don't know how long it takes. I guess 5-10 years but it makes it a lot more obvious HOW and the HOW was completly missing before GPT3. I couldn't came up with an good idea how to do something like this at all.

And for hallucinations, there are also plenty of people working left and right. The reasoning of o1 is the first big throw of a big company to start running a model longer. But for running o1 for 10 seconds and longer, you need a lot more resources.

Nvidias chip production is currently a hard limit in our industry. Even getting enough energy into Datacenters is a hard limit right now.

Its clearly not money if you look how much money is thrown at it already.

Its so funny to see these type of things.

Blockchain / crypto was started as a decentralized thing, than gambling happened.

And now it transforms to 'whatever people thought it would be' to 'normal big companies we all know and use are leverging it now in a way to be able to say "But we also do blockchain and crypto" completly destroying the originally idea of it.

But i don't mind. Make the ecosystem even more complicated and complex so that even less people care and use it.

Crypto/Blockchain/NFT was the biggest 'transfer money from a lot of people to a few people' scam for a while now.

Yeah until you realize that a lot of small scale companies do the same thing with avg/bad developers for ages and ... It does work.

IF you don't have a central security team like in big companies or the need for an audit, what you don't know is what you don't care for.

Obviously until its too late but holy shit i have seen too much garbage just working for waaaay to long.

We got a jump start with 'a ton of data' and discovering now that less but better data is actually better.

So yes we will see manual labor to finetune the data lair but this will only be necessary for a certain amount of time. And in parallel we also help by just using it: With the feedback we give these systems.

A feedback loop mechanism is fundamental part of AI ecosystems.

Bloedcoins··on Canvas is a new way to write and code with ChatGPT
You need to ask 'when'.

ChatGPT shows a clear path forward. Feedback loop (consistent improvement), tooling which leverages all of llms powers, writing unit tests automatically and running code (chatgpt can run python already, when will it able to run java and other langauges?)

And its arleady useful today for small things. Copilot is easier and more integrated than googling parameters or looking up documentation.

UIs/IDEs like curser.ai are a lot more integrated.

What you see today is just the beginning of a something, potentially big.

I'm pretty sure https://www.topazlabs.com/ is also making money with the AI revolution.

Also Klarna threw out 700 people, they probably make money with AI.

And i found this article: https://www.ft.com/content/a9a192e3-bfbc-461e-a4f3-112e63d0b...

Its an revolution. Don't undersell this.

There was never ever any technology like LLMs close to what chatgpt and co can do in regards of understanding random human input.

My startup doesn't need to make money with it directly, but for us it increased our data quality on text and images.

I'm also quite happy to pay 10-20$ per month for random things LLMs do quite well for different use cases like creating some scripts etc.

Bloedcoins··on Nvidia releases NVLM 1.0 72B open weight model
I have seen plenty of very good internal AI Demos which we are adding to our products. From GenAI stuff, to image analysis, lightweight agents who answer proper questions.

I used chatgpt 3 days ago to generate a script for me. Saved me probably an hour too.

We use it also in my startup for tasks which we wouldn't even tried without ML models because the quality of old libraries were to bad. Like pdf catalog to text, image classification and segmentation.

Bloedcoins··on New research on anesthesia and microtubules gives new clues about consciousness
I have to think through this take tbh :)

I liked the explanation of kurzgesagt around this topic but it feels weird if our unverse is not random.

Like moving the goal post to 'what would a real random source look like' 'would that source be called god'.

If why means because there is a real randomness: we have free will. If its just because of current complexlity, we don't have free will.

It also implies that we might life this life over and over forever.
